Chapter 3
On the way home, Su Xiaowan suddenly heard her husband’s stomach growling loudly.
She turned to glance at Qin Yi and softly asked,
“Honey, did you not have lunch?”
“Mm.”
“Let’s find somewhere to eat first then!”
“No.” Then, in a slightly sour tone, Qin Yi countered,
“Didn’t you already have lunch with your childhood sweetheart?”
“Hey! You know I can’t eat when I’m with other men. I barely touched my food at noon—now I’m starving!”
Then Su Xiaowan pointed toward an upscale restaurant and said,
“Honey, let’s eat there!”
Hearing that, the irritation in Qin Yi’s heart instantly vanished without a trace, though he didn’t show it. Without saying a word, he simply turned the car around at the next intersection.
Seeing this, Su Xiaowan quickly took out her phone and said,
“Honey, I’ll navigate for you!”
“No need, I know the place.”
“My husband is the best! I bet you’ve been to every high-end restaurant and entertainment venue in Tianhai City, huh?” Su Xiaowan said with a sweet smile.
Qin Yi shrugged and shamelessly replied,
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Ten minutes later, the two of them found a quiet spot in the restaurant’s lobby and sat down.
“He just got back yesterday, and you dared to sign a contract with him today?” Qin Yi said while flipping through the land transfer contract in his hands.
“Of course not! The Yi Group had already started negotiations with Yiwan Group while he was still abroad.”
The Yi family and the Su family were both prestigious families in Tianhai City, so Yi Bohao and Su Xiaowan had known each other since childhood.
But after graduating high school, Yi Bohao went overseas to study, so the two of them stopped seeing each other.
“Why didn’t Yi Group approach the Su Group for this deal? By all logic, that land will be worth far more in the future. If they sold it to the Su Group, they could get a higher price than from our company.” Qin Yi frowned, still reading the contract.
Qin Yi knew very well—if he wanted to keep enjoying his “soft rice” lifestyle, he had to make sure his wife’s company didn’t go bankrupt.
The Su Group was her family’s company, and Su Xiaowan once had a shot at inheriting it.
But back then, in order to marry Qin Yi, she willingly withdrew from competing for it.
Later, Qin Yi’s mother-in-law couldn’t bear seeing her daughter struggling outside, so she spent both money and effort to help Su Xiaowan establish her current company, Yiwan Group.
As for Qin Yi himself, in both his past and present life, he came from an ordinary family.
“Honey, don’t worry. It was Mom who helped introduce the deal.”
“Mom?” Qin Yi raised a puzzled eyebrow.
Then he asked,
“What price did your mom pay for this favor?”
Su Xiaowan thought carefully, then shook her head.
“Doesn’t seem like she paid anything. Don’t worry, Mom is the vice president of Su Group.
Maybe Yi Group gave us such a good price out of respect for her.”
Qin Yi snorted coldly,
“Respect? How much is ‘respect’ worth? Did you forget Yi Group only started expanding overseas because their domestic business has been shrinking these past years?
Even if they didn’t sell it to Su Group, just selling it to any other company would get them about five hundred million more!”
As he spoke, Qin Yi raised five fingers in front of her and emphasized,
“Five. Hundred. Million!”
Just then, the waiter arrived with their food, so both of them tacitly stopped talking.
But inside, Su Xiaowan was already thinking over her husband’s words.
She knew very well—despite how lazy, indulgent, and playful her husband acted—
No one in this world wanted Yiwan Group to survive more than he did.
She also knew her husband was actually very capable in certain areas, just that his lazy nature usually buried it.
Once the waiter left, Su Xiaowan finally spoke,
“I secretly investigated that plot of land—there’s nothing wrong with it. And Mom also quietly checked; she didn’t find any problems either.”
Hearing this, Qin Yi rubbed his chin and muttered,
“Could Mom’s reputation really be worth five hundred million?”
Inwardly he thought: If his mother-in-law were the chairwoman of Su Group, then her influence might be worth that much, but right now she was only the vice president.
And his father-in-law never liked fighting for power—he’d always taught at a university and never got involved in Su Group’s operations. If not for his strong-willed mother-in-law, his wife’s side of the family wouldn’t be living so comfortably now.
“Honey, if you really think this is suspicious, I’ll find an excuse to reject signing the contract tomorrow,” Su Xiaowan said reluctantly.
Her tone made it obvious she was unwilling to give up this nearly-in-hand deal, especially since the land could bring huge profits to Yiwan Group in the future.
Qin Yi didn’t respond. He just kept eating while analyzing.
After a long moment, he put down his chopsticks, looked at his wife, and said quietly,
“If there’s really nothing wrong with this land, then there’s only one reason Yi Group would sell it to us so cheaply.”
“What reason?”
“You.”
Su Xiaowan blinked and pointed at herself with her index finger.
“Me?”
“Mm.”
Qin Yi continued,
“Years later, Yi Bohao still couldn’t forget the ‘white moonlight’ in his heart, so he’s willing to sacrifice the Yi Group’s profit just for a chance to pursue—”
Before he could finish, Su Xiaowan waved her hand to cut him off,
“Honey, how can you come up with such a melodramatic plot? It’s a shame you’re not a screenwriter.
With your imagination and creativity, you’re basically tailor-made for that job.”
“I’m being logical here! I heard that Yi Bohao confessed to you back when he graduated high school!” Qin Yi retorted unhappily.
“That was ages ago! And I rejected him right away! I only see him as an ordinary friend.”
Pausing, she added,
“Honey, are you trying to dig up my old history? Fine, then let’s talk about what you did in college—”
Qin Yi immediately cut her off,
“Okay, okay, let’s not. Hurry up and eat, I’m starving!”
Hearing this, Su Xiaowan instantly smiled like a victor.
