Bai Tao set an alarm for herself and got up early the next day.
Even though she had submitted her serialized manga manuscript and had some time before the next deadline, she initially planned to rest and not go to Pei Shi’s company for material. However, she realized it was a critical moment! She had to go to work!
Fortunately, Pei Shi’s company owned the building and had security guards on duty 24/7. At 6:30 in the morning, Bai Tao presented the temporary employee card that Yuan Mu had arranged for her, passed through the security gate smoothly, and went straight to Pei Shi’s floor.
Today, she woke up early and deliberately avoided catching a ride with Pei Shi. She arrived at the office much earlier than him to accomplish something important!
Thanks to her persistent efforts, she had obtained access to the office with her employee card. Bai Tao tiptoed to Pei Shi’s office door, swiped her card with a “beep,” and slipped into the office.
As soon as she entered, she was overwhelmed by the oppressive atmosphere filled with negative emotions. Pei Shi’s office was too stifling!
The room was filled with lush plants, a thriving money tree, green pothos on the desk, and succulents by the windowsill. Every detail was a minefield! This office, resembling a forest, was far from appropriate!
There was too much green!
It was a constant reminder to Pei Shi that he had been cheated on. How could he not feel depressed?
Pei Shi tried to immerse himself in work to forget the painful reality of his wife’s possible infidelity. But with all these green plants, wouldn’t that drive anyone crazy?
Last night, Bai Tao made a firm decision. After contemplating all night, she decided to start with the details around Pei Shi and improve his mood first.
This man must be feeling down lately. To preserve his marriage, he didn’t even have a chance to vent his negative emotions. Over time, this could lead to psychological problems.
The first step was to eliminate anything around him that could lower his spirits—starting with the green. From now on, she would make sure Pei Shi wouldn’t be reminded of being cheated on.
Since Pei Shi spent most of his time in the office, Bai Tao decided to start with his work environment. She got up early and, after much effort, managed to remove all the green plants from Pei Shi’s office within half an hour.
Soon, the delivery service she had called arrived with new plants—red lucky bamboo, rainbow cypress, red maple, oxalis, and flaming nandina.
These plants might not be the easiest to care for or the most suitable for an office, but they all had one obvious advantage—they weren’t green!
Seeing Pei Shi’s office turn red, colorful, and cheerful, Bai Tao felt very satisfied!
The only blemish was a money tree in Pei Shi’s office, too big and heavy to move. After much thought, Bai Tao decided to trim all its green leaves.
Looking at the now leafless money tree, Bai Tao finally felt it was perfect.
She glanced around, feeling something was still missing. So, she picked up scissors and trimmed the leaves of the red lucky bamboo into heart shapes, placing them on Pei Shi’s desk.
The hearts looked like red peaches, symbolizing her love. Whenever Pei Shi looked up from work, he would see a symbol of her affection.
Bai Tao continued her mission, removing everything with green elements from Pei Shi’s desk. She replaced his calendar with one featuring a pink peach heart background and changed the green pen caps to pink ones with peach motifs.
Initially, she hadn’t planned on such a big transformation, but her professional habits took over. After eliminating the green, she felt the need to harmonize the office’s color scheme. One thing led to another, and she ended up changing other colors as well. She even added a set of pink lumbar pillows for Pei Shi and replaced his tea cup with a pink one. The sticky notes were also now pink.
After all, pink is a color associated with love, evoking romantic feelings and far better than green.
…
An hour later, Bai Tao looked at the completely revamped office with a satisfied smile.
With a sense of accomplishment, she left quietly.
Now, everything around Pei Shi was pink and adorable.
This morning, Bai Tao left the house without cash. She grabbed some money from Pei Shi’s wallet on the dining table and cleverly found a stack of green dollars in his wallet. Bai Tao took the green dollars and ensured the wallet was filled with cute pink yuan. Who needs dollars? People should love their own currency and love yuan!
Feeling she had covered all the details, the only remaining task was the villa. Due to its large size, it required a thorough inspection for green elements, which was a systematic project Bai Tao decided to tackle later.
As if foreshadowing an unfortunate day, Pei Shi woke up with a slight headache. Bai Tao was nowhere to be seen early in the morning, so Pei Shi had breakfast alone. He didn’t mind, even feeling somewhat relieved that Bai Tao had something to do, freeing him from her company at work.
Pei Shi had a framework cooperation meeting with a potential client early that morning, so he had his driver take him directly to the meeting location. The negotiations went smoothly, and Pei Shi’s headache disappeared. He returned to his company in a good mood.
This good mood lasted only until he opened his wallet.
He had been robbed!
All the dollars in his wallet were gone!
Pei Shi retraced his steps and concluded the only time a pickpocket could have struck was the few minutes he spent at the coffee shop after the meeting. Although he couldn’t understand why the yuan in his wallet was untouched while the dollars were missing, it was clear he had been robbed. Pei Shi reported the theft to the police and requested the coffee shop’s surveillance footage.
After a brief statement to the police, Pei Shi returned to his office, unaware that an even bigger shock awaited him.
For a full minute after opening the door, Pei Shi didn’t know how to react.
After a minute, Pei Shi stared at the horrifying sight of his office, wondering if his mind was playing tricks on him. He took a deep breath, exited the office, closed the door, and waited calmly for five seconds before reopening it.
Unfortunately, nothing had changed.
Or rather, everything had changed. His office, once filled with green plants, now featured an array of unattractively arranged red and pink plants of unknown species, completely lacking aesthetic appeal.
The office no longer had the fashionable simplicity and tech-savvy vibe of a modern startup. Instead, it resembled the tacky, celebratory style of a rural entrepreneur’s space.
The worst part was his favorite money tree, now stripped of its lush green leaves, with a ridiculous red bow tied around its bare trunk.
Looking around, Pei Shi noticed his dark green lumbar pillows were gone, replaced by pink and red elements, along with some miscellaneous colors. He felt like he was surrounded by a colorful coral reef in an underwater world, utterly surreal.
Suppressing his emotions, Pei Shi called the front desk, “Who entered my office this morning?”
