Chapter 119: Speculation

Luo Qiao glanced around and whispered, “Aren’t they afraid this incident will affect their own children’s future? Aren’t they worried that in the future, no one will want to work with anyone from the Sun family?”

Qiao Lanlan sighed after hearing Luo Qiao’s words, “The Sun family is indeed going too far, but we can’t do anything about this matter. Look, even this morning the captain spoke up, but they still couldn’t resolve anything.”

While saying this, she didn’t neglect her work. She continued, “Those daughters-in-law of the Sun family are also calculating. Just watch, this issue with Shitou isn’t going to end soon. It’s just unfortunate for that child.”

At noon, when work ended, Luo Qiao returned home and thought that making noodles was definitely out of the question; otherwise, they would be ruined by the time they got to the health center.

So, she quickly prepared steamed rice, cooked some meat and vegetables, and made a cold dish. This way, even if it was a bit late when delivered, it wouldn’t affect the taste of the food.

When Lu Yichen arrived, Luo Qiao had just finished cooking: “Brother Lu, you’ve come back just in time. Sit down quickly, dinner is ready.”

Lu Yichen looked at the rice served and asked Luo Qiao, “Where did you get this rice from?”

Luo Qiao hesitated for a moment, realizing her mistake, and quickly made up an excuse, “Last time when I went to the city, a neighbor from the farm gave me a bit. There wasn’t much left, and I was worried that the noodles would get ruined if I took them to the clinic, so I made rice instead.”

Lu Yichen replied, “You shouldn’t have wasted it all. I’ll eat whatever you make, but this is wasteful.”

Luo Qiao smiled, “It’s okay, since I made it, let’s eat. Later, I’ll make some steamed buns for you tonight.”

Seeing the smile on the girl’s face, Lu Yichen didn’t say anything more. He thought to himself that he would find someone to exchange some rice to repay her.

Before coming over, Lu Yichen had washed his hands at home and also brought two food containers with him.

Luo Qiao said, “You’re thoughtful. I don’t have any food containers here. You go ahead and eat first. I’ll go pack up Shitou’s meal.”

When Luo Qiao returned, Lu Yichen hadn’t touched his chopsticks yet. She wrapped the two food containers in a cloth bag and set them aside. “Brother Lu, please eat quickly. Otherwise, Shitou’s food will get cold.”

Lu Yichen thought to himself that this girl had no conscience. He had waited for her to eat together, but she was only concerned about Shitou.

Picking up his chopsticks, Lu Yichen said, “You sit down and eat too. Is your foot okay today? If not, take a rest for a couple of days. Don’t take it lightly.”

Luo Qiao smiled, “It’s fine. I didn’t go to the fields this morning. I was grinding fertilizer in the storage room. Sitting down won’t hurt.”

Lu Yichen picked up his bowl. “These days, I work in the storage room, and I have some gloves there. I’ll bring a few pairs for you later. Handling fertilizer can be tough on the hands.”

Luo Qiao said, “No need, Aunt Qiao said she’ll bring them in the afternoon. Hurry and eat, don’t let it affect your work in the afternoon. If you have time, rest a while at Shitou’s place before going back to work.”

Lu Yichen replied as he ate, “Alright, I’ll deliver the food to Shitou and take a break there. I’ll bring back the food containers tonight.”

Luo Qiao nodded, “Thank you for that.”

Lu Yichen glanced at Luo Qiao and asked, “Why are you going to such lengths to help Shitou?”

With a mouthful of food, Luo Qiao replied, “Shitou helped me before, so now it’s my turn to help him. Don’t you think we’re both in similar situations?” She chuckled self-deprecatingly after speaking.

Lu Yichen felt a pang in his heart seeing her awkward smile. Indeed, their foster parents in the city were selfish. Fortunately, this girl was more thoughtful and resilient. If she really entered the Zhao family’s door, it might not be a good thing.

He decided to take better care of her in the future. She is indeed a poor child like Shitou.
