Chapter 6.2
Nuo Nuo continued to be as spoiled as ever, crying over various little things. Sheng Zexi wanted to discipline her and teach her not to be so temperamental, but she was just too sensitive. The moment he opened his mouth, she would start to cry.
Without having built a good relationship with Nuo Nuo yet, how could he discipline her?
Since buying things wasn’t working, Sheng Zexi decided to try a different approach.
That evening, after Nuo Nuo finished her dinner, Sheng Zexi returned home. Xu Ai still hadn’t come back, and Nuo Nuo seemed eager to go out and play.
Seeing her ready to head out, Sheng Zexi asked, “Where are you going?”
Her father had never asked her where she wanted to play before, and Nuo Nuo tilted her little head in confusion.
The housekeeper explained, “Miss has finished her dinner and wants to go out for a walk. There are many people in the plaza outside, so we’re just going to take a stroll.”
Sheng Zexi said, “Wait, I’ll take her out.”
The idea of this cold and indifferent father taking his daughter out? The housekeeper, Auntie Lu, was incredulous, unsure why the president suddenly wanted to take his daughter out to play.
Sheng Zexi caught the surprise in Auntie Lu’s eyes and swept his indifferent gaze over her. “What’s the problem?”
Auntie Lu quickly shook her head. “No, no problem.”
“Then sir, do you still want me to go out?”
Since Auntie Lu was responsible for everything, there was no need for him to go out himself. Sheng Zexi declined, “No need.”
However, Nuo Nuo didn’t want her father to take her out. She clung to Auntie Lu’s arm and said, “I don’t want to.”
And then she cried.
With Nuo Nuo’s cry, the atmosphere instantly dropped to freezing point. Auntie Lu felt the pressure and dared not say another word, but the fact that the president was willing to take his child out was a good thing. She quickly tried to comfort Nuo Nuo. “Nuo Nuo, this is Daddy. Don’t you want Daddy to take you out to play?”
After some coaxing, Nuo Nuo finally stopped crying. Then she remembered a night when she had quarreled with her mother and gone to sleep in her father’s room. This daddy, who let her sleep in his room, was a little good, but the little girl still didn’t understand why Auntie Lu couldn’t go out with her. With red eyes, she clung to Auntie Lu’s arm, shaking her head. “I want Auntie to come too.”
“I don’t want Daddy.”
Then she turned to her father and said, “You don’t even know what I need to take with me.”
Nuo Nuo’s words left Sheng Zexi puzzled. Wasn’t playing outside just about playing? Did it require bringing things?
Seeing her father’s reaction, Nuo Nuo realized it was as she thought.
“See? You don’t even know.”
Then she began to list what she needed in a nasal voice: “Going out requires a cup, a towel, toys. Daddy is silly, you don’t know anything. I know everything.”
Nuo Nuo felt a bit proud that she knew more than her father.
Her eyes, bright and shiny after crying, sparkled with a sense of pride.
Having seen much in life, Sheng Zexi was used to thinking of solutions when things weren’t handled well at work. He never expected that one day he would be mocked for being foolish by his own daughter.
After being teased by her, Sheng Zexi ultimately agreed to let Auntie Lu accompany them. He reflected on himself; he had been too anxious, thinking that accompanying a child to play was too simple, but in reality, he knew nothing.
Before heading out, Auntie Lu gathered the things Nuo Nuo needed to take with her. Remembering his daughter’s teasing words, Sheng Zexi took a glance at what Auntie Lu was carrying. The little girl’s bunny backpack contained not only her cup and towel but also tissues, a change of clothes, and some snacks.
It seemed that the little one’s list wasn’t entirely complete. However, Sheng Zexi soon realized he was getting too caught up in this. Why should he compete with a child over who knows more?
Finally, they could go out, and Nuo Nuo stopped crying. She took Auntie Lu’s hand and skipped ahead happily.
The joy on her face resembled a bird released from a cage. Seeing her so happy made Sheng Zexi unable to help but ask Auntie Lu, “Did Nuo Nuo not go out to play yesterday?”
Auntie Lu had interacted with Sheng Zexi enough to maintain her composure around him. Hearing his question, she smiled warmly and replied, “Children are a bit more energetic. They need a certain amount of outdoor activity every day. The air outside is fresh, and there are many kids to play with, so it’s normal for Nuo Nuo to be happy.”
When Sheng Zexi was Nuo Nuo’s age, he had been shuttling between various extracurricular classes and never realized that children needed outdoor activity time. Now, looking at Auntie Lu’s smile and the child’s bright expression, he suddenly felt a sense of newfound perspective.
