Bound to the Monster Chapter 17

Chapter 17 : No Disdain

Upon learning that Ji Yu had woken up, Xu Xiujue and the others came to see her.

Ji Yu was sitting on a couch by the window, holding a cup of medicinal tea in her hands, and she smiled as she looked at them. She asked, “Is everything alright ?”

Zuo Lingshuang replied with a smile, “We’re fine, just some minor injuries.”

She was the leaderof the Demon Hunter Alliance, known for her stunning beauty and considerable strength. She was also seen as the next successor to the Demon Hunter Alliance, expected to take over when the old leader retired.

Ji Yu had a good impression of her. Although they hadn’t met often before, she had heard many stories about Zuo Lingshuang.

Starting her career at fifteen, she exterminated the troublesome demon python in the Wei River at seventeen. Over ten years, she had dealt with countless demons and protected numerous people, gaining immense prestige among the common folk.

Even the court had a high regard for her.

Xu Xiujue gazed at her pale face and asked, “Ji Yu, how is your health?”

“I’m fine,” Ji Yu replied gently. “Thank you all for your concern. It’s actually an old problem. With some rest, it will get better.”

She spoke with an air of calmness and ease. If they hadn’t seen her spit blood with their own eyes, they might have almost believed her.

Chen Qingfeng and the others felt a pang of discomfort in their hearts.

Before meeting her in person, they had thought that the reputation of Ji Yu being the beautiful young master of the Ji family was exaggerated for prestige, and that nothing else about her was not worthy.

However, after spending time with her and witnessing her actions over the past few days, they realized how wrong their previous impressions had been.

Despite her frail health and the label of being useless, she had never held them back, and even during intense battles, she never distracted them with her condition.

She endured her pain without showing it, never making others worry about her. The resilience and composure she displayed were remarkable.

No wonder the Ji family protected their young master so carefully, and Hongxiao and the others truly admired her.

She was indeed worthy of respect.

Even Chen Qingfeng couldn’t help but sincerely say, “Young Master Ji, please take care of yourself.”

Ji Yu smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Daoist Chen, for your concern.”

Then they talked with Ji Yu about the chaos caused by the demons at Yanyue Villa.

“We later investigated the underground palace. We suspect that the demons in Yanyue Villa’s underground palace are related to the thousand-year-old corpse demon from the Longquan Underground Palace,” Zuo Lingshuang said with a serious expression. “There are too many similarities between them. However, by the time the thousand-year-old corpse demon emerged from Longquan Underground Palace, it was already quite developed, whereas the demons in Yanyue Villa’s underground palace are not yet fully formed. If we had died here and been devoured by it, helping it increase its power, by the time it emerged, it might be as powerful as the thousand-year-old corpse demon from Longquan Underground Palace…”

Ji Yu’s expression grew serious.

She understood what Zuo Lingshuang meant, they suspected that the thousand-year-old corpse demon in Longquan Underground Palace might also have been served by humans.

Just as the demons in Yanyue Villa’s underground palace were served by the entire Villa’s effort.

If this were the case, then the chaos caused by the thousand-year-old corpse demon from Longquan Underground Palace might have had a human puppet driving it from behind.

The uncertainty remained whether it was driven by humans or demons.

Xu Xiujue looked at her with concern, his face showing pain. “Ji Yu, are you alright?”

He knew that Ji Yu’s mother’s death was related to the thousand-year-old corpse demon in Longquan Underground Palace. If it weren’t for the corpse poison, she might not have died from exhaustion right after giving birth.

Chen Qingfeng and Zuo Lingshuang also thought of this.

Ji Yu came back to herself, her expression softening slightly, though her tone remained calm. “It’s nothing. Thank you for your concern, Senior Xu.”

Just then, Jiang Shiqiu entered carrying some tea treats and glanced at them meaningfully.

He approached Ji Yu, smiling. “Wife, I made some lotus pastries. Try them.”

Saying that, he eagerly picked up a beautifully crafted lotus pastry from the box and offered it to her.

Ji Yu: “……”

The three people who had been chatting with Ji Yu widened their eyes in surprise.

Master Jiang made these himself?

They glanced at the delicate pastries in the box. From afar, they looked like real lotus flowers, so lifelike that they could be mistaken for the real thing. His skills were impressive.

They hadn’t expected Master Jiang to have such excellent culinary skills.

Seeing his overly earnest demeanor, they had become numb.

The memory was too vivid, recalling how he had joined the Ji family to marry the young master, and now this earnest display seemed quite fitting.

The three of them had intended to say something more to Ji Yu, but seeing this, they decided it was best to leave and discreetly excused themselves.

Ji Yu felt a bit embarrassed. She wasn’t used to being too intimate with others, especially in front of outsiders and with a man.

“What’s the big deal? We are husband and wife,” Jiang Shiqiu said with conviction. Then he suddenly became cautious, “Wife, you’re not unhappy with me, are you?”

Ji Yu was puzzled. “Why would I be unhappy?”

He looked disapointed, and his beautiful face seemed to have lost some of its color. “Of course, it’s because you’re unhappy with me being a non-human… unlike Xu Xiujue, who is a normal man…”

Ji Yu was speechless. Why was Xu Xiujue being dragged into this? What did he have to do with this?

“I’m not unhappy with you,” she said sincerely. “You’re outstanding in appearance and strength. Any normal person wouldn’t be dissatisfied with you! Besides, we managed to survive thanks to you.”

She wasn’t the type to discard someone after using them. Just because he was a demon didn’t mean she would deny his actions.

People often say that humans and demons cannot coexist, but in her view, as long as a demon isn’t causing harm to the world, it’s quite similar to a human. There’s no need for excessive hostility or to force it into oblivion.

You can be cautious, but there’s no need to be too harsh.

Jiang Shiqiu was still holding the lotus pastry, his eyes fixed on her with burning intensity. “Really, you’re not unhappy?”

“I’m not unhappy!” Ji Yu affirmed.

He handed her the lotus seed pastry. “Wife, since you’re not unhappy, please eat it.”

Ji Yu: “……”

To prove she wasn’t unhappy with him, Ji Yu had no choice but to open her mouth and eat the lotus  pastry he offered.

After finishing the pastry, she still didn’t quite understand the connection between not being unhappy with him and eating the food he offered.

Did eating it really prove that she wasn’t unhappy with him?

Seemingly unaware of her confusion, Jiang Shiqiu continued to feed her with a smile, watching her cheeks puff out as she chewed, and playfully poked her puffed cheek with his finger.

Ji Yu looked at him in confusion, not understanding his intentions.

“You’re truly adorable, wife,” he said openly. “I love you even more now.”

Ji Yu fell silent again.

Her ears turned slightly red. She couldn’t get used to someone constantly speaking such affectionate words.

Right, he wasn’t human, he was a demon.

Did all demons enjoy speaking sweet words like this?

Soon after, the demon hunter came to bid farewell to Jiang Shiqiu.

Jiang Shiqiu was actually quite impatient with them, but given his current role as the Commander of the Demon Division in the imperial city, he didn’t want to shed this identity just yet. Thus, he couldn’t refuse and had to meet with them.

Seeing the dark expression on his face, Ji Yu stood up and said, “I’ll accompany you.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Shiqiu’s face lit up with a smile, radiant and stunning, his demonic aura becoming even more apparent.

He didn’t look like a good person at all.

Ji Yu accompanied Jiang Shiqiu to meet the demon hunter.

The demon hunters were all respectful, thanking Jiang Shiqiu for his assistance and indicating that they would leave Yanyue Villa early the next morning.

Since it was already late, they decided it would be best to stay another night rather than risk traveling in the mountains overnight.

They then brought out the items they had found in Yanyue Villa for Jiang Shiqiu to review.

There were many rare treasures and magical items from Yanyue Villa.

However, Jiang Shiqiu didn’t show any interest, waving his hand lazily. “You all can divide them among yourselves.”

Ji Yu glanced at the items on the table and felt a bit disappointed.

“Wife, is there anything you want?” Jiang Shiqiu asked, turning to her.

Ji Yu first shook her head, then said, “I heard that Yanyue Villa has a Celestial Blood Lotus. I came here specifically for it.”

Since Yanyue Villa had long since fallen into the clutches of demons, it was likely that such a sacred item as the Celestial Blood Lotus had already been ruined.

Jiang Shiqiu was taken aback, then smiled and said, “Since you want it, I’ll find one for you.”

Ji Yu: “……Thank you, but there’s no need to go to such trouble.”

He waved his hand grandly, “What trouble is that? My wife’s business is my business.”

Ji Yu had nothing more to say.

Not only was Ji Yu stunned, but the demon hunter who had been eavesdropping were also taken aback and then felt envious.

If it had been someone else, they might think he was boasting. However, as the Commander of the Demon Division in the imperial city, Jiang Shiqiu’s words carried weight and implied he had the means and resources to back them up.

And indeed, this was not an unreasonable thought.

With Jiang Shiqiu overseeing things, the demon hunters harmoniously and amicably divided up the items they had retrieved from Yanyue Villa before bidding farewell and leaving.

Chen Qingzhe walked slowly at the end, and even when he followed the Chen family disciples out of the guest courtyard, Ji Yu didn’t even look at him. He immediately became so angry that his face turned blue.

“What’s the matter?” Chen Qingfeng asked, giving him a pat.

Chen Qingzhe snorted, “Using one’s looks to charm someone. Love fades as beauty withers. I wonder how long she can captivate Jiang Shiqiu.”

For some reason, he was full of vigilance towards Jiang Shiqiu. He always felt that he shouldn’t be like this. It should be… He didn’t know what it was. Chen Qingzhe couldn’t help feeling a little confused.

Chen Qingfeng said, “You have a prejudice against Ji Yu, which leads you to be prejudiced against Jiang Shiqiu as well.”

He felt some helplessness, knowing that Chen Qingzhe’s temperament had been overly indulged by their aunt and Shang Yunxiao, leading to a lack of discernment between right and wrong. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have treated his half-sister so harshly, endangering her.

Ji Yu, on the other hand, seemed indifferent to him, too lazy to bother with him. Otherwise, given Jiang Shiqiu’s unpredictable nature, he might not have just harmed him but might have taken his life outright.
