Chapter 6 – She Has a Bonded Beast

Behind her came Bingyou’s calm voice.

A small crystal-clear medicine flask suddenly flew in front of her.

Inside was a potion crafted by Bingyou himself.

She glanced at Yi Yao. He walked over and gestured for her to feed it to the Devourer Serpent.

She did as instructed.

“This is Recovery Water, specially made by the Lord of the Tomb. The Revitalizing Grass used in it takes a thousand years to grow just a single stalk. To brew this one bottle, three stalks were consumed,” Yi Yao explained.

If it was so precious, why would Bingyou willingly give it to her to save the serpent? Either he was unimaginably wealthy, or… he was simply kind. She looked back at Bingyou, her eyes carrying a hint of complexity.

But judging by his cold, detached aura, “kindness” hardly seemed to fit him.

“Is your Lord of the Tomb ridiculously rich? Like… obscenely wealthy?” she whispered to Yi Yao.

“Hm?” Yi Yao was stunned. No one had ever asked such a strange question before.

After the Devourer Serpent drank the Recovery Water, the charred parts of its body healed completely, as though it had never been burned. Its shrunken form looked small and almost cute, nothing like the terrifying beast it had been moments ago.

Mu Shuiqi poked its head with her finger. “Hey, are you alive again? Wake up!”

The serpent trembled all over, then took a deep breath and slowly opened its eyes. Its golden pupils rolled around, and its long lashes blinked several times.

“Lord of the Tomb, the Recovery Water truly lives up to its name—its spirit energy has been restored,” Yi Yao reported with a smile.

It was the first time he had ever seen his master use Recovery Water on someone else.

“This Recovery Water is that powerful? Can it bring the dead back to life?” she asked.

Yi Yao shook his head. “No. It can’t resurrect the dead—it only helps restore vitality when gravely injured.”

“So… the serpent wasn’t dead just now?”

“Barely. It was one breath away from death.”

The Devourer Serpent twisted around in the air, sensing the pure energy now coursing through its body.

“My deepest thanks to the great Lord of the Tomb for saving me, and to the young lady for sparing me,” its voice was no longer thunderous like before, but soft and childlike, like that of a young child.

She laughed. “So you’re actually pretty cute when you’re small. Do you still want to eat me? Because now, at your size, I could snap your tail in seconds!”

“N-no, never again. I was blind not to recognize Mount Tai—I offended you, young lady,” the serpent blinked its big round golden eyes.

“You said yourself, since I saved you, you’d work for me like a servant. Remember that,” she reminded casually.

Honestly, she had no need for a servant beast. She was just a college student who only knew how to study. What would she do with a monster?

The Devourer Serpent nodded, then flew before Bingyou.

“Lord of the Tomb, would you like me to become your bonded beast?”

After all, it was truly Bingyou who had saved its life.

Even knowing it wasn’t qualified to serve him, the serpent still asked.

Bingyou didn’t even look at it. Instead, his gaze shifted toward Mu Shuiqi. “I do not need a bonded beast.”

The serpent understood at once. It bowed to Bingyou, then flew over to Mu Shuiqi.

Not knowing its intentions, she quickly hid behind Yi Yao, peeking out warily.

Seeing her frightened look, Yi Yao couldn’t help but tease her. “Why are you scared of it? Didn’t you just say you could snap its tail in seconds?”

“Heh…” She laughed awkwardly, then straightened her back.

The serpent said, “Master, I am about to become your bonded beast. We must perform a small ritual to complete the bond.”

“What?” She didn’t understand a word. “You—”

Before she could finish, the serpent darted forward and bit her forehead.

She froze, unsure what was happening, only to feel a warm energy flowing into her head, spreading into her limbs and through her entire body.

Just as she was about to grab the serpent and smack it, the ritual ended. The serpent released her, circled her three times, then bowed low.

“The ritual is complete. From this moment on, I am your bonded beast. Master, please grant me a name.”

She stood there in shock. Raising a hand to touch her forehead, she found no wound at all.

“Give it a name,” Bingyou said calmly. “From now on, it is your pet beast.”
