“No problem.”
Su Jiang looked at the contract, then signed it directly.
Since he couldn’t understand it anyway, he trusted that such a large Inspectorate wouldn’t deceive him in the contract.
“Alright, we are colleagues now.”
Seeing Su Jiang sign the contract, Yang Ming stood up, shook hands with Su Jiang in a friendly manner, and said, “Let’s go meet the director now. I’ll take you to his office.”
“So soon?”
Su Jiang was taken aback. He didn’t expect to meet the director right after entering; it was beyond his expectations.
“Don’t be nervous, it’s just to answer a simple question. It’s nothing to worry about.”
Thinking Su Jiang was nervous, Yang Ming reassured him and led him upstairs.
Su Jiang followed behind, observing his surroundings and silently memorizing the layout of the entire building.
“We’re here.”
Yang Ming stopped at the door, and Su Jiang looked up. Above the door, a sign with five words was displayed.
Director’s Office.
Simple and straightforward.
“Knock, knock, knock!”
“Director Zheng, there’s a new employee here. I brought him.”
Yang Ming knocked on the door, but there was no response from inside. The two of them waited outside.
One minute passed, then two…
Yang Ming knocked on the door once and then stood expressionless. Su Jiang began to doubt if there was anyone inside.
Just as he was about to speak, a deep voice came from inside the room.
“Let him in.”
“Yes!”
Upon receiving a response, Yang Ming gestured for Su Jiang to open the door himself.
Creak~
Su Jiang pushed the door and walked in.
As Su Jiang entered the room, he furrowed his brows tightly. The room was filled with smoke, dimly lit, with only a sliver of light coming in through a partially open window.
A burly man with stubble all over his face sat quietly on the sofa, cigarette in one hand and a stack of documents in the other, studying them intently.
Under the light, half of his face was in the sunlight, while the other half remained in shadow.
“Have a seat.”
At the words, Su Jiang sat down without hesitation on the sofa opposite him and spoke first, “Director Zheng, hello, I am the new psychologist who just started today. My name is…”
“Su Jiang.”
Director Zheng’s interruption left Su Jiang stunned. How did he know his name?
Following that, Director Zheng spoke with a calm and low voice, “Su Jiang, in August this year, you were admitted to Jiangdu University’s Mathematics Department as the top scorer in the college entrance examination. You were taken in as a closed-door disciple by Zhang Yu, a professor in the Mathematics Department. Your father runs a decent restaurant back in your hometown…”
Su Jiang’s eyes widened, his gaze becoming incredibly serious. How did he have this information? And why investigate me?
But the next words from Director Zheng made Su Jiang break into a cold sweat, feeling as if he had fallen into an ice cellar.
“On October 10th, you confessed to An Rou, the eldest daughter of the An family in class, and that same night, you were kidnapped. Later, for some reason, you started to have a close relationship with the An family…”
“On the 17th, at the An family’s Club, you not only disabled the Lin’s Scar, but also used a gun to intimidate Lin Hui…”
“…”
“Last night, you and Li Cai from the An family blew up the Feng family’s weapons factory on the outskirts of the west side of Jiangdu, and pinned the blame on the Lin family.”
Director Zheng finished speaking in a calm manner, then set down the documents in his hand, slightly leaned forward, and stared deeply into Su Jiang’s eyes.
“With your background, why have you, a person of your caliber, come to my Inspectorate? What business do you have here?”
On the sofa, Su Jiang had completely lost his previous carefree smile.
He realized at that moment that he had oversimplified the situation.
An Jingjie had been careless as well!
They had both underestimated the Inspectorate.
No, they had underestimated the Inspectorate’s director, the middle-aged man with stubble sitting across from him now.
From the moment he stepped into the Inspectorate, all his information had probably been placed in the hands of this Director Zheng.
Damn it, Li Cai!
You never told me that there was such a formidable person in the Inspectorate.
Su Jiang took a deep breath, realizing that at this point, there was no use in fabricating any more lies. They would surely be seen through by the man in front of him.
So, he decided to be honest and said:
“I want to involve the Inspectorate to help the An family.”
“Why?”
“With the Inspectorate’s assistance, we can save a lot of time and reduce losses.”
“Why should we help you?”
“Isn’t it the Inspectorate’s responsibility to do so?”
“Hehe…”
At Su Jiang’s words, Director Zheng chuckled softly. He took a drag of his cigarette and calmly said, “The Inspectorate’s responsibility is indeed to control conflicts, prevent them from affecting ordinary people, and punish those families who use any means to expand their influence.”
“It used to be like that, but now…”
Director Zheng’s expression turned mocking and somewhat disdainful. “You saw it when you came in. This is the current situation within the Inspectorate. Do you think they still remember the responsibility you mentioned?”
“Do you think they will risk their lives against those powerful families just for the so-called responsibility you talked about?”
Su Jiang fell silent at his words, realizing that he had indeed oversimplified things.
“Go back, young man. Seeing how the An family has been keeping a low profile these years, I won’t hold you accountable.”
After Director Zheng finished speaking, he leaned back, blending into the shadows.
Su Jiang remained seated on the sofa, not leaving. With his skills in psychological analysis, he could sense something despite Director Zheng’s well-hidden demeanor.
That was Director Zheng’s dissatisfaction with the current state of the Inspectorate!
Knowing this, there was an opportunity.
“Director Zheng, what if I have a way to change the current situation of the Inspectorate?”
“Is it meaningful? Treating the symptoms without addressing the root cause is ultimately futile.”
“But taking action is better than doing nothing, isn’t it?”
“Hehe… Well then, tell me, how do you plan to do it?”
Su Jiang pondered for a moment and then shared his ideas. Throughout the process, Director Zheng remained silent.
After Su Jiang finished speaking, Director Zheng chuckled lightly and said, “Your idea is bold. If it’s true, it’s worth a try.”
Upon hearing this, Su Jiang knew the opportunity had arrived. Director Zheng was starting to waver.
“So, does this mean you agree?”
“No, I don’t agree.”
Su Jiang was taken aback and quickly asked, “Why not? This is a good plan. Although it’s a bit risky and comes with a high cost, it can indeed change the current situation of the Inspectorate in a short period, can’t it?”
Director Zheng shook his head lightly, extinguished his cigarette butt, lit another one, and looked at Su Jiang, saying, “Even if you succeed, then what?”
“If you succeed, the atmosphere at the Inspectorate will change, returning to the right path. They will start to realize their responsibilities and begin to do the work they should have been doing.”
“Then, after helping you and the An family deal with the Feng family, once the An family wins, who will you want us to help you deal with next?”
“The Lin family? Or the recently relocated Wang family?”
Su Jiang’s expression was filled with uncertainty and suspicion. He couldn’t figure out what Director Zheng truly wanted to convey.
“Go back, Su Jiang. If you don’t understand what I truly desire, you will never be able to persuade me.”
Director Zheng once again issued an order for Su Jiang to leave.
