Reborn Back To The Time When I First Got A Job
Reborn Back To The Time When I First Got A Job | Chapter 19

Chen Xiao smiled, “Quite professional, huh?”

Lu Nan didn’t intend to show off, so she hesitated before saying, “I used to do some similar work during my internship.”

Anyway, you can’t go to CIMC Logistics and ask what my internship job is about.

“Not bad at all. Come, I’ll explain, you type, let’s create an electronic version.”

“Sure, Brother Chen.”

To Lu Nan, this was just something any new person could do, but she forgot that even if a newbie considered this step, they would hardly reach Lu Nan’s current level of accuracy in practical notetaking.

Each point was concise, yet it captured all the key points of Chen Xiao and Mr. Yang’s discussion.

Chen Xiao was satisfied. He didn’t hesitate to praise Lu Nan because her notes saved him the time of recollecting and structuring the conversation into a document.

As Lu Nan typed, Chen Xiao noticed another advantage of hers—she typed very quickly, touch-typing with almost zero errors.

After just half a day together, Chen Xiao found that what he accidentally overheard her former boss say at the Sofitel hotel lobby last time surprisingly made sense: an employee with evident strengths in all areas and who is also good-looking indeed deserved to be retained.

After finalizing the contract, Chen Xiao checked the time—it was 3:30 in the afternoon. “I have nothing urgent to attend to here now; you can leave for the day.”

Although Lu Nan knew this was Chen Xiao’s usual way of doing things, she still feigned surprise, “Now?” Glancing at the office clock, her implication was: Wasn’t it too early?

“No worries, I know you went to the tasting event with Chen Lu last night. Go home early today and rest.”

“Alright, thank you, Brother Chen.” Lu Nan knew that what followed wasn’t something a newbie like her could participate in; Chen Xiao probably had to wait for Manager Wang and Director Xiang to return.

…

The next day, before the morning meeting, Sasha took the initiative to chat with Lu Nan, “I’m going to give away wine today. Do you want to come with me?”

Lu Nan hesitated for a moment and said, “I’ll go ask Manager Wang and Brother Chen if there are any work assignments for me.”

Of course, Lu Nan wasn’t foolishly going to the office to ask the leaders, “What are my tasks for today?” That kind of question could imply that she wasn’t proactive or capable of finding work on her own and could potentially cause trouble.

Lu Nan’s way of speaking was like this, “If there are no special assignments today, Sasha mentioned she’s going to a wine donation event and suggested I go to observe and learn.”

Manager Wang glanced at Chen Xiao with a playful look in his eyes.

Chen Xiao cleared his throat and said, “Not today, I need to go with the General Director and Manager Wang to Feixiang. But there’s a batch of externally transferred new employees coming in, and the Provincial Office’s administrative staff and HR will be very busy. It’s not convenient for Wu Fang to move around. Lu Nan, you can come with us and take Wu Fang’s place temporarily to take notes of the meeting.”

Lu Nan just wanted to slack off and avoid getting fired, so naturally, she had to follow her leader’s orders.

She left the office and said quietly, “Sasha, I haven’t finished the task Brother Chen assigned me. So, I can’t join you today.”

Sasha forced a smile, “Oh, I see. That’s fine, then maybe tomorrow.”

…

Today, they went to Feixiang and took General Director Xiang’s car.

Director Xiang had a driver, so Lu Nan without hesitation sat in the front passenger seat.

So, in the back seat, from left to right, sat General Director Xiang, Chen Xiao, and Manager Wang.

It was fortunate that among the three of them, only General Director Xiang had a slightly larger build, so sitting together in one row wasn’t cramped.

Before Lu Nan got into the car, he sneakily glanced at Manager Wang’s expression—clearly, securing a medium-sized dealer was something to be happy about, but Manager Wang’s expression was strange. After thinking for a while, Lu Nan recalled a popular emoticon from later generations: “Do you think I look happy?”

Yes, that emoticon exactly.

Thinking about it, even though the offices are located together, Director Wang is still the head of the Hailin City Office, and the dealer they are about to sign with is also from Hailin City and not directly related to the Provincial Office.

If we secure the deal with Feixiang, it will count towards the Provincial Office’s performance when consolidating results from each city office. It would be inappropriate for Director Xiang to reach out like this and take credit.

Sitting in the front row, Lu Nan couldn’t help but analyze the relationship between the three men in the back seat. Chen Xiao, positioned between them and acted as a mediator in their professional lives.

Today, bringing me along again feels like Chen Xiao’s compromise. It not only helps me deflect Sasha’s probing questions but also satisfies Manager Wang. General Xiang’s presence can be seen as provincial leadership showing concern for municipal office investment promotion efforts and providing stronger policy support. However, administrative staff from the provincial office must absolutely not appear at the negotiating table when signing contracts with Feixiang Advertising.”

Having thought through this, Lu Nan was even less inclined to slack off today. After all, she had to work under Manager Wang for half a year. Even Wu Fang had advised her on whose instructions to follow.

Lu Nan pulled herself together to take meeting notes—it wasn’t difficult, mainly just General Xiang enthusiastically approving incentives within his authority, such as providing a wine cabinet for the store Mr. Yang was preparing, and so on, which wasn’t a big deal.

After the basic things were settled, Mr. Yang invited them to lunch.

General Xiang laughed heartily, “Then let’s not stand on ceremony. I happen to have a few bottles of wine in the trunk today. Mr. Yang is about to become our client, so we should celebrate a bit more.”

—

It was noon, and Lu Nan noticed Mr. Yang’s slight frown. She thought to herself, “Knowing Mr. Yang, he only wants to eat lunch; he must have other work arrangements for the afternoon.”

But regardless of Xiang Yunfeng’s character and professional abilities, he had managed to become the General Director of the Provincial Office, indicating he must have exceptional qualities.

Lu Nan believed Xiang Yunfeng’s exceptional quality lay in creating an atmosphere for drinking, which he deserved full marks.

At the round table, Mr. Yang sat at the host’s position, with Director Xiang sitting at the guest’s position.

The boss lady of Feixiang  advertising, Sister Pei, sat to the right of her husband, followed by Mr. Yang’s younger uncle, who was also his driver.

On Director Xiang’s left sat Manager Wang, followed by Chen Xiao, Lu Nan, and Director Xiang’s driver.

As for the meal, how should Lu Nan describe it?

Perhaps because Mr. Yang had already signed the contract and was now waiting for the branch office to scan and stamp it at headquarters, Director Xiang’s attitude had also relaxed somewhat. This might have been his typical demeanor at social gatherings, believing that people only truly enjoyed themselves when slightly intoxicated.

At first, Manager Wang tried to moderate, but later, tensions rose, and they started a half-serious, half-playful drinking contest—not just that, they also diligently made sure to involve Mr. Yang.

Lu Nan felt Sister Pei’s face darken. She whispered to Chen Xiao, “I’ll go ask the waiter to bring up some mineral water.”

Chen Xiao nodded.

Soon after, a waiter brought in a case of mineral water. Lu Nan quietly placed a bottle next to each person’s tableware. When serving Mr. Yang, she swiftly replaced his liquor-filled glass with one filled with water.

Lu Nan’s movements were so natural and quick that aside from Chen Xiao, who was keeping a close watch on her, and Sister Pei sitting next to Mr. Yang, no one noticed what she had done. Or perhaps later, Director Xiang and Manager Wang did notice the trick in Mr. Yang’s glass, but they wouldn’t be foolish enough to expose it.

Sister Pei smiled at Lu Nan.

…

The meal concluded, and it was past two o’clock in the afternoon.

Everyone had transportation arranged, so Lu Nan considered it a free meal.

Although it’s inevitable that she has to drink a few glasses, isn’t there a pending issue now?

On the way back in the car, Director Xiang closed his eyes and pretended to sleep.

Manager Wang burped and asked Chen Xiao, “Brother Xiao, can we finalize the contract today?”

Chen Xiao glanced forward and made eye contact with Lu Nan in the rearview mirror. Lu Nan immediately understood, “After returning to the office, I’ll wait for Brother Chen to receive the scanned documents from the headquarters, then I’ll come back to Feixiang to deliver the contract.” According to the agreement, once both sides receive the contract, Feixiang should arrange the first batch of payments before June 30th.

Manager Wang moved closer to the front row and saw that Lu Nan was indeed sober. He nodded and said, “Then thank you for making another trip this afternoon. Xiaolu, I find you very suitable for office work.” It’s rare to be young yet perceptive and thoughtful in both speech and action. However, looking at Lu Nan, whose black hair and fair earlobes were only partly visible behind the car seat, Manager Wang felt that with such appearance, it was a bit of a waste of talent for Lu Nan to be an office worker.

Lu Nan smiled but didn’t say anything. What’s so great about office work anyway? If she had an office job, she’d be stuck at a desk all day. How could she find time to slack off?
