At the long dining table, An Rou and An Mingjie sat facing each other.
“Brother, did you put too much sugar in the chicken soup today?” An Rou tasted the soup and found it a bit sweet.
“Too much?” An Mingjie quickly scooped a spoonful to taste.
It tasted the same as usual. Where was the extra sweetness coming from?
Seeing that the young girl was distracted, An Mingjie felt somewhat helpless.
“Rou Rou, did someone confess to you today?” An Mingjie brought up the topic while having dinner.
“Uh… huh?” An Rou nodded drowsily, then immediately realized.
“It’s okay, brother. I’ve taken care of it. I had the bodyguards teach him a lesson!” An Rou raised her small pink fist, waving it a few times with a fierce expression.
An Mingjie felt a chill down his spine when he realized An Rou wasn’t telling the truth.
You taught him a lesson? How did you teach him?
If he hadn’t heard the bodyguards’ report, he might have believed her.
An Mingjie sighed, “This weekend, bring him home to meet us.”
He almost concluded that his sister likely had feelings for someone.
As a responsible older brother, he needed to investigate personally.
If that boy named Su Jiang had a clean background and was a good person, he could feel a bit more at ease.
After all, An Rou, at her age, would eventually fall in love, and the youthful fluttering of the heart was something he couldn’t stop and didn’t need to stop.
The An family had a very liberal family tradition, advocating for free love and not arranging marriages within the family.
An Rou: “???”
“What… what do you mean by bringing him home?”
An Rou’s action of drinking porridge suddenly stopped, looking puzzled, not understanding what her brother was up to.
“Brother will help you check on that Su Jiang. If you truly like him, brother will support you.”
“What… Ick!”
An Rou realized, blushing immediately, stood up, pointing at An Mingjie with trembling fingers.
“Who… who likes him?”
“Brother, I warn you, you can eat recklessly, but you can’t speak recklessly. How could I possibly like that jerk?”
“Should I have Li Cai take care of him then?”
“You Dare!”
In her urgency, An Rou immediately realized she misspoke, especially with An Mingjie’s teasing look, she felt a mix of embarrassment and anger.
“I… I mean, it’s not like I want him dead. A-anyway, don’t worry about this, I’ll handle it myself!”
“I… I won’t tell you anymore, hmph!”
An Rou put down her bowl, turned to leave, then suddenly remembered something, stomped over to An Mingjie.
Lifting her slender, fair foot, she stomped down hard.
“Hiss!” An Mingjie gasped.
An Rou’s foot pressed down on An Mingjie’s foot with more force than when she stepped on Su Jiang earlier.
With a dark expression, she turned and headed upstairs.
“You little brat!”
“Finish your meal!”
An Mingjie, speechless, covered his foot. His sister always acted like this, spoiled by the family!
With a sigh, An Mingjie poured the rice from An Rou’s bowl into his own and ate his meal in silence.
In An Rou’s room.
“Damn An Mingjie, stinky An Mingjie…”
“Who likes that jerk…”
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
One punch after another landed on the rabbit pillow, An Rou’s face flushed red. She couldn’t understand why her emotions had fluctuated so much in a single day.
She had never been like this before.
After lying on the bed for a while, An Mingjie knocked on her door.
“I’ve put the food in the fridge. If you’re hungry, heat it up yourself.”
“I have something to do, so I’m heading out.”
“Remember, bring him over this weekend. There’s no discussion about it!”
An Rou covered her ears, feeling particularly annoyed with An Mingjie.
“I know, you’re so annoying!”
Upon hearing An Rou’s impatient voice, An Mingjie shook his head helplessly.
He changed into a different outfit, walked out the door, and An Mingjie’s previous gentle expression was replaced by an endless aura of solemnity.
A member of the An family approached him, whispering in An Mingjie’s ear:
“An, the leader just sent a message for you to visit a few branches of the An family tonight and meet some people.”
“Got it.”
An Mingjie lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.
“My old man, still strong as ever, insists on passing the torch to me so soon!”
He muttered quietly, complaining about his father’s lack of involvement. For the past two years, An Mingjie had been handling almost all the family matters, big and small.
He was exhausted, and he envied his father’s hands-off approach.
After flicking the cigarette butt, An Mingjie got into the car, followed by several black cars slowly driving out of the compound.
…
At six in the morning, the alarm went off.
But it only rang for a second.
Su Jiang swiftly reached out from under the covers and quickly turned off the alarm on his phone.
“I can sleep for another 5 minutes…” Su Jiang muttered to himself.
Half an hour later…
“Darn it! I’m going to be late again!”
Su Jiang hurriedly got dressed and washed up, realizing he had overslept again.
Even in college, there’s still an early 8 am class. Who said life would be easier in university?
Pure nonsense.
While brushing his teeth, he suddenly paused.
“Is this… me?”
Su Jiang looked blankly at himself in the mirror, his face had changed slightly, but not significantly. The main difference was that his body had become more proportionate, and his overall demeanor was more charming.
“Is this… the benefit of mastering combat skills?”
Su Jiang suddenly realized that besides combat skills, he had also gained a bit of muscle enhancement.
No, no time to admire it!
He was going to be late.
Usually, Su Jiang being late wasn’t a big deal; Old Zhang would turn a blind eye to it.
But after annoying Old Zhang yesterday, being late again today would probably lead to a scolding.
With his backpack on, Su Jiang dashed off. Thanks to his mastery of combat skills, he used minimal effort to run at the fastest speed and cover the longest distance, reaching the bus stop within the time limit!
“Phew! Thank goodness for mastering combat skills. Looks like I can sleep for an extra ten minutes in the future.”
Once on the bus, Su Jiang breathed a sigh of relief. Judging by the time, he wouldn’t be late.
He might even arrive earlier than that Wang Ziyang.
He took a short nap on the bus and got off at his stop.
…Don’t ask why he slept on the bus; those who have studied understand.
“Boss, two fresh buns, please.”
