Jiang Lin was actually more interested in traditional architecture.
Most of the books she read at the library were related to traditional and international architecture, but there were very few available.
During the class discussion, and in the following class, Liu Jianwu covered some specialized knowledge.
Architecture isn’t just about appearance; the fundamentals are architectural mechanics and structural studies.
At the end of the class, Liu Jianwu asked Jiang Lin to come to his office.
Jiang Lin followed him, curious about the reason. Once they were outside the classroom, she asked, “What’s the matter, Teacher Liu?”
Liu Jianwu smiled, “Good news. The school party committee has approved your application. You’ve been accepted as a probationary member and will enter the observation period.”
Jiang Lin was surprised, “Really, Teacher Liu? Who else was accepted? I thought there were two spots.”
Liu Jianwu explained, “There were limited spots. You were the only one accepted from our class, and the neighboring class has only one spot.”
Jiang Lin felt a bit uncomfortable about being the only one accepted, “Teacher, I feel a bit embarrassed being the only one. Won’t the other students have any objections?”
Liu Jianwu reassured her with a smile, “This decision was approved by the party committee. What could the students say? Don’t worry about it.”
Jiang Lin went to the school office, answered a few more questions, filled out some forms, and received a thought report booklet, which required her to submit regular reports on her thoughts and work.
After leaving the school office, Jiang Lin remembered that Guo Yanqiu had asked her to get a check-up, so she went to do that on the way.
Guo Yanqu opened the door and invited Jiang Lin inside.
The room was empty, with no students present, just Guo Yanqu herself.
Jiang Lin noticed that Guo Yanqu seemed a bit odd, both annoyed and resentful. It made Jiang Lin wonder what might have happened inside the room while she was waiting outside.
Jiang Lin greeted her with a smile, “Dr. Guo, did someone upset you again?”
Guo Yanqu, who was now the head of the medical office, had a lot on her plate.
She needed to coordinate with the school’s family planning office, assist with student health checks, treat minor illnesses, and monitor pregnant women, among other duties.
Dealing with difficult students was an added hassle.
Guo Yanqu rubbed her forehead and gave a bitter smile. “If I tell you, would you help me beat them up?”
Jiang Lin rolled up her sleeves, “Just tell me. With the two of us, our combined strength is twice as powerful.”
Guo Yanqu laughed at her response and decided to tease Jiang Lin a bit. “You didn’t come here to ask for a freebie, did you?”
Jiang Lin joked back, “I could use a bit more, but there are so many kids in the countryside that one isn’t even close to enough.”
Guo Yanqu laughed heartily.
Then she shifted the topic to Jiang Lin’s pregnancy, asking if she had any discomfort.
She measured Jiang Lin’s waist and noted, “Why does your waist seem to be getting slimmer? By three months, there should be some signs showing.”
Jiang Lin said, “What are you talking about? You see, there’s already meat.” She tried to lift her dress to pinch the fat on her waist, but Guo Yanqiu stopped her.
Noticing something was off, Jiang Lin heard some noise coming from the corner, “Who’s there?”
There was a white curtain hanging in the corner, behind which was the examination bench.
Guo Yanqiu said, “Oh.”
Jiang Lin turned to look at her and noticed her face was flushed and her lips were swollen.
Suddenly, she understood what was going on and teased, “Dr. Guo, were you fighting over spicy peppers with someone just now?”
Guo Yanqiu, initially nonchalant, suddenly felt embarrassed but quickly regained her composure.
She called out to the curtain, “Come out already!”
She strode over and pulled the curtain aside, revealing Lu Hang, who was hiding behind the curtain and pretending to be invisible by leaning against the wall.
Jiang Lin was shocked, “…!”
“You must be kidding. What are you doing, hiding and pretending not to be seen?”
Lu Hang replied, “…Huh? Who called me? I’m not here. I’m at home.”
Guo Yanqiu said, “…Alright, just go.”
Jiang Lin noticed something off about Guo Yanqiu’s voice, which sounded somewhat weak.
It seemed like they had some kind of conflict.
She knew about their situation: Lu Hang was very superficial and obsessed with appearances.
He had harassed Guo Yanqiu when the original owner was away.
After realizing that Guo Yanqiu didn’t resemble the original owner, Lu Hang lost interest, but Guo Yanqiu developed feelings for him despite everything.
From last year, Guo Yanqu and Lu Hang have been entangled with each other.
Guo Yanqu, who secretly has feelings for him, puts on a facade of indifference, mixing truth with pretense.
Lu Hang is a complete fool in her eyes; he doesn’t understand direct conversation, let alone subtle hints.
Despite this, Lu Hang has only shown interest in Guo Yanqu and has been quite attentive to her.
He complies with whatever she asks, even though he finds activities like shopping and watching movies torturous.
Everyone knows they are a couple, but Lu Hang himself hasn’t quite caught on, which frustrates Guo Yanqu to no end.
Normal people can’t understand or see through their dynamic.
Lu Hang turned to Jiang Lin with a grin, “Lin Lin, you look really pretty today. Let me treat you to a meal.”
He quickly grabbed Jiang Lin to take her out, fearing Guo Yanqu might hit him.
Jiang Lin shook him off, “Behave yourself. Stop being so touchy; it’s annoying.”
She glanced at Guo Yanqu.
After Guo Yanqu fell for Lu Hang, she openly admitted her feelings to Jiang Lin and others, but Lu Hang, being the fool he is, still doesn’t believe it.
He thinks she’s just trying to mess with him.
“What are you doing here today?” Jiang Lin asked.
Lu Hang replied, “I… I came to handle some business.”
He had heard about a girl at the provincial university who was supposedly similar to Jiang Lin.
Curious, he came to check it out but didn’t find her. Now, he’s asking Guo Yanqu about it.
Guo Yanqu told him it wasn’t true, and any resemblance was exaggerated for hype.
The so-called similarities were just tricks to get attention.
People often exaggerate a little resemblance into something significant, and casual observers get caught up in it.
Lü Hang, however, was still keen to see for himself.
Guo Yanqu sarcastically teased him, suggesting that if he wasn’t interested in Jiang Lin, why would he bother looking for this “Jiang Ling”?
Lü Hang argued, insisting he wasn’t interested in replacing Jiang Lin.
He believed Jiang Lin was unique and belonged to Cheng Ge.
He wasn’t desperate to pursue Jiang Lin, just curious to see what the fuss was about.
Guo Yanqu was skeptical, thinking he probably wasn’t as honest as he claimed.
Otherwise, why would he be so obsessed with checking out someone who supposedly resembles Jiang Lin?
Lu Hang had his own theory about beauty: some women look similar at first glance. For example, beauties with round faces and big eyes usually have slightly lower noses and fuller cheeks, so they might seem similar at first.
On the other hand, girls with thin faces, pointed chins, and fair skin often have higher noses, and if their eye shapes are somewhat similar, they can look alike, especially those with delicate, fair skin and big eyes.
However, despite having seen many women in the provincial capital, Lu Hang found that while some women might look similar at first glance, they usually didn’t resemble each other upon closer inspection.
So, Lu Hang was curious: why did Jiang Ling look like his Linlin?
He needed to investigate to see if someone was just spreading rumors or if there was a real resemblance.
Jiang Lin gave him a disdainful look and said to Guo Yanqiu, “Dr. Guo, I’ll leave now.”
Guo Yanqiu smiled faintly, though her smile was somewhat forced.
She tried to ignore Lu Hang but couldn’t resist giving him a glare.
Lu Hang, frightened by the look, immediately chased after Jiang Lin.
Jiang Lin and Lu Hang left the clinic, went downstairs, and headed towards the playground for a walk.
“Lu Hang, stop pretending. Don’t you know how Dr. Guo feels about you?”
Lu Hang scratched his head, confused. “Linlin, what do you mean? I’ve apologized to her, let her hit me, gave her injections, and even went to the movies with her as a form of apology. I’ve done everything. Why isn’t she letting go? I didn’t really do anything to her. I just thought she looked like you at first. But then I realized she doesn’t look like you at all, so I stopped bothering her. I didn’t expect her to react so strongly.”
Jiang Lin rolled her eyes, “Are you stupid? You haven’t figured out that you actually don’t like me.”
Everyone noticed that Lu Hang treated Guo Yanqiu differently from other women, but the fool himself didn’t understand.
Jiang Lin was really tempted to hit him.
Lu Hang said, “But it’s you!”
Jiang Lin stood still and gestured for Lu Hang to lower his head.
Lu Hang looked at her in confusion, “Lin Lin?”
Jiang Lin said, “Just watch me closely.”
Lu Hang glanced at her, laughed after two seconds, “You’re joking.”
Jiang Lin replied, “Look closely, don’t be shy.”
Lu Hang’s face turned red, and he looked awkward, “Lin Lin, don’t do that, I’m kind of embarrassed…”
Jiang Lin gave his arm a gentle tap, “Keep looking.”
Lu Hang looked at her, his face growing redder, and then he started to smile, “I used to want to look at you like this openly, but never had the chance. Now that I can, it feels a bit strange.”
Jiang Lin asked, “What do you see?”
Lu Hang, with a lovesick expression, said, “You’re really beautiful.”
“And?”
“More beautiful the longer I look.”
“You probably feel the same about pretty flowers.”
Lu Hang responded, “You’re more beautiful than flowers.”
“Then do you want to give me a kiss?” Jiang Lin asked seriously.
Lü Hang jumped up in shock, waving his hands, “Lin Lin, don’t do this. I don’t want Cheng Ge to kill me.”
Jiang Lin grabbed his hand, “What do you feel?”
Lu Hang nervously replied, “Cheng Ge! It’s Lin Lin who’s initiating. Don’t blame me.”
Jiang Lin rolled her eyes, “You’re such a fool! You need to face reality. You don’t really like me; you just like looking at my face. Looking at me is just that. Men liking women and women liking men might start with first impressions, but it’s not the same as genuine love. You’ve got it all wrong. It’s not about love or romantic feelings. Do you understand?”
Lu Hang asked, “What’s Liking?”
Jiang Lin, annoyed, punched him lightly, “It means you should ask yourself what kind of girl you really like and who you want to marry.”
Lu Hang: “Marriage?”
The image of Guo Yanqiu’s cold face flashed in his mind, and he shuddered.
She wanted to marry him?
There must be a hidden agenda.
She used to be so unpleasant, almost wanting to kick him into the river.
Now she’s saying she wants to marry him? He couldn’t believe it.
Jiang Lin asked him, “Lu Hang, why do you only like looking at my face?”
There are plenty of beautiful girls.
Even if she fits his idea of beauty, she shouldn’t be the only one.
Guo Yanqiu is beautiful, and so is Zeng Hongjie.
Lu Hang suddenly felt embarrassed, “Did you forget?”
Jiang Lin: “Forget what?”
Lu Hang bit his lip, “Never mind. You should go to class. I have things to do.”
Jiang Lin didn’t bother with him anymore and turned to leave.
Lu Hang watched her back and decided not to tell anyone.
When he was a child, he looked very ugly for a few years.
His face was dirty, and people said he looked like a dirty monkey, covered in filth.
At that time, he yearned for a clean, pure face with no blemishes, with clear and beautiful features.
Once, when he was mocked and felt deeply inferior, he hid in a corner and didn’t want to go home.
In the evening, he saw a little girl in a white cotton dress.
Her skin was as flawless as a peeled egg, with clean, beautiful eyebrows, clear eyes, and rosy lips.
Even her neck, arms, and hands were perfect.
The setting sun made her look as pure and beautiful as a blooming begonia.
He felt a sincere admiration from his soul: she was so beautiful!
So he remembered her, her face, and that feeling of beauty.
To him, anything that matched that feeling was beautiful.
But as Jiang Lin said, it wasn’t love or romantic affection, just a desire from his inferiority.
He couldn’t distinguish it, only instinctively yearned for what he thought was beautiful.
He never wanted to possess her, just to admire her.
When she said “kiss,” his first thought was how he could desecrate her!
But when Guo Yanqiu had pinned him on the examination bench and kissed him, pressing him for his feelings…
Lu Hang’s heart pounded, and he quickly pressed his chest, thinking that woman was too terrifying!
He decided to meet Jiang Ling and see what kind of person she was.
