Chapter 44 : Extra 6 : Enjoying a Fun Day Off With Captain Millie

Today I was invited to Captain Millie’s house. I had been so excited this morning that I baked a berry pie as a gift. The pie turned out better than my previous attempt and it looked very delicious. Of course I didn’t bake it only for Captain Millie, I also made a share for Dietrich-sama. 

After letting the pies cool down, I placed the two berry pies in a box and decorated them with a ribbon. I immediately took the freshly baked pie to Dietrich-sama who was happy to accept it. 

“So this is Melodia’s love pie.”

“No, this is just an ordinary pie.”

Dietrich-sama was holding the box containing the berry pie close to his heart. He looked very moved. Of course I immediately quipped back but it didn’t seem to deter Dietrich-sama in the slightest. 

“You’re going to Captain Toll’s house today, right?”

“Ye-Yeah.”

When I told Dietrich-sama, I was afraid he’d throw a tantrum but contrary to my expectation, he easily accepted it.

“Have fun there.”

I heard Gilbert-sama tell him that a jealous man looked ugly to see. Dietrich-sama, who aimed to look like a tolerant man, saw me off with a smile on his face. Though his smile looked stiff, it was clear he was pushing himself. 

“Today I’m going to think of this warm berry pie as Melodia and hold it close to my heart.”

“Umm… Please just eat the berry pie like you normally do.”

After talking with Dietrich-sama, it was time for me to go. With another box of berry pie in hand, I went out to Captain Millie’s house.

I finally arrived at Captain Millie’s house by riding Duke Fenrir’s carriage. Captain Millie greeted me with a smile on her face.

“Magic Soldier Melodia, it’s been a while.”

“Captain Millie too!”

Captain Millie spread her arms apart and I subconsciously jumped into her arms. She gently hugged me and I was feeling somewhat happy but…. I heard the sound of a dog growling. I immediately separated myself from Captain Millie out of panic. 

“GURURURU!!”

“Huwah!”

A big, honey-coloured dog bared his fangs at me. He jumped out of nowhere, startling me.

“Hey!!”

Captain Millie got angry and the honey-coloured dog looked startled in response. The dog tucked his tail between his legs and became more docile. 

“Magic Soldier Melodia, I’m sorry for making you surprised.”

“N-No. What’s the matter with this doggie?”

“I picked him up from the roadside a month ago.”

Captain Millie talked as if she had picked up a pitiful and adorable puppy. It really proved she was a dog lover to be able to pick up such a burly looking dog. 

Which reminded me, Captain Millie was also the first person to shelter me when I first turned into a wolf. Although I wasn’t as big as this dog, I was still the size of a perfectly adult dog. If it wasn’t for Captain Millie, I would’ve had to spend the night with the horses on that day. I really could only thank Captain Millie for her compassion. 

“Umm…. So are you going to keep this doggie?”

“Can I really say that though?”

Captain Millie folded her arms, making a thinking gesture by touching her chin with her hand. Apparently, this doggie only stayed at Captain Millie’s house from morning to evening. The dog would then wander off to somewhere else at night. 

“What a strange doggie.”

“I know, right.”

This doggie really loved Captain Millie. Everytime I took even one step closer to Captain Millie, the dog would bared his fangs at me. The dog was clever enough to stay one step behind Captain Millie so he didn’t get caught doing so toward me. What a clever doggie. 

“Even though I was thinking of playing with Sleepyhead today.”

This dog’s name was Sleepyhead. Captain Millie called him that because he was always asleep during the day. 

“I thought he’s a friendly dog.”

“I think he’s just jealous. Isn’t that right, Sleepyhead?”

But Sleepyhead didn’t answer. He only continued to ignore me. 

“There’s no way a dog can understand a human language though.”

“True. It’s not like he’s a wolf beastman like a Lou Garou.”

Something must’ve startled him because Sleepyhead suddenly jumped up. 

“Hm? What is it?”

The way Sleepyhead shook his head made me think he was trying to say,”It’s nothing.” but I guess it must’ve just been my imagination. 

“Now then, what are we going to do today?”

“Let’s play with Sleepyhead.”

“But he’s…”

“I know a way to get along with him.”

I picked up a ball that was left lying around in Captain Millie’s garden and showed it to Sleepyhead. Then I tossed the ball to the other side of the garden. Sleepyhead then started to chase after the ball while wagging his tail. 

“As expected from Magic Soldier Melodia.”

“I know full well the heart of a dog after all!”

And so, I was able to get on friendly terms with Sleepyhead without any problem. The operation “Ball is Your Friend” was a great success. The three of us spent an enjoyable time in Captain Millie’s house.

T/N: Yeah that dog is definitely a Lou Garou but he’s the opposite of Melodia. He changes into a human at night! Well I’m glad Captain Millie also managed to have a SO of her own (´｡• ω •｡`) ♡
