Boiled noodles without a trace of oiliness, with some dried vegetables added.
It was already a luxury to be able to eat noodles after nine years of natural disasters. If it weren’t for the high subsidies from the navy, it would really be impossible to eat.
Jiang Ning didn’t want to owe favors to anyone, so she took out six cold steamed buns and a box of pickled vegetables and dried bacon from her bag.
No matter what time it was, the instructor still had to be bribed.
Knowing that the two had earned sky-high points, Instructor Xu, though polite, didn’t stand on ceremony. After declining a few times, he took the buns and pickles to heat up. Everyone then sat down and began eating.
Jiang Ning felt quite embarrassed, “I didn’t realize we would be staying on a submarine, so I only brought two packs of dry noodles. I’ll make breakfast tomorrow. I’ll repay the food once we’re ashore.”
Instructor Xu smiled, “Don’t be polite. You spent a lot of points on the submarine, so our navy has to cover the three meals, even if they’re relatively poor. Just don’t mind that.”
Actually, it wasn’t covered. According to the purchase process and scheduling, they weren’t supposed to arrange a tutorial so soon. But since the higher-ups had given instructions, they had to make a temporary arrangement.
The urgent and hasty arrangement led to Jiang Ning not bringing everything needed.
But with the leaders’ instructions, food was not a problem.
The theoretical training lasted three days, and the course was very tight. Instructor Xu was very attentive. He not only made the boring professional technical operations vivid and interesting but also answered all the questions from Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen.
Regarding submarine driving, maintenance, and repair, how could three days of theoretical classes cover it? Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen came prepared and raised many problems that might be encountered in tsunami storms.
The questions were tricky and some were even more profound than those raised by professional submarine soldiers.
Instructor Xu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but he was very patient in answering the two people’s doubts.
Survival in a disaster was no joke. Besides eating, drinking, and other basic needs, Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen spent all their time studying submarines.
Knowing more may save your life in the future.
Instructor Xu initially had a good attitude towards them because of their connections but couldn’t help but complain inwardly. He didn’t expect them to be even more hardworking than the submarine army, and their comprehension was very high. He couldn’t help but look at them with new eyes.
It would be great if they were his own soldiers.
He wondered, “Why don’t you two join the military? The base needs planners like you for the fire seed plan.”
Jiang Ning smiled and explained, “We want to, but we have families to take care of.”
“Don’t worry about that. The base will be very good at arranging the family members.”
“I believe the base will arrange it, but we have been struggling outside for the past few years and have been separated from each other many times. If the disaster is inevitable, I hope that even if I die, my family can stay together.”
The base will settle the military families, but the soldiers have their own responsibilities and missions. When it comes to the time of retreat and escape, the family members can only make other arrangements.
What does separation mean?
Facing either death or endless partings.
In this big world, how many people get to experience a reunion?
Everyone has different choices. Instructor Xu didn’t say anything else but taught the two as much of his own skills as possible.
Whether soldiers or ordinary people, as long as they survive in a disaster, they are considered fire seed planners.
After three days of theoretical classes, practical training officially began.
The submarine started, it slowly dived into the deep sea, and traveled in the vast ocean…
Jiang Ning didn’t expect to have a day to drive a submarine. It was truly a rare sight.
After leaving the deep-sea dock, Instructor Xu stood by and began to give questions, and everyone lined up to take the test.
Diving, floating, standing still, turning around, avoiding ocean collisions, islands and reefs, giant creatures, etc.
During the theory, Jiang Ning asked as many questions as she could; during the practical operation, Instructor Xu threw all the questions at her, “Well, think about it carefully. How do you solve this problem? I’ve given the answer.”
There is still a big difference between theory and practice, but Jiang Ning’s memory is amazing, and her brain is fast enough. However, she has no experience and her hands and feet are not coordinated.
But Huo Yishen wasn’t just watching; he calmly assisted Jiang Ning.
Two heads are better than one, and they worked quite well together.
Instructor Xu was delighted to see his students excel. No wonder the two did so well in the apocalypse; their intelligence and courage were extraordinary.
Excellent!
It’s a pity they’re not serving the country.
Through the observation mirror, Jiang Ning saw countless creatures swimming in the ocean, including squid, octopus, sea snakes, sharks, glowing jellyfish, and many species she couldn’t name.
The blue ocean and the magical creatures were both spectacular and magnificent.
However, she also spotted other submarines, all belonging to the military base.
Jiang Ning stared at the creatures outside the submarine and frowned slightly. “Why do I feel like they seem to have grown bigger?”
Not only bigger but also much uglier.
Instructor Xu explained, “During the extreme heat, the polar glaciers melted, causing ancient viruses to flow into the ocean and pollute marine life. Many sea creatures not only grew larger but also became deformed and more ferocious.”
Once, I took students out to sea and encountered a bull shark. Not only did its size increase several times, but it also actively attacked the submarine. Its bite force was amazing. If the submarine hadn’t been made of special materials, it might have been destroyed.”
Not only sharks but also many marine creatures that were gentle before have become extremely ferocious now.
He told them about the dangers he had experienced in the ocean and how to avoid them. “Avoid them if you can. If you can’t avoid them, go into hibernation. Don’t attack them unless it’s a life-or-death situation, otherwise, their ferocity will increase exponentially, and the smell of blood will attract other creatures. It will be troublesome if the submarine gets surrounded.”
The submarine is tough enough, but it would be troublesome if the external equipment is damaged, such as the turbine.
After four days of repeated practice, the three of them had almost worn out the control panel, except for when they slept in the control room.
The time was short, but memorizing everything by heart was an advantage.
After countless operations, Jiang Ning could control it skillfully with her eyes closed.
The submarine traveled in the vast ocean for four days and finally returned to the deep-sea dock.
Coming out of the ladder, the sun shone on her face, and the warm wind blew, making her feel as if she were in another world. There were new submarines at the deep-sea dock. Instructor Xu looked at the sea surface. “Your submarines should be ready to launched.”
He took Jiang Ning and the others to the office area to inquire, and indeed a batch of new submarines was launched.
The staff retrieved the information from the system. “Jiang Ning, right? Your submarine number is 2688, parked at slot F in area C of the dock.”
After signing and providing their fingerprint, they received the operating password.
Instructor Xu led the them to area C of the dock, where they successfully located submarine 2688.
Jiang Ning breathed a sigh of relief. She finally had a submarine.
Whether in the sky or the sea, the equipment was top-notch, and only summoning a dragon was left.
If she couldn’t survive with this, she would have to accept it—it’s fate.
Entering the submarine, they adjusted the equipment and checked the facilities.
After the handover was complete, Instructor Xu reminded, “Your submarine is privately owned. If you need to dock at the base, you’ll need to open an account and pay fees at the work center.”
Jiang Ning nodded. “Thank you, but I want to practice in the sea again. I will open an account at the work center later.”
Instructor Xu taught them everything he could and said goodbye. “If you encounter any problems, you can contact us at any time.”
Jiang Ning shook hands and said, “Instructor Xu, let’s work hard together. I hope that when the disaster ends, we’ll have a chance to reunite.”
Instructor Xu was startled and smiled. “There will be a chance.”
After seeing them off, the two drove the submarine away from the deep-sea port and then quietly stopped in the ocean.
After seven days of grueling training, everyone looked tired and had lost a few pounds, even Coke was no exception.
So, it was time to reward themselves with a good meal: boiled beef, spicy shrimp, and stewed old hen soup.
The room was rearranged. Doudou and Coke shared a room, and Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen lived next door.
After washing from head to toe, she found the iron bed uncomfortable to sleep on, so she took out a seven-inch mattress from the storage and slept on the floor.
She thought she would fall asleep quickly, but she tossed and turned and couldn’t get any rest.
After seven days together, Jiang Ning could feel Instructor Xu’s enthusiasm. He really taught without reservation and also provided a lot of military survival knowledge.
After living two lives, how could she not realize that she was being specially cared for?
It was really strange, as if something had been off since entering the base.
Jiang Ning pushed the person sleeping next to her. “Is there really no surveillance on this submarine?”

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
