Chapter 9
Looking at her husband blatantly lying, Su Xiaowan couldn’t help but think to herself: I’m not bad-looking either, so why can’t I win over this wandering heart of his?
She knew her husband was just indulging his eyes for fun—otherwise, she would have divorced him long ago.
“Too lazy to deal with you!” she muttered, handing Qin Yi a stack of thick files. “Take a look and see what prices are appropriate.”
Qin Yi, feeling resigned, took the files and started reviewing them. No need to guess—these were definitely the records of the plots Yiwang Group purchased in the southern district of Tianhai City last year.
Since Qin Yi had already inquired about the minimum prices that various companies were willing to pay, he quickly adjusted the prices in the files and made notes on which companies would be best to target.
Half an hour later, Su Xiaowan looked at her husband, amazed at how quickly he had revised the prices. She admired him silently.
She would never think her husband was randomly changing prices—these adjustments were certainly based on his careful research.
“Hubby, you’re amazing!” Su Xiaowan said, looking at the revised prices with admiration.
“Wife, I’m not bragging! If you let me go to the club openly, I could do even better than this!”
“Hubby, I see you really know how to climb the ladder opportunistically!”
As she said this, Su Xiaowan was about to stand up and playfully smack Qin Yi when, at that moment, Li Zhiqing knocked on the door and walked in.
“Miss Li, could you make me a cup of tea?” Qin Yi smiled at her.
“Of course, Mr. Qin!”
Afterwards, Li Zhiqing looked at Su Xiaowan and said, “Madam, Mr. Yi Bohao has brought the Yi Group staff to the conference room.”
“Good, I understand. Inform the relevant personnel to prepare the conference room.”
Since Yi Bohao had brought Yi Group to sign the contract, Su Xiaowan wanted everything to follow proper business procedures. The last contract signed at the Red Horse Club was only a letter of intent between the companies, though it still had legal validity.
Soon, Li Zhiqing placed a cup of tea in front of Qin Yi, who began sipping it slowly.
Su Xiaowan stood nearby, silently watching her husband insist on finishing the tea. She sighed indulgently.
About five minutes later, Su Xiaowan and Qin Yi walked into the conference room one after the other.
Since both parties had already discussed the details, all the transfer documents were quickly signed.
With everything concluded, Qin Yi was about to leave the conference room and return to his office when Yi Bohao quickly approached him.
“Mr. Qin, do you have a moment? Let’s go downstairs to the café for a coffee.”
“Sure!” Qin Yi agreed immediately.
Yi Bohao was slightly taken aback—he expected Qin Yi to decline.
“Mr. Qin, I’ll wait for you at the café then.”
Qin Yi nodded lightly. After adjusting his appearance, he slowly made his way to the café, excitement building in his mind.
He was already mentally simulating what was about to happen. After all, in his previous life, he had read plenty of melodramatic web novels, especially those involving clueless “green tea” men and women.
Soon, Qin Yi spotted Yi Bohao in the café and confidently strode toward him.
He had made up his mind: if Yi Bohao dared to throw coffee at him, he would punch him down without hesitation.
“Mr. Qin, you’re here! Please sit. I didn’t order coffee for you because I didn’t know your preference,” Yi Bohao greeted warmly.
Qin Yi inwardly thought: This isn’t right! I was ready for a full-on showdown, so why isn’t he following the novel’s script? Does my past-life experience not apply here?
“I can drink any kind of coffee,” Qin Yi replied as he sat down.
During the brief pause while waiting for the coffee, neither of them spoke. They merely sized each other up. After all, they had only met via video before, and even their brief encounter at the Red Horse Club had been fleeting.
After taking a sip of coffee, Yi Bohao finally spoke: “Mr. Qin, I know it’s a bit abrupt to call you here today, but there are some things I want to discuss with you.”
“Go ahead, I’m all ears.”
Inwardly, Qin Yi was thrilled: He’s finally going to act! I knew all those web novels I read in my past life wouldn’t be for nothing!
“Mr. Qin, I know you and your wife are very close, but a marriage still requires mutual support, right?”
“Yes,” Qin Yi agreed.
Seeing this, Yi Bohao relaxed slightly. He continued, “I’m sure you know Xiaowan broke ties with the Su family to marry you. Don’t you want your wife to return to the Su family?”
“I do want that! But I’m just an ordinary person; there’s nothing I can do.”
Seeing Qin Yi’s willingness, Yi Bohao pressed his advantage: “You can do it! And I’ll help you.”
“Hmm, why are you helping me? I heard that back in high school…”
Before Qin Yi could finish, Yi Bohao interrupted him, saying: “That was a long time ago! I’m sure you’ve heard exaggerated stories from the younger Su family members. You need to know they tell you about Xiaowan’s past just to drive a wedge between you two. Don’t be fooled—they haven’t lost the chance to succeed in Su Group yet.”
He continued, “I admit I confessed to Xiaowan in high school, but that was youthful ignorance. Later, I realized my feelings were purely brotherly.”
Qin Yi was dumbfounded, questioning if he had been letting suspicion cloud his judgment.
“Mr. Yi, I guess I was being too petty,” Qin Yi said, clinking his coffee cup with Yi Bohao’s.
After a sip, Qin Yi asked, “So, how do you plan to help me?”
Yi Bohao, seeing Qin Yi’s interest, replied sincerely: “Honestly, the land in the southern district was worth 400 million more to Su Group than to Yiwang Group. But I persuaded Yi Group’s executives to sell it to Yiwang. Partly because Xiaowan’s mother asked me to help her, and partly because of my longstanding friendship with Xiaowan.”
Qin Yi considered briefly probing Yi Bohao’s views on the southern district’s development plans, but decided against it—he didn’t want to risk alerting anyone.
