Chapter 114: Speaking Out for Justice

Luo Qiao remained silent, taking out her homemade ointment from her backpack. She looked at Xiao Shitou and asked, “Xiao Shitou, do you trust Sister Luo Qiao?”

Xiao Shitou vigorously nodded, “I trust you.”

Luo Qiao whispered, “I made some ointment for burns. Let me apply it for you. Just keep it to yourself and don’t tell anyone else, okay?”

Xiao Shitou turned to look at Luo Qiao, “Maybe it’s better not to apply it. If someone finds out, it might cause trouble for you, Sister.”

Luo Qiao opened the canned bottle and took out the tools she had prepared at home. “This ointment will be absorbed by your skin quickly without leaving any traces,” she explained.

Xiao Shitou agreed, “Alright, as long as it doesn’t cause trouble for you, Sister.”

Luo Qiao carefully applied the ointment to Xiao Shitou’s back, but then she began to worry about how to treat the burns on his buttocks and thighs. Xiao Shitou was already eight years old, and Luo Qiao felt embarrassed about having to pull down his pants.

Just as she was pondering this, someone walked in through the door and said, “Let me take care of the rest.”

Xiao Shitou turned to the voice and looked over. “Uncle Lu.”

Lu Yichen heard himself being called uncle and felt a bit awkward. He had just heard Xiao Shitou calling Luo Qiao “sister,” but now he was being called uncle. In an instant, there seemed to be a generational gap between him and Luo Qiao.

But it wasn’t wrong for Xiao Shitou to call him uncle.

Luo Qiao stood up and made space for him. “Brother Lu, why are you here too?”

Lu Yichen said, “Seeing you leave the village, I couldn’t help worrying, so I followed to take a look. Your courage is growing; going to the commune alone in the middle of the night, you’re not afraid of any dangers on the way.”

His words were not easy to hear, but Luo Qiao could tell he was concerned about her.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Luo Qiao replied, “I was just worried about Xiao Shitou. Luckily I came. The Sun family is really too much. Not only did no one stay with him at night, but they didn’t even come to bring him dinner.”

After Luo Qiao finished speaking, Lu Yichen looked up at her and asked, “Are you going to stand here and watch me pull down Xiao Shitou’s pants?”

Upon hearing Lu Yichen’s words, Luo Qiao snorted and turned to leave the room.

Looking at the pale green ointment in the glass bottle, Lu Yichen thought to himself, “This kid really has some skills. Can’t underestimate her.”

Carefully, he helped Xiao Shitou take off his pants and evenly applied the ointment on his buttocks and thighs. “Xiao Shitou, I won’t pull your pants up for now. Otherwise, the ointment will get on your pants. Wait for about two hours for the medicine to absorb before putting them on again. Understand?”

Xiao Shitou felt a bit embarrassed. “What if someone comes in?”

Lu Yichen replied, “It’s almost ten o’clock now. Everyone at the clinic is asleep. No one will come in. Besides, what’s there to be shy about?”

Luo Qiao hesitated to go inside further. After Lu Yichen gave some instructions and saw that the porridge in the bamboo tube was finished, he put away the bamboo tube and said, “Let’s go for now. We’ll come back to see you tomorrow.”

Xiao Shitou replied, “Okay, be careful.”

Luo Qiao asked Lu Yichen to leave the two buns from her backpack for Xiao Shitou to keep.

Speaking softly at the doorway, Luo Qiao said, “Xiao Shitou, try to get some sleep now. There are many people living in this yard. Don’t be scared. Sister will come to see you again tomorrow.”

As the two left the clinic and turned onto the road back to the village from the commune, Lu Yichen said, “Try not to do this again in the future. If something goes wrong with this medicine, you’ll only be causing trouble for yourself, you know?”

Luo Qiao made a playful gesture and replied, “Got it.”
