The False Daughter Descends the Mountain to Marry in Another’s Stead, While the True Master Seeks Nightly Divinations
Chapter 31: I Really Regret It

The long period of meditation finally ended.

Yu Ning put away her phone, picked up the tortoiseshell, silently recited her divination question, and began shaking the hexagram sticks.

The black cat sat quietly beside her, not disturbing the focused girl.

Yu Ning had told Lin Hai that her divination skills were average, and she truly believed this herself.

Compared to her senior brothers, her skills were insignificant, and she always worried about embarrassing her master whenever she went out.

However, from the black cat’s perspective, her skills were far from low.

Although he didn’t understand metaphysics, his great-grandmother trusted it and had even consulted some masters.

Frankly, those people didn’t seem as reliable as the girl.

Shaking the hexagram sticks was easy, but interpreting them was difficult.

Yu Ning spent nearly an hour but still couldn’t decipher the hexagram. It was already ten o’clock at night, and she could barely keep her eyes open.

Dealing with vengeful spirits during the day had exhausted her, so she fell asleep holding the black cat.

Once she fell asleep, the black cat struggled out of her arms, jumped to the water basin, dipped its paw in water, and began practicing writing.

“I am Lin Zheng.”

Writing as a cat was not easy; the perspective was hard to align, and the coordination of four limbs was challenging, often messing up the writing.

He practiced repeatedly until he was exhausted, then jumped back onto the bed to lie beside her.

As a principled gentleman, he wouldn’t actively bury his face in the girl’s chest.

A fair hand descended from above, grabbed his neck, and pulled him back to her chest.

It wasn’t his initiative! The black cat struggled slightly, then comfortably lay back down.

Before falling asleep, he reaffirmed to himself that what Old Five said was wrong; he really had no obsession with large breasts, really.

The next day, Lin Hai stood at his eldest brother’s bedroom door with a complicated expression.

He checked his watch.

It was almost noon.

The room was still silent.

The girl had asked for a day to divine, but ended up sleeping till noon.

If the whole house hadn’t been under his watch, he would have suspected she had jumped out of the window and escaped.

As Lin Hai hesitated whether to knock, he finally heard a sound from inside.

Awake at last? Lin Hai raised an eyebrow and knocked on the door.

Yu Ning opened the door, sleepy-eyed, surprising Lin Hai.

Yu Ning, with her hair loose and messy, wearing Piggy pajamas, looked like a teenager.

“Morning.”

“It’s already noon. I’m here to check on my brother.”

Yu Ning stepped aside to let him in, then took the cat into the bathroom. As the door closed, the sound of running water came from inside.

Yu Ning washed up quickly, simply washing her face, brushing her teeth, applying some cream, and tying her hair.

She also wiped the cat’s paws and brushed its teeth, placed it in the litter box, and then emerged from the bathroom.

The noon sun was bright, Lin Hai sat in the sunlight, wiping his brother’s face, then started clipping his nails.

These tasks were usually done by professionals; there was no need for this wealthy third young master to do them.

“What are you thinking?” Lin Hai asked, feeling uneasy under her gaze.

“You must be a good brother.”

Old Five and Old Three seemed to respect him a lot.

Old Five, although gossiping about his elder brother behind his back, was also proud when mentioning him.

“Our mother passed away early, and he raised us alone, sacrificing his own interests for us. We never made things easy for him.”

Realizing he had said too much, Lin Hai cleared his throat.

“How is your divination going?”

“I’ll continue after breakfast.”

“Breakfast? More like lunch, isn’t it?”

“Just a reminder, you have less than nine hours left.”

According to the agreement, she had to give him the result by nine o’clock tonight. She had slept away most of the day, yet still had time for breakfast?

“It won’t take that long. I usually sleep by eight-thirty.”

Since coming to the Lin family, she almost always stayed up late, which wasn’t good for her health.

Lin Hai was momentarily speechless. He had to admit, she was quite relaxed. If this relaxation wasn’t at the expense of his brother’s stock price, he might have appreciated it.

Yu Ning went down for “breakfast” and saw an unwelcoming face at the table.

Jia Qingqing sat there with a hostile expression, ready to mock Yu Ning as soon as she appeared.

“Still in the mood to eat? Lin’s stock price hit the limit down as soon as the market opened today. You’re in big trouble soon, having your last meal, huh?”

“Mm,” Yu Ning stared at the unwelcome guest, lost in thought.

“Afraid now? Don’t think Third Brother is always good-tempered. People have gone bankrupt and jumped off buildings because of him. He’s invested his entire fortune for you and won’t let you off.”

Jia Qingqing had come to witness Lin’s Third Brother destroy Yu Ning. She didn’t believe Yu Ning could turn things around when Lin’s PR department couldn’t.

“Regretting it now?” Jia Qingqing raised her chin.

“A bit.”

“If you kneel and kowtow to me now, I might plead for you with Third Brother!”

“No, I regret not including you in the bet yesterday.”

She had only thought of making Lin Anbang and his wife bark around Sanqing Mountain and had forgotten about Jia Qingqing. Yu Ning was indeed regretful.

“You!” Jia Qingqing was furious and spouted a stream of harsh words.

Yu Ning ignored her, quickly finished her breakfast.

“Wu Ma, please make some boiled beef for the cat and don’t let her up to the third floor.” Yu Ning pointed at Jia Qingqing.

Wu Ma nodded. Jia Qingqing, enraged, shouted at Wu Ma:

“You dog servant! Why are you listening to her?”

“She is the eldest young mistress.” Wu Ma glanced at her contemptuously, as if to say, “You are the real dog.”

Jia Qingqing, enraged, picked up a teacup to smash it on Wu Ma’s head.

Yu Ning kicked the cup away and placed the salad bowl on Jia Qingqing’s head.

Colorful vegetables stuck to Jia Qingqing’s head with white salad dressing, creating an artistic effect.

“Respecting others is respecting yourself.” Yu Ning said, wiping her hands with a hot towel handed by Wu Ma and thanking her.

“You! I’ll see you die a miserable death!” Jia Qingqing screamed, running away with her head covered in salad.

“It’s fine, I’m used to it.” Wu Ma felt a bit guilty, thinking the young mistress had offended the petty Jia Qingqing because of her.

Yu Ning smiled at her and went upstairs.

“The young mistress is really kind. I must burn incense to the fox spirit for her safety.” Wu Ma muttered to herself.

Yu Ning pushed the door open, and Lin Hai quickly turned his back to her. She seemed to have seen Lin Laosan.

She blinked, doubting her eyes.
