70s Young Wife Teased! Black-bellied Officer Loses Control in Jealousy Chapter 159

Chapter 159: Back

Cheng Jingmo slung the large woven bag over his back, carried the big backpack on his chest, and picked up a suitcase in each hand, leaving him covered in luggage.

Yu Xiangnian couldn’t bear it, “Cheng Jingmo, let me carry the backpack.”

“No need, the mountain path is difficult. Just watch your step.”

Yu Xiangnian tried to take one of the suitcases from him, “Give me one. All this weight is going to crush you.”

Cheng Jingmo brushed her hand away, “I can handle it. Just take care of Xiao Jie. Let’s go.”

Yu Xiangnian held the flashlight as the three of them walked side by side.

The dirt road was uneven and full of potholes, with deep ruts from cart wheels along the sides. One wrong step could easily cause a twisted ankle.

Yu Xiangnian shone the flashlight ahead. The winding road seemed endless.

Neither Yu Xiangnian nor Xiao Jie had ever walked such a path before. They tread carefully, moving slowly.

The night was pitch black, with mountains and forests surrounding them in silence, broken only by the sound of their footsteps.

Yu Xiangnian’s legs were already sore from the previous night’s exertions, and the rough road made every step a struggle.

After over forty minutes of walking, she couldn’t go on any longer.

“Cheng Jingmo, how much farther to your home?” she asked.

Cheng Jingmo, sweating from the effort of carrying so much, knew Yu Xiangnian and Xiao Jie couldn’t keep up.

He regretted last night’s indulgence deeply.

“About three more hours,” he said, his voice full of guilt. “How about this, we’ll walk until we find a house. You and Xiao Jie can wait there while I run back to the village to get a cart to pick you up.”

Yu Xiangnian and Xiao Jie refused in unison, “No.”

The dark wilderness around them was intimidating, the wind howling as if it would swallow them whole. Neither wanted to stray far from Cheng Jingmo.

Cheng Jingmo stopped, “Let’s rest for a bit.”

He set down their belongings and told Yu Xiangnian and Xiao Jie, “Sit on the suitcases.”

Both were eager to rest and sat on one suitcase while Yu Xiangnian insisted Cheng Jingmo sit on the other.

Instead, Cheng Jingmo knelt down and lifted Yu Xiangnian’s legs onto his lap, massaging them from top to bottom.

In the silent forest, under the dark sky, it felt like they were the only two people in the world.

The flashlight’s beam illuminated Cheng Jingmo’s handsome features, his hair and forehead glistening with sweat.

Kneeling before Yu Xiangnian, his eyes were filled with deep affection and guilt as he gently massaged her feet.

His warm hands enveloped her feet, his rough fingers rubbing her soles.

Yu Xiangnian’s heart tightened, a warm wave washing over her, hot and trembling.

All the exhaustion from the bumpy journey seemed insignificant in this moment.

Previously, when Cheng Jingmo gave her massages, Yu Xiangnian always insisted he continue for at least half an hour.

But this time, after just a few minutes, she pulled her legs back, “That’s enough, I feel much better.”

Cheng Jingmo shifted, preparing to massage Xiao Jie.

Xiao Jie quickly said, “Uncle, I’m not tired!”

More than ever, Yu Xiangnian felt she had chosen the right person.

Despite being exhausted, Cheng Jingmo still cared so much for Xiao Jie, who wasn’t even his blood relative. This wasn’t just responsibility—it was genuine love.

After resting for almost twenty minutes, Yu Xiangnian stood up first, “Let’s go. We should keep moving.”

As they walked, they saw a beam of light ahead and heard the “putt-putt-putt” sound of a tractor.

Yu Xiangnian looked at the light as if it were a beacon of hope.

“Cheng Jingmo, let’s see if we can talk to the driver. Maybe we can pay him to take us back.”

Cheng Jingmo had the same thought.

The three of them waited by the roadside for the tractor to approach. Cheng Jingmo stepped forward to stop it.

He stood by the driver’s seat, “Sir, could you please take us to Zhuqing Village?”

The tractor driver leaned out and stared at Cheng Jingmo, who stared back.

After a moment, both spoke simultaneously.

“Brother!”

“Shuanzhu!”

Hearing the name, Yu Xiangnian immediately recalled that it was Cheng Shuan who had sent the telegram to Cheng Jingmo.

Cheng Shuan jumped down from the tractor excitedly, grabbing Cheng Jingmo’s hand and speaking in the local dialect, “It’s been so many years, I almost didn’t recognize you!”

Cheng Jingmo wasn’t as excited but was still happy, “I almost didn’t recognize you either.”

He then pulled his hand back and introduced Yu Xiangnian and Xiao Jie. “This is my wife, Yu Xiangnian, and this is our child, Xiao Jie.”

Turning to Yu Xiangnian, he said, “This is Cheng Shuan, the eldest in the family.”

Yu Xiangnian nodded and smiled, “Hello, Cheng Shuan.”

Xiao Jie followed suit, “Hello, Uncle.”

“Hello, Sister-in-law, hello, Xiao Jie,” Cheng Shuanzhu greeted back.

He then paused, staring at Xiao Jie, who was already as tall as Yu Xiangnian’s chest. “Your child is this big already?! Didn’t you just get married last year?” he asked in shock.

Cheng Jingmo replied, “We’ll talk about that later. Let’s head home first.”

“Yes, yes! Let’s go home!”

Cheng Shuanzhu quickly walked over and helped load their luggage onto the tractor. Cheng Jingmo lifted Xiao Jie onto the tractor, then helped Yu Xiangnian up before jumping on himself.

They stood in the truck bed as Cheng Shuanzhu found a spot to turn around.

With no barriers around the driver’s seat, it was easy for Cheng Shuanzhu to chat with them.

From Cheng Shuanzhu, they learned that the family had chosen a date and planned to hold a banquet for them tomorrow, but they had been waiting and waiting with no sign of their arrival. All the guests had already been invited, and without them, the banquet couldn’t go on. The family was worried sick, not knowing what had happened to them. Cheng Shuanzhu, now a team leader in the village, had borrowed a tractor to go to the town and see if he could find them. Amazingly, he ran into them halfway.

With the tractor, what would have been a three-hour journey took less than an hour.

The tractor stopped at the road’s end, unable to go any further.

Cheng Jingmo and the others got off, picked up their luggage, and walked the rest of the way home.

They reached a waist-high wall without a gate.

Cheng Shuanzhu climbed over the wall and shouted, “Dad, Mom, Jianwa is back!”

Yu Xiangnian had prepared herself for the poverty of Cheng Jingmo’s family but didn’t expect the place to be without electricity.

The dim light of a kerosene lamp shone from the main room, and soon adults and children, seven or eight people in total, came running out.

“Jianwa is back?!” an elderly male voice called.

Cheng Jingmo quickly put down his luggage and ran forward, “Dad, I brought my wife and child home!”

“Glad you’re back!” The man looked towards Cheng Jingmo’s back.

Yu Xiangnian knew this must be Cheng Jingmo’s father, Cheng Huazi.

She took Xiao Jie’s hand and walked quickly to Cheng Jingmo’s side, “Dad.”

Xiao Jie called out, “Grandpa!”
