However, after pondering for a long time, Ji Chenai couldn’t recall where he had seen that man before.
Just then, Zhou Yaoyun returned with the mattress he had bought.
He said, “Brother, the mattress has been purchased; let’s go.” After that, he went to check out.
Ji Chenai shouted. “Someone has already did it.”
Zhou Yaoyun was startled by the words and asked, “Who?” Ji Chenai stayed home all day, so he naturally didn’t know anyone in the city.
Ji Chenai said, “I don’t know.”
Zhou Yaoyun frowned slightly, as if wanting to say something but held back. Finally, he said, “Brother, don’t eat food bought by strangers.”
Ji Chenai: “…” feeling a bit confused about the situation.
The two of them left the coffee shop and began walking outside.
In June, the weather was bright and sunny. It’s still early evening, the peak time for office workers leaving work.
Zhou Yaoyun asked Ji Chenai what he wanted for dinner and if he wanted to buy a cake to bring back for breakfast the next day. Ji Chenai declined, not being fond of sweets like Zhou Yaoqin and having no particular food preferences.
As they passed by a park near their home, Xiao Qi suddenly exclaimed, “Detected strong negative energy! Detected strong negative energy!”
Ji Chenai was nudged forward by Zhou Yaoyun, and upon hearing this, he furrowed his eyebrows and asked, “What’s going on?”
Xiao Qi said, “Ten o’clock ahead!”
Ji Chenai glanced to his left but didn’t see anything unusual in the crowd. He asked, “Be more specific.”
Xiao Qi clarified. “Someone is calling for help!”
Calling for help? Rather than rushing to assist, Ji Chenai inquired, “How much energy can we harness this time?”
Xiao Qi seemed somewhat dissatisfied with Ji Chenai’s rational approach. He muttered under his breath before finally stating. “It’s substantial, a hundred points.”
Well, a hundred points was almost like altering a twisted life trajectory. Ji Chenai said as he patted Zhou Yaoyun’s hand. “Xiaoyun, please stop for a moment.”
Zhou Yaoyun paused and asked, “Brother, what’s the matter?”
Ignoring her question, Ji Chenai began to carefully observe the crowd ahead and to his left. It didn’t take long for him to notice something. Amidst the bustling crowd, there was a woman in her forties or fifties, pleading with a young girl who looked only a few years old.
Although the little girl’s face was very dirty, her cute appearance still shone through. She knelt on the ground, continuously kowtowing to passersby. Her forehead was bruised and purple, and the iron box in front of her was filled with coins. Ji Chenai had heard about child abduction and trafficking for begging in the news, but he had never witnessed it firsthand. He felt he should be outraged by such things, but at that moment, Ji Chenai realized he seemed to lack compassion. It was as if nothing could stir his emotions anymore, and he no longer understood what empathy truly meant.
