Chapter 10
At that moment, Qin Yi deliberately lowered his head and remained silent for a while before asking, “So, how exactly are you planning to help me?”
“First, you focus on doing your job well. Then, I’ll personally help you secure projects to rapidly develop Yiwang Group! That way, the Su family won’t look down on you,” Yi Bohao replied.
Hearing this, Qin Yi immediately chimed in anxiously, “I want high-profit projects!”
Yi Bohao, upon hearing Qin Yi’s response, thought disdainfully to himself: How could Su Xiaowan fall for this guy? Seems all women care about is appearance. I’ve also heard he’s quite smooth with words.
“Mr. Qin, everything needs to be done step by step. And those high-profit projects often carry greater risk. When you encounter such projects, you must think twice before taking action,” Yi Bohao earnestly advised.
Qin Yi had said that on purpose to test whether Yi Bohao had ulterior motives. After listening, Qin Yi’s suspicion was reduced by half.
The other half of his caution came from human nature—he didn’t believe in free lunches. In his previous life, he’d seen countless stories online where even close family members could betray each other for profit; let alone strangers. And his wife in this life was a living example of that.
“Yi, what you’ve said is worth more than ten years of study! I’ll be relying on you from now on. Let’s exchange phone numbers,” Qin Yi said earnestly.
“Sure,” Yi Bohao agreed.
After exchanging numbers, Yi Bohao continued, “Mr. Qin, you don’t need to call me ‘Mr. Yi’ anymore. I’m a few months older than you, so if you don’t mind, you can call me ‘Brother Hao.’”
“Alright, Brother Hao!” Qin Yi replied, and then added, “You can just call me Qin Yi.”
“Sounds good,” Yi Bohao said.
After chatting casually for a bit longer, they reluctantly parted ways at the café entrance.
Watching Yi Bohao’s figure fade into the distance, Qin Yi murmured to himself, “Either Yi Bohao genuinely wants to help me and my wife, or he has some big ulterior motive.”
But in Qin Yi’s mind, he leaned toward the latter.
Back at the company, Qin Yi headed straight to Su Xiaowan’s office.
“Hubby, how did it go?” Su Xiaowan asked as soon as Qin Yi walked in, standing up.
“Ah! It didn’t go as I imagined! I was all set to slap that green tea guy down!” Qin Yi sighed.
Su Xiaowan’s face darkened instantly. She had no idea what went through her husband’s mind all day—green tea men, green tea women, the return of the war god, divine doctors descending, slapping those who look down on others, the chosen one… and on and on. Sometimes she seriously considered taking him to a psychiatrist.
“Hubby, behave! We’re at the company. If the staff hear you talking like that, how am I supposed to maintain authority here?”
Seeing that Su Xiaowan was annoyed, Qin Yi straightened up and carefully recounted his conversation with Yi Bohao.
At the end, he asked, “Wife, do you think Yi Bohao genuinely wants to help me?”
Su Xiaowan’s expression grew serious. “I can’t judge.”
If Yi Bohao knew Qin Yi had immediately told Su Xiaowan their entire conversation, he’d probably wish he could die on the spot.
After a moment of silence, Su Xiaowan looked at Qin Yi. “Hubby, you can continue to act a little naïve with Yi Bohao. Let’s first see if he genuinely wants to help us.”
Hearing this, Qin Yi’s face darkened, and he asked, “Wife, do I usually seem that foolish?”
Su Xiaowan stifled a laugh. “No! How could my husband be foolish?”
Qin Yi rolled his eyes at her and collapsed onto the office sofa, completely giving up.
“Hubby, don’t fall asleep! It’s time for lunch!”
“I know.”
“By the way, tonight we’ll take Nian Nian to have dinner with my parents.”
“And your parents? My parents are coming to Tianhai City tomorrow afternoon!”
“What? How come I didn’t know? How are they getting here?”
“Don’t worry, hubby. I’ve arranged a car to pick them up!”
Qin Yi’s hometown was in a county near Tianhai City—not too far, not too close. By car, it would take over six hours.
Hearing this, Qin Yi covered his face with his hand in despair. “Is this trying to kill me? How am I supposed to sleep in now?”
Qin Yi’s mother, Xu Yijing, would literally go all out to wake him up if he ever slept in.
“Hubby, they’ll only stay in Tianhai City for three days. Just endure it! For these three days, you’ll get up with me—otherwise, you’ll get a beating!” Su Xiaowan comforted him.
“Wife, what if…”
Before Qin Yi could finish, Su Xiaowan cut him off. “Don’t even think about it! I won’t sleep in with you!”
To Qin Yi, as long as his wife didn’t let him sleep in, he didn’t have to worry about his mother waking him up with a feather duster.
“Hubby, it’s just three days. You can endure it.”
Pausing for a moment, Su Xiaowan added, still feeling a little shaken: “Luckily, our daughter doesn’t sleep in like you. Otherwise, I’d be driven crazy by you two.”
“Wife, haven’t you heard? Sleeping is a blessing!”
“You and your twisted logic!”
With that interruption, Qin Yi’s sleepiness vanished completely.
That evening, Qin Yi drove Su Xiaowan and Qin Nian Nian to visit her parents.
“Grandpa! Grandma! I’m here!” Qin Nian Nian shouted excitedly as soon as they entered the villa courtyard.
“Oh my! My precious granddaughter is here!” A middle-aged woman, resembling Su Xiaowan, walked toward Qin Nian Nian gracefully and spoke warmly.
Since Su Xiaowan was their only daughter, her parents doted on Qin Nian Nian wholeheartedly.
Su Xiaowan’s father, Su Shengqiang, was the eldest son of the current chairman of Su Group, and her mother, Qi Manyi, came from the Qi family of Tianhai City.
Although their marriage was a business alliance, there was still a foundation of genuine affection; otherwise, Qi Manyi wouldn’t have fought so hard to protect Su Shengqiang’s interests in Su Group.
Thanks to Qi Manyi’s strength, Su Shengqiang could comfortably teach at the university while maintaining the family’s wealth.
Qi Manyi picked up Qin Nian Nian, glanced at Qin Yi, and said disapprovingly, “You’re always idle. Can’t you bring Nian Nian here to visit your parents every now and then?”
“Mom, you’re mistaken! I’ve been busy! Ask Nian Nian if you don’t believe me.”
Qin Nian Nian immediately said, “Grandma, my dad really has been busy!”
Though she said it, she thought to herself: Dad’s been busy sleeping! Ugh, at my young age, I’ve already learned to lie to protect Dad from Grandma’s scolding. I feel a bit guilty though!
