End
“You’re awake?” Ruan Yuexi quickly snapped out of her daze and asked him.
Shang Yao just stared at Ruan Yuexi in silence, gripping her hand tightly.
“What’s wrong? Where does it hurt?” Ruan Yuexi, fearing he might be in pain, was about to call for a doctor.
He pulled her hand, causing her to fall into his embrace. Even though he groaned in pain, he still wouldn’t let go of her.
Ruan Yuexi didn’t dare to struggle, unsure of what was happening with him.
“Having you here is really good,” Shang Yao said in a hoarse voice, his usually cold eyes now glistening with tears.
Ruan Yuexi was taken aback. “Did you dream about something while you were unconscious?”
Shang Yao was silent for a few seconds. “Yes.”
“What did you dream about? Tell me,” Ruan Yuexi asked with curiosity, wondering if he had dreamed of past lives or something similar.
Ruan Yuexi was surprised to find that her guess was right.
“I dreamed that we had a pair of twins.”
Ruan Yuexi: “…” Could he be any more serious?
“I don’t want to talk about such nonsense. Just stay here. I’ll go call the doctor,” Ruan Yuexi said, giving Shang Yao a glare.
That glare made Shang Yao feel a strange tingling sensation, as if he had been electrocuted.
When Shang Yao woke up, everyone was overjoyed to see him, and even Ye Yishen came to visit.
The rivalry between him and the others was thus resolved. Lu Yiliang and Ning Chen left the ward together.
Both of them were at a loss for words, unsure of what to say. Ning Chen finally spoke up: “Shang Yao can be considered a man.”
Lu Yiliang smiled. “Indeed.”
They fell silent again. “Have you given up?” Ning Chen asked.
Lu Yiliang nodded slowly. “What else can be done? Fate and destiny don’t align, and I can’t compete. Besides, Shang Yao is better in every way.”
Ning Chen lowered his gaze, trying to hide the pain in his heart. This life may not be their time, but he hoped in the next life he could be with her. For now, he would just watch her be happy.
Ye Yishen was initially interested in Ruan Yuexi but found it amusing. Seeing Shang Yao so committed, he naturally withdrew.
Ruan Yuexi’s feelings towards Shang Yao also improved gradually. Not only because he saved her and their past attempts to kill each other seemed balanced, but also because she noticed Shang Yao obsessively staring at her during the nights he couldn’t sleep.
She wondered what was wrong with him—whether it was a mental issue or a result of his injury. Ruan Yuexi didn’t dare to ask, believing that showing more care was always a good thing.
Time passed, and a year later, Ruan Yuexi was pregnant. Luo Yuqin was overjoyed, having eagerly anticipated this moment. She thought she would never get to hold a grandchild in her lifetime.
Shang Lie was also very happy and excited, pacing back and forth behind Luo Yuqin.
Shang Yao, on the other hand, was calm but worried that something might happen to Ruan Yuexi. In just two months, he had transformed from a cold and unfeeling person into a deeply concerned husband.
Ruan Yuexi laughed at him, “What are you worrying about? As long as you take good care of me, nothing will go wrong.”
Shang Yao was not comforted by her words. He continued to hold Ruan Yuexi tightly, his handsome face still filled with worry.
The entire pregnancy period passed with Shang Yao’s intense gaze being somewhat bothersome, but she knew it was because he was worried about her safety.
Despite her frustration, Ruan Yuexi’s anger was often directed at Shang Yao, who never showed any signs of anger but was always patient and soothing.
When Ruan Yuexi was pushed into the delivery room, Shang Yao insisted on accompanying her. Throughout the process, his hands were trembling.
Ruan Yuexi screamed in pain, and Shang Yao’s face was even paler than hers. When she finally gave birth, he held her hand tightly.
“I’m sorry, we’ll never have another child,” Shang Yao said with a voice full of tears.
Ruan Yuexi weakly moved her hand he was holding, “Let’s talk about it later.”
After being pushed out of the delivery room, Luo Yuqin and Shang Lie first went to visit Ruan Yuexi and stayed for a while. Ruan Yuexi could see their eagerness to see the baby and guessed they were hesitant to leave her side for fear of neglecting her.
“Mom, Dad, go see the baby. I’m fine with Shang Yao here.”
Luo Yuqin and Shang Lie eagerly agreed and rushed to see the baby.
Ruan Yuexi couldn’t help but laugh at their excitement. “Aren’t you going?” she asked Shang Yao.
Shang Yao shook his head. “I only need you.” His firm tone made Ruan Yuexi momentarily dazed.
She touched Shang Yao’s hand in response. The two of them looked at each other in silence, but everything was understood without words.
The sunlight outside was bright, and Ruan Yuexi gazed at the dazzling light. She never imagined she would have come this far, step by step, to this day. Perhaps more beautiful things await in the future.
