Chapter 320: Demented Wu Youyou
Everyone gasped again, looking at the unremarkable Ye Wenxin with strange expressions. Soon, someone recognized Ye Wenxin as the champion of the Immortal Sect Grand Tournament—the female cultivator who downed pills in one gulp.
Hearing this strange description, Ye Wenxin could only respond perfunctorily. She glanced at Xuan Luofei, who also showed an envious expression, and silently offered a bottle of pills.
“Hehehe, I knew you were the best, Zhu-zhu.” Xuan Luofei laughed joyfully as she hugged Ye Wenxin tightly. Ye Wenxin was speechless, but thinking about Zhu-zhu’s tragic death, she only gave a token struggle and didn’t say anything.
The journey continued, with the disciples of the Beast Taming Garden summoning back their spirit beasts and following behind Jin Xiaoqin’s group. Ye Wenxin learned about their situation from Xi Mengxuan. It turned out that the disciples hadn’t died too quickly; rather, they had just discovered the mystery of the Mental Wall today. Shortly after entering, they encountered Jin Xiaoqin’s group.
Jin Xiaoqin let out a breath of relief as she listened, praying that the true disciples of the Azure Wings Sect were safe.
“Don’t worry, Old Jin, they’re all true disciples; they must be clever little rascals,” Ye Wenxin said, trying to ease the pressure on Jin Xiaoqin.
If those true disciples died in the secret realm, it would have nothing to do with Jin Xiaoqin. However, Jin Xiaoqin had entered the secret realm for Ye Wenxin’s sake, so she felt responsible for safely bringing their sect’s true disciples back from the secret realm.
Jin Xiaoqin’s expression grew more complex as she sighed, “You don’t understand; they are our money trees.”
Hearing Jin Xiaoqin’s serious and solemn description of the true disciples as merely money trees for the Azure Wings Sect, Ye Wenxin felt conflicted. Her previous worries about Jin Xiaoqin instantly vanished, and she continued to comfort her, “It’s alright; if a few die, we can always find new money trees.”
The master and disciple’s strange topic left Xuan Luofei and Xi Mengxuan with peculiar expressions. They were increasingly puzzled about how the Azure Wings Sect managed to maintain its position as the number one immortal sect.
The expressions of the other disciples remained tense. On the road, they had jointly killed a few more Yin Fetuses, staying fully alert. Although they were on the same team, their states seemed completely different.
“It seems the adult Yin Fetuses haven’t appeared anymore,” Jin Xiaoqin said, looking at those Yin Fetuses with only heads. She felt that the six adult Yin Fetuses they encountered on the first night were indeed abnormal.
“Think about where we were at that time—the water pavilion. Maybe those people did something that provoked the adult Yin Fetuses to come out.” Ye Wenxin recalled the scene, and figured that those adult Yin Fetuses might have played the role of guardians.
Otherwise, the immortal sect disciples would have died long ago. How could they still be here, ganging up on the Yin Fetuses?
“That’s indeed possible. Since it’s still daytime, why don’t we go over there and check it out?” Jin Xiaoqin sought the others’ opinions after proposing a new idea.
The Mental Wall was already closed, making it impossible to leave. The city was fraught with dangers, and staying longer wasn’t a viable solution. Now that their numbers had increased, it was indeed time to find a way to break through and seek safer areas.
The others had various expressions, but ultimately decided by vote to first go to the water pavilion and check the situation before making any further decisions.
Soon after, a large group of people marched toward the vicinity of the water pavilion, only to encounter Long Qing’er’s team.
Long Qing’er, upon seeing Ye Wenxin and the others, looked very surprised. “Were you also drawn here by the strange noises?”
“No, we just thought since it was still early, we wanted to come over and check things out. Was there anything on your side?” Jin Xiaoqin replied methodically as she started to survey the surroundings.
Ye Wenxin was also looking around, but she focused on the lake.
The Yin Fetuses were still lying inside, soaked in the dark green lake water. As soon as they sensed someone approaching, they opened their eyes and stared at the people on the shore.
Ye Wenxin chuckled softly and began to pick up a few stones from the ground. She threw them towards the water pavilion, causing the Yin Fetuses to leap up and scramble to bite the stones. The scene looked extremely horrifying, yet Ye Wenxin continued to laugh.
The others sensed something was wrong as they watched Ye Wenxin. They thought that the Yin Fetuses had eaten her brain and that she was now completely controlled. Jin Xiaoqin grew very nervous, and just as she gripped her axe tightly, Ye Wenxin turned her head.
“Uh, I’m not possessed. But don’t you think these things look quite cute after a while?”
Everyone showed expressions of disbelief, unable to comprehend what Ye Wenxin found cute about them. Seeing them unable to appreciate the fun of playing with Yin Fetuses, Ye Wenxin took out several silver needles from her bag of holding.
She bent one end of a silver needle into a loop and then took out a long red silk thread, using her qi to embed the needle and thread into a stone. She then threw it back into the lake.
The Yin Fetuses tirelessly leaped up, scrambling for the stone. Eventually, a larger Yin Fetus swallowed it. It tried to chew through the silk thread but found it unbreakable, and gnawed frustratingly at it.
The silk thread was quite ordinary, but Ye Wenxin had infused it with a bit of qi, allowing it to last for a while. One Yin Fetus, seeing the other one struggling, angrily devoured it in one bite. This one also found the thread unbreakable, while the other Yin Fetuses gathered around as well. The bigger Yin Fetus consumed the smaller ones, resembling Russian nesting dolls.
Gradually, the Yin Fetus grew to the size of an adult. It continuously chewed on the thread, completely ignoring the fact that all the other Yin Fetuses in the lake had disappeared.
“Alright, let’s kill it.” Ye Wenxin released the thread with a satisfied smile.
Jin Xiaoqin, unable to wait any longer, flew forward. She struck down with her greataxe, cleaving the Yin Fetus’s head, revealing the face of the Yin Fetus inside. One after another, Jin Xiaoqin poured more qi into her strikes, until she completely obliterated the Yin Fetus.
Green slime polluted the lake, spreading a foul stench. Ye Wenxin hastily extended her thread for Jin Xiaoqin to pull. She safely climbed ashore, but her body was still stained with green slime.
Her clothes sizzled as they started to melt, exposing her fair skin. Jin Xiaoqin looked rather helpless, but she had no choice but to casually remove her outer garment and throw it into the lake.
Looking closely, however, her undershirt was also covered in dark green liquid that continued to eat away at it. Jin Xiaoqin gave a wry smile and looked at Ye Wenxin.
Author: Ah, don’t ask me who Wu Youyou is. I’ll change it. [Covers face]
TL: Author didn’t change it. Was it meant to be Wenxin’s name? I’ve no idea.
