Chapter 21 Master
In the ancestral hall, A Niang’s memorial tablet was wiped clean every day, looking as neat as new.
Chu Xuyun couldn’t remember how many years it had been since he last saw A Niang. The image of his mother had gradually blurred in his memory, but he remembered her gentle voice, teaching him to read and understand the ways of the world.
He respectfully knelt before the memorial tablet, bowing slowly.
“A Niang, this is Yu Xiao. He’s a good person, and Ah Die likes him a lot. You can rest assured.”
Following Chu Xuyun’s example, Yu Xiao knelt beside him on the cushion and earnestly bowed to the memorial tablet.
“Auntie, rest assured, I will cherish Ah Xu more than anyone else in the world.”
Upon hearing this, Chu Xuyun looked up in surprise.
Yu Xiao knowingly asked, “What’s wrong, Ah Xu?”
Chu Xuyun felt a bit uncomfortable with him calling him that way. His ears tinged slightly red, and he casually looked away.
Pretend you didn’t hear that.
Yu Xiao chuckled lightly, helped Chu Xuyun up, and whispered, “I used to think only Ji Lianzhou would call you Ah Xu like this. Today I learned it’s your nickname.”
Chu Xuyun still pretended not to hear.
It’s so convenient to be silent. You can just not answer and feel justified.
“But compared to that, I prefer calling you Madam.”
Anyone can call him Ah Xu, but only he can call him Madam.
Chu Xuyun understood the implication behind his words, his face blushing even more.
Don’t say such things in front of A Niang, she would definitely laugh at him.
He quickly pulled Yu Xiao away from the ancestral hall. Before leaving, he glanced back at the hall, feeling something, only to see a butterfly fluttering gracefully and quietly landing on Ah Niang’s memorial tablet as if bidding them farewell.
Chu Xuyun silently decided that no matter how busy he was in the future, he would often bring Yu Xiao home to visit his parents.
Back in the Demon Domain, Yu Xiao began preparing for his marriage.
The three-day period had passed, and tomorrow was the auspicious day. The entire Demon Palace was bustling with preparations.
Yu Xiao had prepared sixteen sets of wedding attire for Chu Xuyun to choose from. The patterns and designs on them were more intricate and beautiful than anything Chu Xuyun had imagined before.
Chu Xuyun was dazzled for a moment. He couldn’t decide which outfit looked better. He thought if only he could wear all sixteen wedding outfits at once.
As they were discussing whether the embroidery on the wedding attire should feature begonias or lotuses, a demon disciple rushed into the hall and whispered something in Yu Xiao’s ear.
Soon after, Chu Xuyun noticed Yu Xiao’s slightly solemn expression. Yu Xiao hurriedly whispered, “Xianjun, take your time choosing.” Then he followed the demon disciple out.
Perhaps there was some urgent matter, but Chu Xuyun didn’t worry about it and continued admiring his wedding attire.
Meanwhile, Yu Xiao’s eyes turned cold as he walked slowly into the bedroom, sparks flying as his sword scraped the rough ground.
Inside the bedroom, a person trapped by a formation struggled. Upon seeing Yu Xiao, the person became even more agitated. “Yu Xiao, where is my master?”
Indeed, he had caught a big fish.
Yu Xiao remained calm, sitting casually at the table. He poured himself a cup of tea. “You know I’m marrying Xuyun tomorrow. Are you here for the wedding banquet?”
Upon hearing this, Li Yanhe’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What did you call him?”
“Xuyun,” Yu Xiao repeated calmly. After a pause, he added in a low voice, “Or perhaps, Madam.”
Li Yanhe immediately lost his temper. “How dare you call him that?”
Yu Xiao lightly sipped his tea, unconcerned. “Whether I deserve it or not, we are getting married. By the way, I just met Xuyun’s father, and even Uncle agrees.”
“You’re lying…” Li Yanhe couldn’t believe it, feeling a chill in his heart. “You must have threatened my master’s father. Yu Xiao, you’re so heartless, not sparing even my master’s father!”
Yu Xiao sighed softly. “So be it, if you don’t believe me.”
“If my master really wants to marry someone, that person must be a thousand times better than you. At least that person wouldn’t be as full of demonic energy as you!” Li Yanhe couldn’t contain his anger anymore. Sword energy surged from him like never before, as if he had suddenly found a breakthrough, his sword aura different from before. “You’ve already made him lose everything, his reputation shattered. Isn’t that enough?”
“The reason he has endured so far is because he fears that angering you would lead to a massacre of mortals. But I’m not afraid. If you kill me, maybe it will wake my master up — realizing you’re nothing but an untamable wolf!”
Yu Xiao silently watched him for a while, then lowered his gaze slightly. He casually twisted the ring on his finger and said softly, “Is the person in the painting you?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Li Yanhe almost choked on his breath. “What are you saying?”
Yu Xiao slowly raised his eyes. “I asked if the person in the painting Xianjun treasures is you?”
Li Yanhe couldn’t decipher the meaning behind his words, feeling that Yu Xiao’s expression was strange, as if saying the wrong thing would immediately lead to his death.
What painting does Xianjun treasure? How did Yu Xiao know about it? There must be something crucial about it, something related to the safety of Xianjun, and Li Yanhe needed to be cautious.
After a moment of thought, Li Yanhe gave up thinking.
Forget it, whatever happens, happens.
“It’s me, so what? My master indeed appreciates my handsome appearance…” He had only said half of it when Yu Xiao kicked him to the ground with one foot. With the other hand, Yu Xiao tightly grasped Li Yanhe’s throat, almost intending to strangle him to death. “I knew it was you.”
“What’s wrong with him?”
Li Yanhe was completely unprepared for Yu Xiao’s sudden attack.
It wasn’t until his face turned purple and blue that Yu Xiao suddenly, in a merciful manner, released him. He smiled faintly. “I suddenly thought, if I let you die like this, Xianjun would probably miss you for the rest of his life. What do you think?”
Li Yanhe coughed violently, struggling to speak. He looked up at Yu Xiao with difficulty, gritting his teeth. “Even if I don’t die, my master will still miss me…”
After he finished speaking, he received another kick from Yu Xiao. Li Yanhe was completely unable to speak, his face twisted in pain, his internal organs seemed to have shifted.
So ruthless!
Might as well just kill him directly!
Yu Xiao chuckled and looked outside the hall. “Xianjun just went to see the fabric for the wedding attire. He’ll be back soon.”
Li Yanhe stared at him angrily, unsure of what Yu Xiao was planning to do.
But the next moment, Yu Xiao suddenly grabbed Li Yanhe’s hand and stabbed his own right shoulder with the long sword.
Blood splattered on his face, hot and scalding. Li Yanhe wiped his face in disbelief. “Are you crazy?”
If he wasn’t ill, why would he suddenly self-harm like this?
Yu Xiao held his wound, his face pale. He whispered, “Li Yanhe, do you really want to push me to my limit?”
Behind him, there was a sudden muffled sound of something falling.
Li Yanhe turned his head in confusion, only to see Chu Xuyun staring blankly at them.
In an instant, Li Yanhe understood everything.
This person did it on purpose!
Isn’t there any justice left? He had just been beaten up!
“Master, I didn’t touch him at all!”
No, why should he explain to his master? It seemed like he was here to kill Yu Xiao.
Forget it, no matter what, explain first.
Chu Xuyun dropped everything in his hands and quickly walked to them, trembling as he gently supported Yu Xiao.
Yu Xiao leaned weakly against Chu Xuyun’s side, coughing up blood from his throat, splattering onto Chu Xuyun’s palm.
“Xianjun, actually… I just love you too much and want to marry you. What did I do wrong?”
Chu Xuyun quickly embraced him, then turned to look at Li Yanhe. Li Yanhe’s expression was extremely shocked, as if he had seen something incredible.
“Master, he wasn’t like this just now!”
Just now, this person clearly kicked and stomped on him, almost choking him to death!
Chu Xuyun took a deep breath, his brows furrowed in obvious anger.
“Master, he slandered me,” Li Yanhe explained incoherently, “he just hit me earlier, and then suddenly grabbed my hand and used a sword to stab himself.”
Even if he really came to kill Yu Xiao, no one could tolerate being unfairly blamed like this.
Hearing his words, Chu Xuyun’s gaze fell on Li Yanhe’s face.
He knew the character of each of his disciples well. Li Yanhe was not a liar; every time he lied, his demeanor was unnatural. It couldn’t be that now he wore an expression of ‘if you accuse me again, I’ll die’.
But…
Did Yu Xiao really hurt himself with a sword?
What if it wasn’t true? Wouldn’t Yu Xiao be wronged? What if it was true? Wouldn’t Li Yanhe be wronged?
Just as Chu Xuyun was furrowing his brow in worry, Yu Xiao in his arms trembled and spoke in a trembling voice, “Immortal Lord, don’t blame him. I know you have feelings for him, maybe it was my fault from the beginning.”
Chu Xuyun widened his eyes slightly and covered Yu Xiao’s mouth.
What nonsense is he talking about?
Where in the world would a master have feelings for his disciple?
He taught Li Yanhe many Taoist arts, and their relationship was limited to that. Apart from that, Li Yanhe could be considered one of Chu Xuyun’s few friends.
Li Yanhe couldn’t help but say, “Master has feelings for me, isn’t that obvious? I am the first disciple, do you understand?”
Chu Xuyun raised his hand and tapped his head, signaling him to shut up and stop talking nonsense.
He had taught Li Yanhe so many Taoist arts, how could he forget to teach him the art of silence?
Hearing his words, Yu Xiao’s face grew even darker. He pulled Chu Xuyun’s hand away and continued, “I understand perfectly. You came today to save Immortal Lord, isn’t it to marry him? Immortal Lord, if you insist on leaving, go with him. You can live together and don’t worry about me.”
Chu Xuyun: …
In an instant, Chu Xuyun inexplicably understood what Yu Xiao wanted to do.
He first stopped Yu Xiao’s bleeding wound, then looked up at Li Yanhe and snatched the sword from Li Yanhe’s hand.
“Master…” Li Yanhe looked at him in astonishment, his voice gradually tinged with despair, “I really didn’t kill him, I just thought about it, but I didn’t get to do it.”
Chu Xuyun’s face turned extremely serious, the tip of the sword pointed at Li Yanhe, then towards the door of the hall.
His meaning couldn’t be clearer; even if he didn’t need the stone pen in his arms this time, Li Yanhe could understand.
Master was telling him to get lost.
Li Yanhe felt extremely wronged, tears streaming down his face as he crawled up from the ground, not caring about the dust on his body, and followed Chu Xuyun out of the hall in despair.
As he stepped over the threshold, Li Yanhe still unwillingly tried to explain to Chu Xuyun, but saw Chu Xuyun sheathing the sword and taking out a Returning Yuan Pill from his arms, handing it to Li Yanhe.
He then reached out and gently patted his shoulder for comfort.
Li Yanhe was stunned for a moment, tears falling involuntarily. He subconsciously wanted to rush forward and hug Chu Xuyun, but Chu Xuyun had already guarded against it by pressing his head down.
He couldn’t let Yu Xiao see it again; last time it was because Li Yanhe hugged him that Yu Xiao misunderstood.
In fact, Chu Xuyun knew that Li Yanhe didn’t really harm Yu Xiao. He believed that anyone who saw Li Yanhe’s current aggrieved appearance could probably guess one or two things.
Yu Xiao must be angry because Li Yanhe always wanted to kill him and had no choice but to come up with this strategy to keep Li Yanhe from ever coming to the Demon Palace again.
Chu Xuyun spread out his palm, Li Yanhe wiped away his tears, and touched his chest, feeling a broken stone pen.
Chu Xuyun took the stone pen, and wrote slowly on the ground,
“Go back, don’t come again. The Sect’s Grand Competition is approaching, so practice diligently and don’t neglect it.”
The writing was too much, and Chu Xuyun struggled to write for a long time.
Li Yanhe read each word one by one, wiped away his tears, and hoarsely asked, “Master, do you really want to marry Yu Xiao?”
He really didn’t care about the Sect’s Grand Competition now.
If it wasn’t for Yu Xiao catching him in the first place, Master wouldn’t have agreed to Yu Xiao’s threat, let alone marry Yu Xiao.
It’s all his fault.
Chu Xuyun looked at him, nodded heavily, hoping that Li Yanhe could understand the determination in his eyes and believe that he was sincere.
Seeing him nod, Li Yanhe felt as if the sky were falling.
“Then will I have to call Yu Xiao Master’s wife in the future? Master, you better run away, your disciple is begging you.”
Chu Xuyun coughed dryly; he really hadn’t thought about this, but running away was no longer an option.
Let the foolish disciple endure a little longer; having more elders around wouldn’t be a bad thing. As the saying goes, having an elder at home is like having a treasure, and Li Yanhe is lucky to have two treasures.
