Chapter 65: Hunting Target
Storing things? A space?
There had been talk of spatial abilities in the black box, and there was even a spatial mutant in S City.
This person could store items in his space and had originally been recruited by the safety zone in S City, where he was highly valued. Every team that went out to search for supplies would request his assistance.
However, during one operation, due to a delayed retreat, he was caught by zombies. When he died, everything stored in his space exploded out all at once around him.
Fu Jingmo’s cold face grew even more serious. This might not be a good thing. Although the incident in S City was not yet public knowledge and was classified in the black box to prevent unnecessary disputes, the event couldn’t remain a secret forever.
There were many people involved in that mission, and it’s possible that other mutants were present in the vicinity. It was unlikely to stay hidden.
Once everyone becomes aware of this, in a world where resources are so scarce, spatial mutants would inevitably become prime targets for those with ill intentions.
After all, killing one person could yield an enormous amount of supplies.
Lin Mu hadn’t expected that telling Fu Jingmo about his ability would result in such a serious reaction instead of excitement.
“What’s wrong?”
Fu Jingmo leaned forward, his body bent as he looked at Lin Mu. “Don’t tell anyone about this—no one.”
Lin Mu hadn’t planned on spreading the word anyway. In this apocalyptic world, any special ability could become a vital lifeline at critical moments, but he wanted to know the reason behind Fu Jingmo’s warning.
“Why?”
After explaining his reasoning, Fu Jingmo looked into Lin Mu’s amber eyes and emphasized once more.
“Even though your abilities differ from those of normal mutants, no one will care to understand that.”
After understanding the reason, Lin Mu also realized the gravity of the situation. In the apocalypse, moral codes and rules had long ceased to exist, and evil was becoming more rampant. Killing someone no longer carried any consequences.
If his spatial ability were discovered, and someone with ill intentions set their sights on him, they wouldn’t care that his ability was linked to Xiao Yuan. They would only see him as a walking treasure trove of supplies, ripe for the taking, even if it meant killing him.
“I understand. But as long as no one finds out, at least we can secretly gather some supplies. Then we won’t have to worry about food in the future.”
Fu Jingmo nodded, finally allowing a familiar smile to cross his face. “Yes, as long as no one discovers it, it’s a good thing.”
It seemed that the tree linked to Lin Mu was even more valuable than they had imagined. Perhaps in the future, it would reveal many new abilities.
When he first encountered Lin Mu in that small courtyard in Jiaoshan, he never imagined that he had found such a treasure.
After discussing these serious topics, Lin Mu couldn’t help but feel excited. In such an apocalyptic world, gaining more power was the most thrilling thing.
He took the cup he had just stored out again and felt the warmth in his palm. Lin Mu blinked and thought to himself —hmm, it seemed the water hadn’t cooled down.
“What do you think, can Shen Rangchen be trusted?”
Fu Jingmo pondered for a moment. “For now, yes.”
“Alright. By the way, I can grow things in the space. I want to go out and gather some supplies to bring in, and maybe find some vegetable seeds or something similar.”
Now that they had the space, gathering supplies became a necessity, and Fu Jingmo didn’t argue against it.
“Alright, let’s wait until tomorrow. You should rest for a day.”
After finishing their discussion about the space, the two fell into silence.
The scene of Fu Jingmo telling him to get off the bus suddenly came to Lin Mu’s mind. He realized that he might still be angry about it, but the excitement of discovering his spatial ability had made him forget.
He was still lying in bed, but Fu Jingmo’s chair was right next to it, his long legs stretched out, making it inconvenient for Lin Mu to get up.
Lin Mu felt a bit awkward, and just as the atmosphere was becoming increasingly uncomfortable, his stomach let out a loud growl.
…
…
Fu Jingmo raised his eyebrow and looked at him, with a smirk that made him look like he was asking for a punch. Seeing Lin Mu awake seemed to have lifted a weight off his mind.
“Hungry? Get up.”
He retracted his long legs and turned to leave the room first.
Lin Mu rubbed his stomach and climbed out of bed, his mind inexplicably recalling the strong heartbeat he had heard close to his ear on the bus. And a faint blush spread across his face.
It seemed he was starting to find Fu Jingmo a bit difficult to understand.
