Chapter 43.2
After finishing the tutoring session with Xiao Xiang, Wen Yue and Li Nianqiu were about to leave when the door suddenly opened. Gao Zhiyuan came in, bringing Wen Xiaoyu with him, shouting, “Grandma, I brought my girlfriend to meet you! Please don’t introduce me to anyone else in the future.”
“Grandma, you…” Wen Xiaoyu sweetly called out, but her smile froze when she saw Wen Yue, her eyes wide in disbelief: “Wen Yue? What are you doing here?!”
Wen Yue was taken aback for a moment. “I’m here to tutor someone.”
“You two know each other?” Gao Zhiyuan seemed surprised and then remembered that Wen Yue and Wen Xiaoyu shared the same surname.
“Yes.” Wen Yue didn’t want to elaborate and smiled, “We’re heading back now.”
She didn’t want to have too much interaction with Wen Xiaoyu, so she quickly said goodbye to Li Nianqiu and Grandma Gao and left the Gao family. Honestly, the way Wen Xiaoyu looked at her was a bit frightening, as if she was going to take something away.
Wen Yue and Li Nianqiu left.
“Zhiyuan, what was that about?” Grandma Gao looked at Wen Xiaoyu, scanning her up and down, “Is this your girlfriend? How did you meet? Do you know those two little teachers from before?” She fired off several questions in one breath.
Seeing Wen Yue, Wen Xiaoyu’s expression was no longer sweet and natural. It held a hint of awkwardness: “Hello, Grandma. I’m Wen Xiaoyu. Wen Yue is my cousin.” She hadn’t intended to mention it, but fearing they would ask about Wen Yue, she revealed their relationship.
Upon hearing that Wen Xiaoyu was Wen Yue’s cousin, Grandma Gao’s expression softened immediately: “Oh, so you’re Wen Xiaoyu, the cousin of Little Teacher Wen! No wonder you look so familiar. Your cousin really is married, right?”
Wen Xiaoyu confirmed with a slight nod.
“Oh, what a pity…” Grandma Gao sighed. Noticing that Wen Xiaoyu pursed her lips, she quickly changed the subject to inquire about her family background.
Upon learning that Wen Xiaoyu was currently in her senior year, Grandma Gao was even more pleased.
“Little Teacher Wen has such great grades. Your grades should be good too, right? The college entrance exam is just around the corner; where are you planning to apply?” Grandma Gao asked with a smile.
Wen Xiaoyu felt a bit annoyed.
What did Wen Yue’s good grades have to do with hers? This old woman kept bringing up Wen Yue, and it was really irritating, but she didn’t want to show her displeasure.
After all, Gao Zhiyuan was the one she had carefully selected.
He had a job, his parents worked in the city, and his grandparents had worked in government. He was well-off and had connections, plus he wasn’t bad-looking. Wen Xiaoyu was quite satisfied with him and had put in a lot of effort to win him over.
“Grandma, why do you keep bringing up her cousin?” Gao Zhiyuan noticed Wen Xiaoyu’s displeasure and spoke up: “She’s her own person, and I don’t need to compare her to her cousin!”
Grandma Gao shot him a glance: “Alright, alright, Grandma won’t mention her again.”
Putting aside other matters, the fact that Wen Xiaoyu was a senior added to her appeal. Although Grandma Gao preferred Wen Yue, the thought that Wen Yue was already married made her less inclined to play matchmaker.
She told Gao Zhiyuan to work hard and get married soon.
Gao Zhiyuan replied, “Let’s talk about it after the college entrance exam.”
Later, Wen Yue and Li Nianqiu went to the Gao family for tutoring a few more times. On two occasions, they ran into Wen Xiaoyu. Eventually, Grandma Gao apologetically told them that they no longer needed their tutoring services.
Wen Yue guessed that Wen Xiaoyu had likely said something to influence this, as she had always disliked her. However, she didn’t mind. Even without this employer, there were others looking for tutoring, and with the college entrance exam approaching, time was running short.
“Is your husband not coming back for the college entrance exam?”
Wen Yue flipped through the book in her hands and replied, “He’s quite busy over in Shencheng, so it’s unnecessary for him to make the trip.”
Li Nianqiu smiled, “He’s really lucky to have such a capable wife like you.”
Wen Yue had grown accustomed to Li Nianqiu’s teasing. She glanced at the calendar on the nightstand: “There’s only a month until the college entrance exam. Aren’t you nervous?”
Li Nianqiu replied calmly, “I only feel nervous when I’m making money.”
Wen Yue thought to herself, no wonder she’s the female lead. She was feeling a bit anxious herself, even though she had already taken the exam once.
As the date of the college entrance exam drew closer, the atmosphere in the class became increasingly tense—except for Wen Xiaoyu. Wen Yue often saw her dating Gao Zhiyuan on the streets, which puzzled her. She hadn’t expected Wen Xiaoyu to be so confident about the exam.
The last weekend before the college entrance exam.
Li Nianqiu looked at Wen Yue, who was still at home, raising an eyebrow: “Why haven’t you called your husband yet?”
“Uh? He said he would be busy this week and might not be able to answer the phone,” Wen Yue blinked. “Since the exam is coming up, I’ll wait until it’s over to call.”
Li Nianqiu appeared contemplative.
Four days until the college entrance exam.
Three days.
Two days.
One day.
The day before the college entrance exam.
The school had let out to allow students to adjust their moods and prepare for the exam.
Wen Yue and Li Nianqiu were resting at home after lunch, discussing a stroll to the library. The previous day’s light rain had made the weather a bit cooler, so they both put on long sleeves in preparation for going out.
As soon as Wen Yue opened the courtyard gate, she spotted a familiar tall figure.
Wen Yue froze, feeling as if she were seeing a mirage: “Zhou Yao?”
“Yeah, it’s me.”
