Chapter 62: “Deducting Salary, Two Million”
At this moment, Mu Ruo didn’t know that Director Zhao had learned about her marriage. Only a few people knew about her and Fu Jianzhi’s marriage. Fu Jianzhi was a rather low-key person and rarely appeared in public. The media dared not to take any covert photos of him, and it was not easy to find out about the Fu family online. The more influential the family, the more they often shrouded themselves in mystery.
After wrapping up filming, Mu Ruo returned to Fu Jianzhi’s home. Butler Li, upon seeing Mu Ruo come back, seemed to sigh with relief. During Mu Ruo’s absence, the Fu home had been cold and unwelcoming. Although the young lady sometimes caused a commotion, snacked on the sofa, and had habits that clashed with Fu Jianzhi’s, making the household staff a bit uncomfortable, the sudden emptiness of the house after her departure had left Butler Li feeling a bit unsettled.
Mu Ruo asked, “Is Mr. Fu not home today?”
“He has an important meeting today,” Butler Li replied with a smile. “Has your work been completed?”
Mu Ruo nodded. Filming had indeed been tiring. Although Huo Minli had introduced her to a new project, Mu Ruo chose not to join seamlessly. She wanted to rest and settle down first.
“Recently, Mr. Fu has been very busy with work and is rarely home, often flying abroad,” Butler Li reminded. “Be careful not to upset Mr. Fu.”
Mu Ruo blinked. “Is Mr. Fu in a bad mood lately?”
Butler Li nodded. Because he liked Mu Ruo, Butler Li kindly offered the reminder. Otherwise, he would have just watched her unknowingly step on a landmine. Butler Li was concerned that Mu Ruo might take the advice as a deliberate command to act contrary just to be contrary.
However, Mu Ruo was quite tactful. She didn’t think she was special in Fu Jianzhi’s eyes. She feared that if she inadvertently upset him, she might end up being packed up and thrown out of the mansion.
“Okay, I understand,” Mu Ruo said. “By the way, some brands sent the latest seasonal items. Mr. Fu has already paid for them, and I’ve sent them to your room.”
Mu Ruo: “!!!”
Mu Ruo hurried upstairs and opened the door to her room, unwrapping the packages one by one. They were mostly luxury clothing and bags, all the latest seasonal styles, amounting to two to three million.
This was the original owner’s habit. Since marrying Fu Jianzhi, the original owner’s expenses had increased significantly, and brands sent their new seasonal items directly. But these expenses were covered by herself, unrelated to Fu Jianzhi.
Mu Ruo tried on each item, admiring herself in the mirror when there was a knock on the door.
Butler Li: “To celebrate the end of your filming, I bought a cake. Let’s all share it.”
Mu Ruo: “Butler Li, did you specially order this for me?”
Butler Li nodded.
Although Mu Ruo had already eaten well with the crew, she felt she could still have some more. Seeing Mu Ruo happy after finishing filming, Butler Li was also pleased, much like watching his little granddaughter.
After eating, the maid cleaned up the table. Mu Ruo lay on the sofa watching TV. Recently, a live food program had become very popular, and Mu Ruo watched it whenever she had time in the evening.
Then, Mu Ruo saw a very familiar face on the TV. With the enhancement of the show’s beauty filter, Xia Wanwan appeared exceptionally charming and looked pitiful.
This was a shock!
“Clunk,” Mu Ruo turned off the TV.
“Xia Wanwan, Lu Beichen…”
Mu Ruo felt frustrated.
Why were this couple everywhere she went? It seemed like a curse for her to end up in situations related to the male and female leads no matter where she was. Was this a curse of becoming the villainess character? As she tried to escape the original storyline, it seemed like the storyline kept altering and trapping her in everything related to the main couple.
Eventually, it led her to disgrace, losing her wealth, status, and looks, with her friends suffering misfortunes and dying one by one. The story followed its original tragic ending.
“Thinking about that childhood sweetheart again?”
When Fu Jianzhi returned, he heard Mu Ruo mumbling about Lu Beichen. Seeing Mu Ruo’s current state, she seemed a bit dejected and sad, likely due to excessive longing and melancholy over the man.
Mu Ruo looked back. She was lying on the sofa, and from her low angle, Fu Jianzhi’s long legs encased in black trousers, slim waist, broad shoulders, and his deep, sculpted face that could pass for a male model were clearly visible.
Mu Ruo blinked.
Fu Jianzhi bent down and held Mu Ruo’s chin in his large hand. Her small face seemed even more delicate with his grip.
Fu Jianzhi smiled, “Living at your husband’s house while thinking of other men, isn’t that particularly enjoyable?”
Mu Ruo, “… It’s not that enjoyable. Brother, can you let go of my chin? You’re going to crush it.”
At her calling him “Brother,” Fu Jianzhi’s expression changed slightly, and he let go.
Mu Ruo, “There’s cake in the fridge. Do you want some? It’s a really delicious strawberry cake.”
“No, thanks.”
Mu Ruo suddenly remembered Butler Li mentioning Fu Jianzhi’s recent bad mood. It seemed to be true.
She followed Fu Jianzhi closely, like a little tail, and as he climbed the stairs, she quickly moved ahead of him, saying, “Look, do you like my outfit?”
Fu Jianzhi glanced at her.
Mu Ruo was wearing a new Miu Miu outfit, a very short top that tightly hugged her chest, revealing a slim white waist. The pleated skirt was above her knees, and her long, straight hair cascaded to her waist. Without any makeup, she looked like a high school girl just finishing evening classes.
Mu Ruo smiled brightly, “Thank you, big boss, for buying me clothes.”
Fu Jianzhi raised his hand and pinched her cheek, “Sleep with me tonight.”
Just as Mu Ruo was about to respond, her foot slipped unexpectedly, and she fell down the stairs, landing in Fu Jianzhi’s arms.
She was wondering how the classic trope of the female lead slipping had fallen onto her, and then with a “smack,” she ended up kissing Fu Jianzhi’s face.
Mu Ruo’s face turned white.
Would she be thrown out and become a pitiful abandoned wife for this unintended offense?
Fu Jianzhi’s face darkened.
Mu Ruo weakly explained, “I didn’t do it on purpose.”
He walked past her.
Mu Ruo continued to follow him, “Mr. Fu, I really didn’t mean it. I swear on the heavens, I respect you like my father, absolutely no—”
Before she could finish, Fu Jianzhi turned around with a cold smile, “Do you have such a young father?”
Mu Ruo, “No.”
Fu Jianzhi sneered, “I don’t have a daughter with such thick skin either.”
Mu Ruo, “Um… You’re not going to drive me away?”
“Deducting salary, two million.”
“Please don’t…”
