Chapter 23.3
“Wen Yue, you’re a genius,” Li Nianqiu said firmly. “You must be a genius.”
Being able to learn so much just by reading books without systematic study—what else could that be?
Wen Yue blushed at the praise and quickly explained, “No, no, it’s not that exaggerated. It was just a fluke. I’m not that great, and I’m definitely not a genius. I can’t handle harder questions.”
“Even so, you’re still amazing. I’m glad you’re back in school. Our country would have lost a great talent otherwise.” Li Nianqiu said earnestly.
Wen Yue felt a bit embarrassed and continued to explain that she was definitely not a genius. She only seemed to excel because of her extra lifetime of experience.
Seeing that Wen Yue genuinely didn’t want to accept the label, Li Nianqiu stopped insisting but said, “With your level, you will definitely get into college.”
Wen Yue smiled, “Getting into college is enough for me.”
“I was going to tutor you, but it seems you don’t need it,” Li Nianqiu said with a hint of helplessness. She had wanted to be helpful but found it unnecessary. She changed the topic, “Are you planning to go straight to senior year next semester?”
Wen Yue nodded.
Li Nianqiu said, “Great, we can take the college entrance exam together. Which university do you want to go to?”
Wen Yue blinked, “I haven’t decided yet. I’ll figure it out when the time comes.”
They talked for a while about their studies, and then Wen Yue asked Li Nianqiu to continue the gossip from last week, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Seeing how much Wen Yue enjoyed gossip, Li Nianqiu thought about asking her classmates for more juicy stories to share with Wen Yue when they returned to school.
Li Nianqiu, who often tutored others, narrated the gossip vividly, making Wen Yue feel as if she were there, thoroughly enjoying it. No wonder so many people sought out Li Nianqiu’s tutoring despite the cost.
After their gossip session, Li Nianqiu noticed the items on the sewing machine table. She pointed to a pink floral fabric bow and asked, “What’s that?”
“Huh?” Wen Yue looked over and picked up the bow, smiling. “It’s a hair tie with a bow I made. The clothes I brought earlier are old and it’s a waste to just leave them or throw them away, so I repurposed the fabric to make some small things.”
She had been idle at home and making crafts was a way to pass the time while also dressing up, it’s a win-win situation.
The bow was inspired by trendy large bows and was attached to a hair tie. The pink floral bow looked nice and would go well with clothes or dresses.
Li Nianqiu’s eyes lit up, “It’s beautiful. You have skillful hands.”
Wen Yue smiled happily, “Really? I’ll give this to you then. It’s simple to make and doesn’t take much time. Wait a moment, I’ll make one for Xiangdong.”
She was delighted and, without waiting for Li Nianqiu to speak, chose a piece of blue fabric and enthusiastically sat at the sewing machine. After about ten minutes, another fresh bow was ready.
“Just attach it to a hair tie with some thread. It’s simple,” Wen Yue said, handing it to Li Xiangdong, unable to hide her pride. “It’s a pity there’s no tulle at home. Otherwise, I could sew a layer of tulle on the outside, making it even prettier, or add some decorative beads…”
In her previous life, Wen Yue had read many fashion books to improve her sewing skills.
Li Nianqiu remarked, “These are so beautiful, they could sell for a good price. Wen Yue, would you like to make some money? I think this has potential.”
Wen Yue was surprised, “Huh?”
The conversation had suddenly shifted, and Wen Yue was caught off guard, not following Li Nianqiu’s train of thought.
“There are stalls selling accessories outside our school. I’ve seen them before, but none of them have items like yours, and they aren’t as nice.” Li Nianqiu’s eyes sparkled as she talked about making money. Her demeanor softened. “If we can make a batch to sell, we could earn a lot. Do you want to give it a try?”
“If we try, I’ll go to the wholesale market in the city tomorrow to buy materials. We can split the earnings seventy-thirty. You get seventy, I get thirty. How about that?”
Wen Yue was still processing, “…This can make money?”
Li Nianqiu nodded firmly, “It can. But these accessories are easy to copy, so we should make a lot to sell at once. I guarantee it will make money. Trust me. If we lose money, I’ll take the responsibility.”
Her sharpness and insight were evident.
“I trust you,” Wen Yue responded instinctively.
The novel mentioned Li Nianqiu’s knack for making money, rarely making mistakes or losing money.
Wen Yue finally caught up, blinking, “Sure, but seventy-thirty isn’t fair. How about forty-sixty? You get forty, I get sixty.”
Li Nianqiu shook her head, insisting, “Seventy-thirty is fair. I don’t have much free time, so you’ll be the busiest. Thirty percent is enough for me.”
And so, Wen Yue found herself unintentionally embarking on a money-making venture with Li Nianqiu.
It wasn’t until Li Nianqiu left with her sister that Wen Yue felt a wave of excitement.
Making these crafts could actually make money? No wonder the protagonist was so capable; she only thought of passing time, but the protagonist was thinking about how to make money from these items.
When Zhou Yao returned home, he saw his little wife sitting at the sewing machine, lost in thought with an unfocused gaze.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, raising an eyebrow and pulling Wen Yue back to reality. “What happened? Who came over?”
“Nianqiu brought her sister over,” Wen Yue said, her eyes shining with excitement as she recounted the recent events. She eagerly asked, “Do you think it’s possible? Can these little things I made actually make money?”
Zhou Yao was a bit surprised after hearing her out.
Instead of answering immediately, he said, “Let me see.”
“I gave away the two I made earlier. I’ll make another one for you to see,” Wen Yue said, skillfully starting up the sewing machine. After a few minutes of sewing, she produced another large bow. “Here, it’s like this.”
Her eyes curved into crescents, her tone carrying a hint of unconscious pride. Her eyes sparkled like stars, and a subtle smile played on her lips, revealing small dimples.
For a moment, Zhou Yao imagined a fluffy tail behind her, wagging back and forth quickly.
He was charmed by her adorable demeanor, his heart skipping a beat, and his ears heating up. He barely looked at the bow, nodding stiffly, “It’s very nice.”
Wen Yue’s smile brightened, “Do you think it can make money?”
“It can,” Zhou Yao affirmed without hesitation, his face serious as he nodded.
If no one bought them, he’d just buy them all himself! No big deal!
Even if it meant spending all his savings. Money could always be earned, but such an adorable little wife was irreplaceable!
