Chapter 32: The Powerful Mermaid
Luo Sang’s cold and displeased voice made Fei Li nervous.
Last night, it was clearly Luo Sang who had insisted he stay here—could he have forgotten overnight?
The memory of being thrown out by Luo Sang still lingered, so Fei Li tried to appease him with a smile.
“I’m afraid I might dirty your white fur. I’d better leave quickly” so as not to upset you.
Just as he took a step forward, Luo Sang pulled him back.
Luo Sang transformed into his human form and looked down at Fei Li’s belly, saying, “Why hasn’t your belly changed at all?”
Change?
Suddenly remembering that he wasn’t actually pregnant, Fei Li quickly covered his stomach.
Would Luo Sang tear him apart if he found out the pregnancy was fake?
“I—I’m quite thin, so it might not show much,” Fei Li stammered, inventing an excuse.
Since Luo Sang didn’t understand childbirth, he didn’t question Fei Li’s explanation.
Gently placing his hand on Fei Li’s stomach, Luo Sang’s voice softened, “When are you going to give birth?”
Fei Li calculated the time and said, “In about six months.”
Luo Sang’s eyes darkened. Six months was a long time.
After letting go of Fei Li, Luo Sang immediately stood up. “I saw you teaching everyone to use fire to cook soup. Do you have enough salt?”
Only after being reminded by Luo Sang, Fei Li realized they were missing this crucial seasoning.
The salt they had brought from the seaside last time was only enough for a short period.
Now that everyone in the tribe had learned to cook soup, running out of salt would be a problem.
Should he ask for salt from Wu Yue?
Considering the tension between Luo Sang and Wu Yue, Fei Li hesitated.
Luo Sang took out some unused animal skins from the house and tossed them directly in front of Fei Li.
Fei Li looked at the animal skins in confusion.
“Although I dislike the mermaid, I can’t ignore our own tribe’s needs. The mermaid orcs live in the sea, which is damp and dark. We can trade these animal skins for salt with them.”
Fei Li was pleasantly surprised and approached Luo Sang. “You’re willing to trade fairly with the mermaids?”
Luo Sang gave him a brief glance and sat down on the floor.
As Fei Li arranged the animal skins, he quickly started a fire to cook.
He found that primitive society had its advantages. There were not too many worries, just only food and drink to focus on.
If he weren’t worried about running out of food, he would have liked to eat four meals a day.
After making a simple soup, he called Soma to join him for the meal.
After eating, under Luo Sang’s guidance, Fei Li and Soma went to collect unwanted animal skins from the tribe’s residents.
After they had gathered the animal skins, Fei Li and Soma followed Luo Sang out of the tribe.
The journey from the Wolf Tribe to the seaside took about half a day. After crossing a small hill, they arrived at the beach where the mermaid orcs lived.
This was Soma’s first time seeing the sea, and he couldn’t help but gaze at it for a while.
Fei Li stood by the sea and called out, “Wu Yue, Wu Yue, are you there?”
He called for a long time without any response from the calm sea.
Feeling embarrassed, he turned back at Luo Sang, wondering why Wu Yue, who had treated him as a friend before, was ignoring him now.
As the sun began to set and the evening sea breeze picked up, it became clear that spending the night there would be difficult for them due to their thin clothing.
Fei Li continued to shout but received no reply.
Luo Sang walked forward and transformed into his wolf form, roaring at the sea. The water parted, revealing a path.
Fei Li looked at the path in amazement. He didn’t expect that the underwater world in this primitive society would be so magical.
Luo Sang transformed back into his human form. “This is the path to the mermaid’s tribe.”
The three of them walked along the path towards the center of the sea. When they opened the door, it was like entering a new world.
This place was quite different from the Wolf Tribe’s settlement. The buildings resemble castles, and it was clear that this tribe was wealthier than the Wolf Tribe.
As the three of them continued walking forward, Fei Li and Soma noticed something strange.
Logically, since the people here didn’t need to work or do much else, why was there no one in the tribe?
Soma also sensed something was off and cautiously positioned himself in front of Fei Li. “Master, be careful. This place is strange.”
Luo Sang shot a cold glance at Soma and pulled Fei Li behind him. “I will protect my people myself.”
“….”
Soma thought to himself, ‘You are crazy!’
Suddenly, a strange sound emerged, causing Soma and Luo Sang to cover their ears in pain.
As a human, Soma was especially affected by the intense sound waves and squatted on the ground, distressed.
Luo Sang, with difficulty, looked at Fei Li and, seeing that he was unharmed, continued to cover his ears.
“What is this sound? Why are you both like this?” Fei Li asked in confusion.
A thin layer of sweat appeared on Luo Sang’s forehead, clearly troubled by the noise.
He turned to look at Soma, who was already rolling on the ground in pain.
Seeing the two in such pain, Fei Li felt helpless and could only worry anxiously.
There’s a sound of footsteps approaching from behind, and Fei Li immediately turned to see who was coming.
A tall mermaid orc approached, wearing clothes made of specially crafted fish scales and with a sinister smile on his lips.
“Who are you?” Fei Li asked, becoming wary.
Luo Sang steadied himself and wanted to reach out to pull Fei Li, but a stronger wave of sound hit them, causing Luo Sang to drop to one knee.
The mermaid orc squinted his eyes and looked at Fei Li with a strange expression. “What kind of beast are you? Why don’t you react to the mermaid’s sound?”
“What have you done? Stop it now!” Fei Li shouted at the mermaid orc without answering his question.
The mermaid orc laughed heartily. “No matter what kind of beast you are, anyone who intrudes into the Mermaid Tribe without permission deserves to die.”
As he said that, mermaid orcs unleashed a powerful roar.
Luo Sang and Soma were completely overwhelmed. Soma’s eardrum seemed to have ruptured, with blood seeping from his ears.
Luo Sang’s condition was much better than Soma but he was clearly struggling as well.
Looking at the mermaid with furious, Fei Li charged at the mermaid. “I told you to stop!”
The mermaid orc swiftly dodged and avoided Fei Li’s attack.
With a disdainful snort, the mermaid orc sneered at him with contempt, “You ignorant barbaric orc, you are no match with the mermaid’s noble blood. If you don’t want to die, take your companions and leave here.”
“Who are you? Where is Wu Yue?”
Looking around the vast Mermaid Tribe, it seemed there were no other mermaid besides the one in front of him.
What was happening here?
Hearing Wu Yue’s name, the mermaid orc looked down at Fei Li. “You know Wu Yue? What’s your relationship with him?”
“None of your business. Where is Wu Yue?”
The mermaid smiled, and didn’t hide the contempt in his eyes at all.
For the mermaid, other orcs and even other tribes were merely food in their eyes.
The ancestors of the mermaid orcs relied on the ocean’s abundant resources. They focused on cultivation and development, not on basic needs.
That’s why their tribe had castle-like buildings.
“Looking for Wu Yue? I can take you to him.”
As he spoke this, the mermaid orc gathered a layer of white light in his palm and shot it directly at Fei Li…
