“Your Adam’s apple is moving, are you drooling over me?”
Her fingertip lightly grazed over the man’s Adam’s apple, sending a tingling sensation through his skin that shot straight to his heart.
“Just kidding, but I do find you attractive. Although it might sound absurd to you, I fell in love with you at first sight. So, can we exchange WeChat?”
As she stepped back, and the soft warmth was about to leave, Zhou Jiayu’s body unconsciously wanted to reach out and wrap her slender waist.
If only he hadn’t heard her call the wrong name.
“Lu Fanghuai, this is my WeChat. Add me as a friend.”
Lu Fanghuai…
Zhou Jiayu was more than familiar with that name—it belonged to his best friend since childhood…
He looked at the sweet and tender beauty in front of him.
Shen Zhirou was still holding up her phone, sincerely looking at him with the desire to get to know him, completely unaware that she had flirted with the wrong person.
–
Time rewinds to the previous night.
When Shen Zhirou came home from work, she saw her roommate, Xu Jia, sitting on the living room sofa, angrily talking on the phone.
Xu Jia: “Then just break up already! It’s not like you cheated. If you don’t want to break up, then you’re just being pathetic. Just accept that your girlfriend betrayed you. You’re really annoying, you know? She’s not the only woman in the world. Why are you acting like this is the end of the world? I’m so fed up with you.”
Xu Jia: “Don’t send that to me. I’m not interested in your girlfriend. If you want to ask someone, ask yourself!”
Xu Jia: “Maybe she’s tired of you after being together for so long. Obviously, you’re lacking something that guy has, which is why she dumped you. What’s there to cry about? If you have the guts, just find someone new to piss her off!”
“Where am I supposed to find a girl to piss her off? This is so frustrating. With your love-obsessed brain, do you think anyone would believe you already have a new girlfriend? I don’t care about your crap anymore. I’m hanging up!”
Seeing Shen Zhirou return, Xu Jia quickly ended the call and switched her phone to silent mode.
“You’re back. Dinner is on the table,” Xu Jia pointed to the dining table.
Shen Zhirou looked at the beer can in Xu Jia’s hand, “You’ve been drinking?”
Seeing Xu Jia’s flushed cheeks from the alcohol, she walked closer and noticed several empty cans on the coffee table, all crushed and deformed.
“Drink less,” she advised gently, then went to the small kitchen to wash her hands before serving herself some rice and sitting at the dining table to eat.
“It’s fine, I can take a three-day break,” Xu Jia said lazily from the sofa, watching Shen Zhirou eat. “I didn’t plan on drinking, but my brother drove me crazy.”
“What happened to him?” Shen Zhirou asked casually.
Xu Jia, who worked in research, was strict with herself and avoided alcohol unless it was a day off, fearing it might interfere with her work. It was clear Xu Jia was really upset.
Shen Zhirou recalled the last time Xu Jia complained about her brother, who kept bothering her about his relationship—asking what to wear on dates, whether to use hand cream before holding hands, or what mouthwash to use before kissing his girlfriend.
Xu Jia had blocked him, finding him overly obsessed with his love life.
It had been a few months since she heard about his relationship. Were they breaking up now?
Shen Zhirou watched as Xu Jia downed another can of beer, crushing it violently.
“He caught his girlfriend cheating.”
“What?”
“It’s ridiculous. He acts like it’s the end of the world because he got cheated on. I told him if he’s so angry, he should find another girl. He asked me where to find one and worried his ex would be mad. I told him he deserves it for being such a doormat!”
Shen Zhirou laughed, “Is it really okay to call your own brother a doormat?”
“He is! He saw her cheating with his own eyes. What’s left to hold on to? I don’t get what’s so special about that girl.”
“You haven’t seen what she looks like?”
“No, I blocked him on WeChat and his posts. I told him not to contact me unless it was life or death. It’s been peaceful since then. He only calls when it’s really important.”
Xu Jia got up to get another can of beer from the fridge and sat down in front of Shen Zhirou. “No matter how pretty she is, she’s not as beautiful as you. Among the people I know, you’re the most beautiful.”
Xu Jia truly thought Shen Zhirou was stunning—pure yet alluring, and gentle.
“My brother doesn’t deserve you. Otherwise, I’d want you to be his girlfriend just to piss off his ex. But just by standing next to him, no one would believe you like him.”
Xu Jia rested her chin on her hand, admiring Shen Zhirou’s beauty. “But my brother would definitely treat his girlfriend well. That girl dumped him despite his devotion, which is infuriating. I want her to get a taste of her own medicine.”
Xu Jia sighed deeply.
Shen Zhirou smiled, “What kind of lesson? Do you want your brother to make her experience being dumped too?”
“Why not? Seduce her new boyfriend and make him dump her, so she knows what it feels like to be cheated on. That would teach her a lesson and give my brother some payback!” Xu Jia, a bit tipsy, didn’t realize she was about to make an outrageous request.
“Rourou, if you go, you could easily win over that guy and help my brother get his revenge.”
“Me?” Shen Zhirou hesitated, seeing the pleading look in Xu Jia’s eyes.
