“Why so quiet? Am I causing you trouble by sitting here so suddenly?” Su Jiang took a sip of his drink and spoke quite considerately to Wu Chengren.
After Fugui informed him of Wu Chengren’s presence, Su Jiang had been observing Wu Chengren’s every move. He noticed that wherever he and An Rou went, Wu Chengren followed closely behind.
When An Rou returned to the An family, Wu Chengren stopped following and instead went to the nearby roadside stall to eat barbecue.
In Su Jiang’s eyes, this behavior was undoubtedly a good sign, indicating that Wu Chengren’s target was solely An Rou, and Su Jiang himself was being disregarded.
Being overlooked could make it easier for him to take Wu Chengren down.
Now, as Wu Chengren sat on a small stool facing Su Jiang’s question, he lifted his head slightly under the duckbill cap. His sharp eyes were filled with a murderous intent, not hiding it at all.
With his hands lightly resting on his waist, as if about to draw something, Su Jiang raised an eyebrow and casually said, “I advise you not to think about pulling out a gun to kill me right now. You know we’re not far from the An family here. Considering my relationship with them, if I were to die, especially at their doorstep, how do you think the An family would react?”
Upon hearing this, Wu Chengren’s hand froze for a moment. He then chuckled lightly, continued to pull out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, took one out, and offered it to Su Jiang.
“Care for a smoke?”
Su Jiang was taken aback, it turned out Wu Chengren was pulling out a cigarette, not a gun.
“Thank you.” Su Jiang smiled as he took the cigarette but didn’t light it. He dared not smoke a cigarette offered by an enemy.
Wu Chengren lit his cigarette and took a puff, then asked in a casual tone, “How did you discover me?”
“Secrets.”
“What do you plan to do now?”
Wu Chengren stared at Su Jiang intently and continued, “Take me to the An family? Or are you just here to give me a warning?”
Just as Su Jiang was about to respond, the boss brought over the grilled lamb skewers. Su Jiang quickly took them, tasted a bite, and found it quite delicious.
“You don’t need to be so nervous. Perhaps I’m just here for some barbecue?” Su Jiang said with a smile.
“Do you think I’ll believe that?”
“Alright, you need to tell me first, are you from the Feng family or the Lin family?”
Wu Chengren hesitated for a moment. The Lin family couldn’t be exposed at the moment, so the Feng family was undoubtedly the best cover.
Quickly, he responded, “Feng family!”
Su Jiang paused eating the lamb skewers, looked up at Wu Chengren, and shook his head with a gentle smile.
“You shouldn’t hesitate. So, you’re from the Lin family, and Lin Hui sent you?”
“I told you, I’m from the Feng family!”
“I see. Lin Hui doesn’t want you to expose your identity as being from the Lin family. Why?”
“This matter has nothing to do with the Lin family at all.”
“Isn’t your existence crucial? Are you a trump card for Lin Hui?”
Wu Chengren remained silent, feeling a cold sweat starting to form. He was now hesitant to speak.
The young man before him believed solely in his own judgment, disregarding anything Wu Chengren said, which only exposed more flaws for Su Jiang to exploit.
This reminded Wu Chengren of someone – An Mingjie!
At that moment, Wu Chengren’s heart was stirred with a thousand waves of shock. He realized that just like himself being Lin Hui’s trump card, Su Jiang was An Mingjie’s trump card.
Moreover, Su Jiang posed an even greater danger than An Mingjie, as An Mingjie was always in plain sight, but what about Su Jiang?
If Su Jiang hadn’t taken the initiative to approach him, would Wu Chengren have paid attention to this seemingly ordinary student? Or, would anyone in the entire city of Jiangdu have taken him seriously?
Wu Chengren’s thoughts had changed at this moment – Su Jiang must die!
If he left alive today, not only would the Lin family and himself be exposed, but the Lin family would also gain a formidable enemy.
After just a brief confrontation, Wu Chengren was certain – Su Jiang was not ordinary.
“Alright, knowing that you’re from the Lin family is enough.”
At this point, Su Jiang no longer speculated further. He quickly finished the remaining lamb skewers, stood up, clapped his hands, and pointed to Wu Chengren, telling the boss, “Boss, he’ll pay for my bill.”
Whether Wu Chengren agreed or not, Su Jiang left, feeling a bit pleased.
It turned out that feeling when someone else footed the bill was quite satisfying.
Wu Chengren stared at Su Jiang’s departing figure, downed his drink in one gulp, silently walked up to the boss, and settled the bill.
Afterward, Wu Chengren lowered his duckbill cap slightly and silently followed behind Su Jiang. He intended to kill Su Jiang in a secluded area.
As long as Su Jiang was alive, both the Lin family and himself would be in serious trouble!
As time passed, night was falling, and Su Jiang was still wandering outside. Wu Chengren continued to shadow him, occasionally taking cover to observe the surroundings. The streets were becoming emptier.
Suddenly, he saw Su Jiang getting into a taxi, and he immediately felt a sense of urgency.
If Su Jiang returned to the An family now, he would lose his chance.
Hastily stopping a taxi, Wu Chengren quickly got in and told the driver, “Follow the car in front, don’t lose sight of it.”
“Hey buddy, are you shooting a movie or something?”
“Quit the chatter, I’ll give you a hundred.”
“Alright, buckle up!”
The driver stepped on the gas, closely following Su Jiang’s taxi.
Wu Chengren watched as the vehicles moved ahead, feeling a slight relief. Fortunately, the taxi was not heading back to the An family.
He immediately frowned because Su Jiang’s car was getting further away from the city center, seeming to head towards the outskirts.
“What does he want to do?” Wu Chengren thought to himself. It was late to be going to the outskirts, and he wondered about Su Jiang’s intentions.
Nevertheless, this suited his plans perfectly. The outskirts were quiet at this late hour, making it an ideal time for him to act.
Shortly after, Su Jiang got out of the car by the roadside, holding his phone and texting someone.
Later, Su Jiang, within Wu Chengren’s sight, strolled into a dense jungle.
Wu Chengren felt a surge of excitement, quickly got out of the car, and gently drew a dagger from his waist, following behind Su Jiang.
He rarely used guns for killing because he enjoyed the feeling of a blade piercing flesh, a sensation that bullets couldn’t provide.
As the visibility dimmed, Wu Chengren’s figure gradually blended with the surrounding environment. He carefully adjusted his steps, calculating each one precisely to maintain the same pace as Su Jiang, suppressing the sound of his footsteps to avoid making any unnecessary noise that might alert Su Jiang.
Unconsciously, the distance between them continued to shorten – ten meters, five meters, three meters…
The distance was now close enough for him to launch a deadly strike.
“Now’s the time!”
Wu Chengren shouted in his mind, gripping the dagger tightly and swiftly swinging it towards Su Jiang’s neck in a lightning-fast and lethal motion.
The dagger, dyed darker by the night, seemed like a black lightning bolt cutting through the silent night sky.
As a seasoned assassin, Wu Chengren’s movements were swift and steady. The dagger’s trajectory was almost silent, leaving no room for defense.
However, to his surprise, just as Wu Chengren launched his attack, Su Jiang, who had his back turned to him, lightly smiled at the corner of his mouth.
In a surprising move, Su Jiang swiftly leaned forward and squatted down at an incredible speed and angle, cleverly avoiding the deadly strike.
At the same time, a long-forgotten system notification sound rang in his mind.
