Chapter 6: Knowing Her Husband’s Name
“Rou Rou!” Du Haili warmly approached, eyes gleaming with delight. “Why did you call me?”
Du Haili and Mu Ruo were classmates in elementary school.
Back then, Du Haili was very chubby and not very quick-witted. Teachers mocked her for being slow, and she was bullied by other girls in the class, who gave her awful nicknames.
Mu Ruo, a nemesis to the girls who bullied Du Haili, got some boys to beat them up.
From that moment, Du Haili saw Mu Ruo as her savior and became her devoted follower, idolizing her deeply.
The original Mu Ruo quite disliked Du Haili, finding her dim-witted and unable to understand her.
However, having a minion to boss around was often convenient.
Especially since Du Haili’s family was wealthy, even more so than the Mu family.
Du Haili’s parents were very busy, and she was left to her own devices with a lot of money to spend.
Du Haili always came whenever called and never complained, doing whatever Mu Ruo asked, including using her connections to bully Xia Wanwan’s mother.
“I heard from someone that Xia Wanwan is saying you’re vain and money-loving,” Du Haili said indignantly. “That woman is so despicable. I will definitely find a way to teach her a lesson!”
Mu Ruo replied, “Forget about them for now. Haili, can you take me home? To my own place.”
Du Haili looked at Mu Ruo in surprise.
All along, Mu Ruo had called her by her full name, “Du Haili.” Today was the first time she called her “Haili.”
Though it was just one word difference, it meant a lot to her.
Du Haili often struggled to understand many things but was sensitive enough to vaguely sense that her best friend somewhat looked down on her.
Mu Ruo had other friends besides her.
But Du Haili had no other close friends apart from Mu Ruo.
The children of her parents’ friends didn’t play with her much. Throughout her years at elite schools, she was frequently bullied.
During Mu Ruo’s years studying abroad, Du Haili made some friends and dated a few boyfriends.
But these friends and boyfriends were all interested in her money. They only seemed genuinely happy when she was footing the bill and would mock her as a sucker behind her back.
Mu Ruo got into the car, and shortly, Du Haili dropped her off at the underground parking of a residential complex.
Mu Ruo got out of the car and saw Haili sitting there without moving. “Haili, aren’t you coming up for a bit?”
Haili hesitated. “Me?”
She knew Mu Ruo was a bit resistant to letting others into her home.
Mu Ruo only invited her up when they went shopping together and Mu Ruo had too many bags to carry.
Today, they hadn’t been shopping, and Mu Ruo inviting her up felt unexpectedly flattering.
Mu Ruo couldn’t help but laugh. “Of course, you worked so hard to bring your best friend home. Won’t you come in for something to eat? I’m quite hungry.”
Haili followed Mu Ruo into the elevator and proactively pressed the button for the 17th floor.
This floor had only one resident, Mu Ruo. Fortunately, the fingerprint scanner worked, and Mu Ruo entered her home.
Uh…
The original Mu Ruo was a goddess outside, but at home… she was quite a mess.
The original Mu Ruo left home looking pristine and elegant, but her house was a disaster. There were delivery boxes, clothes, and shoes strewn everywhere. The table was covered in a thick layer of dust, and the floor had a sticky, fragrant spot where she probably spilled perfume or lotion.
Haili hesitated. “Should I help clean up your place?”
Mu Ruo: “…”
She gets twenty million a month!
Even with all that money, she still expects her best friend to do the cleaning?
Mu Ruo decisively ordered the most expensive cleaning team via her phone to tidy up the house. They promised to arrive in half an hour and finish the job in two hours.
Seeing that the cleaning team had arrived, Mu Ruo promptly pulled Du Haili away. “Let’s go, we’ll eat out.”
They went to a nearby high-end restaurant.
Du Haili hadn’t had dinner yet, and her stomach had been growling while driving. Now, she was also eager to eat.
When Mu Ruo offered to treat her, Du Haili felt a bit embarrassed. Usually, when she went to such restaurants with friends, she was the one paying the bill. Friends who invited her typically took her to fast food places or small eateries.
Even when she hung out with Mu Ruo in the past, she covered all expenses.
Cutting her steak, Du Haili found herself losing her appetite.
The last time Mu Ruo had been this nice to her was when Xia Wanwan and Lu Beichen had a falling out. Xia, in anger, started working at a nightclub. Mu Ruo had asked Du Haili to spread rumors among Xia’s relatives and friends that Xia was working as a prostitute at the club, saying that Du Haili’s honest appearance would make people believe her.
Although Du Haili was willing to help Mu Ruo, carrying out such tasks was somewhat embarrassing.
She worried that Mu Ruo might ask her to do something even more awkward this time.
Mu Ruo took a bite of foie gras, savoring it with her eyes closed.
Hesitantly, Haili asked, “Rou Rou, what do you need my help with this time?”
Mu Ruo replied, “Hm?”
She quickly understood.
With a smile, Mu Ruo said, “Nothing in particular. We haven’t seen each other in a while, so I wanted to catch up. What have you been up to lately?”
Haili’s spirits lifted immediately.
“I… I have a new boyfriend. He’s really nice to me,” Haili shared. “Tomorrow is my birthday, and he and his friends are throwing me a party. Rou Rou, will you come? It’s okay if you don’t have time…”
“Of course, I’ll be there. Send me the details, and I’ll show up.”
This year, Mu Ruo actually agreed to attend her birthday. Haili’s eyes sparkled. “Great.”
Suddenly, Mu Ruo remembered something. “By the way, Haili, do you know my husband?”
Haili nodded. “Yes, he’s powerful and influential.”
A thought seemed to strike Haili, turning her face pale. “Rou Rou, you’re not planning to harm him and take his inheritance, are you? I can’t be part of that. His family is very formidable…”
Mu Ruo almost choked on her drink. “Cough, cough… cough…”
“No,” Mu Ruo said, wiping her mouth. “It’s just that we haven’t seen each other in so long, I forgot his name.”
… He was so mysterious that even Google couldn’t help.
At a nearby table, two well-dressed gentlemen were seated.
Fu Jianzhi, dining with a friend, had noticed Mu Ruo as soon as she entered.
But this woman was so absorbed in eating and chatting that she paid no attention to the other diners.
Now, hearing such an absurd statement from her, Fu Jianzhi’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“His name is Fu Jianzhi,” Haili said. “I know you don’t have feelings for each other, but I didn’t think you’d forget his name…”
Mu Ruo let out a sigh of relief.
Great, now she knew her husband’s name.
No need to worry about slipping up in front of Fu Jianzhi.
