Chapter 338: The Odd Ghost Mother
Warning: Some disturbing content.
But the runes on the iron bars activated at Ghost Mother’s touch. The Five Elements Eight Trigrams Array appeared, glowing with golden light. Ye Wenxin carefully observed and noticed a control formation not far away, linking the entire dungeon.
Ghost Mother showed a disappointed expression as she evidently realized that her plan was not feasible. Ye Wenxin walked around, observing the intricate formation, and realized that its complexity was beyond what Liu Churan could handle.
Perhaps the so-called Celestial Master Zhong had set up all of this. If he hadn’t, Liu Churan would have likely kept Ghost Mother by her side long ago, instead of leaving her in this secret realm for over a decade.
Knowing that Ghost Mother could produce the Yin-Yang Pearls had already stirred Ye Wenxin’s interest. Despite the challenges, she wasn’t about to give up easily. After some thought, Ye Wenxin decided to inquire about Ghost Mother’s daily life first. “So where did you get your Yin energy before?”
Ghost Mother pointed to the Yin Fetuses in the other cells. “I got it from them, but my eating habits are a bit unsightly, so I’m a little embarrassed to eat in front of you.”
Ye Wenxin’s gaze followed the direction of her finger, and she saw that there was a mechanism inside Ghost Mother’s cage.
As Ghost Mother spoke very coyly, the image of her opening her large mouth to eat the hosts appeared in Ye Wenxin’s mind, causing her to shudder again. But considering she had seen all kinds of things, she continued, “It’s fine, I eat very messily too. You go ahead. I was born not long ago, and don’t know how to absorb Yin energy.”
Ye Wenxin continued to lure Ghost Mother, who still showed a bashful girl’s smile, but this time she didn’t hold back and pressed the switch next to her. In an instant, gaps opened up on the other cells’ floor, and the Yin Fetus hosts were naturally attracted to the gaps. Several of them fell down and appeared in Ghost Mother’s cage.
When Ye Wenxin looked closely, there was an array on the wall, which seemed to be for transporting the hosts to Ghost Mother’s side, as well as preventing her from overeating. It was an infuriatingly thoughtful treatment. Seeing that the entire underground room housed only Ghost Mother, Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but feel that she had some indescribable relationship with the secret realm’s owner.
“Then, I’ll really eat.” Ghost Mother was still somewhat shy, obviously not accustomed to eating in front of others. Ye Wenxin had already prepared herself mentally and nodded. “Don’t worry, I’m a ghost too; I can handle it.”
Although she said this, Ye Wenxin was already starting to recite sutras in her mind. She tried hard to maintain a balanced state of mind, to avoid being shocked by Ghost Mother’s eating scene later, which could potentially traumatize the girl.
Ghost Mother finally moved. Her beautiful, slender hands transformed into demonic claws and unhesitatingly reached for a host’s belly. She ripped it open, then directly pulled out a fully-nourished Yin Fetus.
Ye Wenxin had thought Ghost Mother would devour the Yin Fetus in one bite to replenish her missing Yin energy. However, she was too concerned about Ye Wenxin’s presence. Her black ghost hand reached into the Yin Fetus. This time, the ghost hand penetrated the Yin Fetus’s body and surprisingly extracted a small, semi-circular green orb.
It somewhat resembled a bun in shape, and appeared to be the Yin Fetus’s true essence.
“What’s this?” asked Ye Wenxin.
“This is a Yin Core,” replied Ghost Mother before taking small bites of the Yin Core, just like eating a bun, and slowly digested it. The other hosts didn’t struggle, and allowed Ghost Mother to open them up as she pleased.
Strangely, when Ghost Mother destroyed a Yin Core, the corresponding host disappeared from the room.
It was probably another of Celestial Master Zhong’s thoughtful arrangements, leaving Ye Wenxin unsure whether Ghost Mother was imprisoned, or enjoying her ghost life.
“Do you always eat like this?” Seeing Ghost Mother staring at her, Ye Wenxin turned her head slightly to look elsewhere, allowing Ghost Mother to eat more comfortably.
“No. I usually eat the ghost fetuses whole. It tastes better that way. Eating like this makes the taste a bit too strong.” Ghost Mother explained the reason for her actions, making Ye Wenxin even more perturbed. She thought of the terrifying scene of the Ghost Mother devouring the Yin Fetuses in large gulps and understood why Ghost Mother didn’t want to act so openly in front of her.
“Did Ah Ran see this before?” Ye Wenxin asked again.
“Yes. She fainted from fright, and I was afraid you’d react the same way.” Ghost Mother’s voice softened as she mentioned Liu Churan. Her tone and expression became very gentle, indicating that their relationship must be quite good.
Ye Wenxin nodded, unable to think of any other questions at the moment. She looked around at the array again, checking to see if she could forcibly destroy it.
Seeing that Ye Wenxin wasn’t watching her eat anymore, Ghost Mother began taking slightly larger bites. Despite her actions, her expression and demeanor were still like those of a sixteen-year-old girl sneakily snacking. If not for her somewhat unusual dark green hair and eyes, she could easily surpass many on the Unparalleled Beauty List.
“I still don’t know your name,” Ghost Mother said after a moment, initiating a conversation with Ye Wenxin. Worried that she might not be able to get the Ghost Mother out and that Liu Churan would come back to chat with her, Ye Wenxin naturally gave a fake name: “I’m Lei Dada.”
Ghost Mother repeated the name several times, trying to imprint it in her mind, and then continued, “That’s a really nice name. Can I call you Dada?”
Ye Wenxin nodded, looking at Ghost Mother who was stained with green blood. “And you? What’s your name? I can’t keep calling you Ghost Mother.”
Ghost Mother shook her head. “I used to have a name, but I’ve lived so long that I’ve forgotten it.” She frowned slightly, trying to recall her previous name, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t remember. She finally said, a bit apologetically, “You can call me Gui Gui, just like Ah Ran does.” (TL: Gui – ghost)
Only Liu Churan could have come up with such a simple and straightforward name. Ye Wenxin’s lips twitched, but she ultimately refrained from commenting too much on the name. Instead, she lowered her head and busied herself with studying the array, recalling the various formations she had encountered when she was with Long Qingyue.
There were somewhat similar ones, but the array before her was much more powerful than any she had seen. Ye Wenxin found herself in a difficult position, and Ghost Mother became even more puzzled. “Are you planning to leave?”
This was the second time Ghost Mother had asked this question. When Ye Wenxin turned back, she saw the reluctance in Ghost Mother’s eyes. It seemed as if she wanted Ye Wenxin to stay with her forever, but she also clearly knew that this was completely impossible. She could only hope that Ye Wenxin would stay a little longer.
However, staying in this dungeon would lead nowhere. After some thought, Ye Wenxin replied, “Yes, I’m planning to look around.” Naturally, Ye Wenxin didn’t dare to reveal her intention of trying to get Ghost Mother out until she was more certain of her plan.
