Chapter 356: The Right Way to Utilize Ghosts
Ghost Mother, sensing Ye Wenxin’s resistance to letting her absorb Yin energy, seemed somewhat displeased. She reluctantly added, “Of course, the Yin Pearl has fertility functions. If it didn’t, how could I have birthed Yin Fetuses?”
Ye Wenxin was taken aback, and was about to question why there was no record of this in Celestial Master Zhong’s memories. On second thought, she realized that Celestial Master Zhong was a selfless individual, always focused on benefiting the greater good rather than indulging in personal relationships. If it weren’t for this, he could have wrestled with Ghost Mother, instead of keeping her confined until reluctantly setting her free before his ascension.
She tried to scour Celestial Master Zhong’s memories but found it strange that throughout the centuries, aside from his affection for Ghost Mother, Celestial Master Zhong had no interactions with other women.
“He truly was a fool in love.” Ye Wenxin sighed, while Ghost Mother eagerly resumed absorbing Yin energy. Despite absorbing it daily, their thirst for Yin energy seemed insatiable.
Ghost Mother’s appetite was larger than that of Sword Ghost, but ever since she had come out with Ye Wenxin, she had stopped birthing Yin Fetuses. Ye Wenxin had always been curious about what Ghost Mother had been secretly doing during this time, but whenever she asked, Ghost Mother’s answers were always vague. Sword Ghost, naturally, didn’t know either. Although the two ghosts had split from one being, they had developed independent personalities and thoughts over time.
“Wait, I’m not done asking.” Ye Wenxin tried to stop Ghost Mother from feeding once again.
Sword Ghost, already satisfied, was lazily leaning against the side, and wouldn’t answer any questions in this state. Only when hungry would Ghost Mother answer some of Ye Wenxin’s questions, albeit grudgingly.
“Master, can’t you let me eat my fill before asking?” Ghost Mother grew increasingly anxious, as if worried that someone would steal Ye Wenxin’s Yin energy. Ye Wenxin, not understanding this animal-like mentality, soothed, “How about this? You answer my questions, and then I’ll let you absorb as much as you want.”
Ghost Mother’s eyes lit up, and she obediently stopped her actions, waiting for Ye Wenxin to continue her questioning.
“How did you initially merge with the Yin-Yang Pearls? Did you ingest them, or could you use them just by holding them?” The topic of conception made Ye Wenxin excessively uneasy. She felt she had forgotten something extremely important, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall any memories from that time.
“I don’t know. Why don’t you ask Riri? She might remember that part,” Ghost Mother replied, shifting the question to Sword Ghost who was still lying lazily on the side, before pouncing on Ye Wenxin again.
Instinctively, Ye Wenxin blocked her. She cradled the ghost, who was still in her child form, and continued to stroke her head while pursuing her questions. “Then do you know anything about the Yin Pearl, Gui Gui? Is it sufficient to just have the Yin Pearl inside the body for conception, or are there other external factors involved?”
Ghost Mother, clearly displeased, waved her small hands a few times, but found she couldn’t touch Ye Wenxin. She stopped and continued to respond, “Of course, it’s by gathering Yin energy that a ghost fetus, what you humans call a Yin Fetus, can be born.”
“So, the holder of the Yin Pearl just needs to absorb Yin energy to reproduce? That’s too unscientifi—er, not normal.” Ye Wenxin found it unbelievable. If it was just a matter of absorbing Yin energy to reproduce, then it was highly possible that Qiao Ni was her child.
Ye Wenxin shuddered at this thought, finding it hard to believe this reality. Ghost Mother seemed to sense Ye Wenxin’s fear and added, “I don’t know about humans, but that’s how it works for me. What happens with humans is beyond my knowledge.”
Ghost Mother looked at Ye Wenxin with a heated gaze, not like she was looking at her master, but more like she was looking at a delicious meal. Her ghostly horns slightly emerged, making Ghost Mother appear quite adorable in her current form.
If Ye Wenxin didn’t have memories of Ghost Mother’s massacres, this cute exterior might have fooled her. However, knowing that Ghost Mother was skilled at pretending so she could extract more Yin energy, Ye Wenxin remained cautious to avoid being drained dry, and suffering a great loss.
“I have another question. Please bear with me for a moment, Gui Gui.” Ye Wenxin patted Ghost Mother’s little head, trying her best to soothe her. But Ghost Mother had become even more restless. Her tiny body lunged into Ye Wenxin’s arms, then she began to absorb frantically.
Ye Wenxin felt Ghost Mother drawing out the chaotic energy within her, but she couldn’t pass up this opportunity to ask questions. She reached out and continued to stroke Ghost Mother.
As she petted, Ye Wenxin accidentally touched Ghost Mother’s horns. Ghost Mother let out a yelp, looking at Ye Wenxin with a hint of fear in her eyes.
A ghost’s horns were a symbol of power; the more beautiful they were, the more noble the ghost’s status. Except for ghostly companions, no one could touch them. These horns were also a ghost’s weak point, and their most sensitive area.
Ye Wenxin felt extremely awkward and quickly apologized, “It was an accident.” Despite her words, she didn’t let go, and continued to rub the horns, making Ghost Mother’s body go limp.
“Yueyue, your expression is really—” Sword Ghost was startled, but seeing Ghost Mother with a pleading look for more petting, she relaxed, and immediately mocked Ghost Mother for her weakness.
“If you think you’re any better, give it a try yourself.” Ghost Mother glared, annoyed, and pulled Sword Ghost towards Ye Wenxin, urging her to touch Sword Ghost’s ghostly horns as well.
Ye Wenxin felt quite helpless, but seeing the anticipation in Ghost Mother’s eyes and the disdain in Sword Ghost’s, she gently touched the tip of the latter’s horn. Instantly, Sword Ghost shuddered, and her eyes lit up.
“This feels amazing!”
“Huh? Does it? It felt very strange to me.”
The two ghosts had completely different reactions, and Ye Wenxin finally understood what was happening.
In order to continue their lineage, members of the ghost race developed a method called ghost intercourse. When the horns of two ghosts touched, it was akin to humans wrestling, with a very low probability of successful reproduction. Therefore, ghosts often sought to marry other species, leading to incidents like the villagers offering Ghost Mother as a bride to the Ghost King.
At that time, Ghost Mother was young and unaware of the intricacies involved. Now, despite having come out into the human world, she and Sword Ghost still lacked experience, and viewed the interaction merely as a novel experience.
Ye Wenxin, seeing Sword Ghost’s enjoyment and Ghost Mother’s slight unease, stopped. Sword Ghost, discontented, rubbed against Ye Wenxin’s arm.
“Hmph, truly a useless ghost.” Meanwhile, Ghost Mother continued to absorb Ye Wenxin’s Yin energy. Her body, originally semi-transparent, began to take on a more tangible form.
This indicated the start of the two ghosts’ transformation. Ye Wenxin patted their backs, holding one in each arm, and suddenly felt as if she had two thousand-year-old ghost daughters.
