Chapter 115: The Quail on the Back

As she stood up, ready to walk, Lu Yichen said, “Don’t force yourself. There’s still a bit of a way to go. Let me carry you back to avoid making it worse.”

Luo Qiao replied, “It’s not far now. I should be fine.”

Luo Qiao felt embarrassed to let Lu Yichen carry her, especially since he already had injuries on his legs. Wouldn’t that be taking advantage of him?

Seeing her hesitation, Lu Yichen said somewhat impatiently, “Stop dawdling. Hurry up.” He added, “Don’t treat me like a disabled person who can’t carry you.”

Not wanting to hurt his pride, Luo Qiao climbed onto his back. During this time, she had been eating well and gained some weight; now she was almost ninety kilograms.

Luo Qiao remained silent as they walked. Lu Yichen said, “Let it go this time. In the future, don’t act so recklessly. Remember that.”

She softly replied with an ‘okay’ and remained quiet.

Lu Yichen carried her all the way to the courtyard gate before saying, “You open the door first. I’ll go get some medicine for you.”

Luo Qiao stood on one foot, opened the gate, and tested her injured foot. It hurt a bit, but she managed to walk forward. Lu Yichen quickly approached and said, “Let me fetch some well water for you first. Soak your injured foot in it. We don’t have ice now, so this will have to do for now. Also, use this medicine tomorrow depending on how you feel.”

Without waiting for Luo Qiao to respond, Lu Yichen handed her the medicine and helped her sit on a wooden stool in the courtyard.

He then brought a bucket of water from the back and asked where the basin was for washing feet, before bringing it over to her side.

Then he thought of something and said, “I’ll leave now. After you finish soaking, tidy up tomorrow. I’ll lock the courtyard gate from the inside, so don’t try to walk over there again.”

Luo Qiao replied, “Thank you.”

She watched as Lu Yichen locked the gate from the inside and then climbed over the courtyard wall. She thought to herself how agile he was despite his injured legs, marveling at how capable he must be when he’s well.

Back in his own courtyard, Lu Yichen felt a bit amused at himself for being so reckless. He shook his head, went inside, and tried to go back to sleep, but he tossed and turned and couldn’t fall asleep.

Thinking about how Luo Qiao acted like a quail when he carried her back, he couldn’t help but chuckle to himself. After all, she was still just a child.
