Chapter 34: “A Thousand Cups of Milk Tea Won’t Make You Drunk”
The doctor had repeatedly advised Fu Jianzhi against drinking alcohol. If possible, he should avoid coffee and tea as well, as these could easily trigger emotional reactions. However, Fu Jianzhi always treated the doctor’s advice as mere noise. He never liked listening to others.
Mu Ruo woke up groggily. Her alcohol tolerance was indeed average, far from what she had boasted. Just a small half-glass of strong liquor had left her feeling dizzy and sleepy. After drinking, she always felt hot, especially with the burning sensation in her stomach from the liquor. She wanted to drink a bottle of ice water to alleviate the discomfort.
Opening her eyes, she found Fu Jianzhi looking down at her. The aura emanating from him was unusually dangerous, and his gaze felt unfamiliar. Still in a daze, Mu Ruo blinked slowly, “Mr. Fu, are you drunk?”
Fu Jianzhi, at this moment, was in an extremely low mood. An unspeakable irritability made him let out a cold laugh as he grabbed Mu Ruo’s chin forcefully. The touch of her skin was silkier than the finest satin. Fu Jianzhi had always disliked physical contact with others. He appeared amiable but was actually very cold. However, Mu Ruo’s touch inexplicably made him feel attached; once he touched her, he didn’t want to let go, as if holding a soft and harmless doll.
At this moment, Mu Ruo finally sensed that something was off with Fu Jianzhi’s mood. He didn’t seem like a drunken man acting out. His long, deep eyes were usually very calm, but now they lacked their usual clarity. His hand slid down to Mu Ruo’s slender neck, choking it for a moment but quickly releasing when he saw her pained expression.
The leather sofa in the wine cellar was large enough for both of them. Perhaps Fu Jianzhi frequented this place, as the sofa was covered with a layer of soft white rabbit fur. Mu Ruo didn’t know if it was a drunken illusion, but she felt the man tightly holding her on his lap, whispering some dangerous words in her ear. It was probably French or German; Mu Ruo could only understand a bit of English and Japanese and had no clue what he was saying. Eventually, she closed her eyes in a drunken haze.
The next morning, Mu Ruo woke up with a splitting headache and found herself in Fu Jianzhi’s room. She touched herself, still in the clothes from the previous night. However, she only had a vague impression of what happened last night, unable to distinguish between dream and reality.
Taking advantage of Fu Jianzhi’s absence, she sneaked back to her room to shower and change clothes, putting on some light makeup as well. She had an audition for a role today, and if successful, she would have her own job in this world, alleviating the worry of being kicked out by the overbearing president and ending up homeless.
Mu Ruo checked the time. It was ten in the morning. Normally, the busy CEO would have gone to the company by now. As she came downstairs, she saw Fu Jianzhi talking to someone. Butler Li was listening and nodding, while the silent housekeeper was cleaning the railings and floors like a robot. She wasn’t sure when these people had returned from their vacation.
Butler Li glanced at Mu Ruo, and she felt his gaze was somewhat strange. She hoped to sneak past Fu Jianzhi unnoticed, but his voice came from behind, “A thousand cups without getting drunk?”
“……”
Mu Ruo: “I meant a thousand cups of milk tea won’t get me drunk.”
Fu Jianzhi smirked: “Doesn’t Madam want to know why you woke up in my bed this morning?”
Although the maids at home usually act like they are deaf and mute, it’s a habit they developed to keep their high-paying jobs. It doesn’t mean they lack curiosity. They know that Madam and Sir don’t share much affection, and although they seem to get along, they are actually very distant.
Hearing such explosive news suddenly, they all perked up their ears.
Mu Ruo wasn’t sure what happened after she got drunk, but she was determined to deny any attempts at seducing her boss. She hadn’t secured her job yet, and if Fu Jianzhi misunderstood her intentions, she could kiss her two million goodbye.
Mu Ruo hesitated for a moment: “I got drunk.”
Fu Jianzhi looked at her with a faint smile.
Mu Ruo: “I might have mistaken you for Lu Beichen.”
The smile in Fu Jianzhi’s eyes vanished abruptly.
Mu Ruo continued down the path of angering her boss: “Mr. Fu, you know I only love Lu Beichen.”
Fu Jianzhi, out of nowhere, produced the tie that Mu Ruo had bought yesterday.
“This is also for Lu Beichen?”
Mu Ruo nodded vigorously.
Fu Jianzhi let out a cold “Oh”: “Spending my money to support another man, Madam Fu, you are quite something.”
Mu Ruo: “Boss, you know that once the company pays the employees, the money belongs to the employees.”
Fu Jianzhi, unsure whether he was persuaded or infuriated, remained silent for a long while, simply staring at her face.
Mu Ruo sneaked off to the kitchen to eat her breakfast.
Fu Jianzhi handed the tie to Butler Li: “Burn it.”
Butler Li was stunned: “Yes, Sir.”
Fu Jianzhi thought for a moment and decided that burning it was too lenient for Mu Ruo.
“Put it on me.”
Butler Li, who had served Fu Jianzhi for many years, quickly tied the tie for him.
“This tie looks the best on Sir,” Butler Li said earnestly, “If any other man wore it, it would definitely be a poor imitation.”
By the time Mu Ruo finished eating and drinking, Fu Jianzhi was gone. She sneaked off to the garage to find her car, only to discover that the Lamborghini she usually drove was gone. She checked her bag and found that the car keys were indeed missing.
Hmm. This Lamborghini, worth eight million, belonged to Fu Jianzhi. Compared to the brand-new sports cars in the garage that depreciated by two thousand yuan for every kilometer driven, this one was a bit older, making her feel a bit more comfortable using it.
Mu Ruo decided to bother Fu Jianzhi again: “Boss, I need to drive out today.”
Fu Jianzhi: “To deliver the tie to Lu Beichen?”
Mu Ruo: “No, I have serious business, a work opportunity more important than life itself. When I become famous, I’ll treat you to hotpot.”
“The car key is in the drawer of the right-side cabinet in the study.”
Mu Ruo’s eyes scanned from the Bugattis and McLarens at the front to the Ferraris and Aston Martins, each one more flashy than the last. If she drove any of these to the interview, they might think she was the investor or producer rather than a candidate.
In the end, Mu Ruo chose a black Maserati.
