Chapter 7: Because I Didn’t Admit It
A cold voice came from behind Leo, and Leo directly ignored it, as it was impossible for them to be scolding him.
“Brat! Get out of my way! You’re blocking my path.”
He was standing right in front of the counter, so it was impossible for him to block anyone else’s way.
“Brat! I’m talking about you!”
With the noise buzzing in his ears, Leo impatiently looked over.
A boy with blue hair was staring at him with a cold gaze.
That look was proud and indifferent, making others seem as insignificant as ants in his eyes.
This kind of gaze was how most nobles looked at commoners; compared to other nobles, Angie, who could talk to him so much and even offer him help, could be considered an anomaly among nobles.
Leo recalled the gaze of the duke’s daughter, Delisa, which was just as cold and proud, like an eternal ice that could never melt.
He hated this kind of gaze.
Delisa was a woman; even if she scolded him for being a commoner, he could let it slide, as he wouldn’t have to deal with her in the future anyway.
As for this guy, he didn’t know where he popped up from.
From the previous conversations of the crowd, it was likely that this was the super freshman, Yuris.
A guy, why should I tolerate you?
So what if you’re a genius? Are you better than me?
As long as he had a sword in hand, he wasn’t afraid of anyone.
“Brat! Who are you cursing at?”
Leo stared back at him without any politeness, his aura even sharper than Yuris’s.
Yuris looked slightly surprised, not expecting Leo to speak to him like that.
“Of course I’m talking about you, now move aside.”
“First come, first served, don’t you understand?”
“According to the rules, I currently hold the title of viscount, which is different from you so-called noble offspring who aren’t true nobles yet; you should give way to me.”
“Always bragging about being a noble, is it interesting? It’s just hypocritical glory. I hear them calling you a super freshman, a genius in swordsmanship, but I see nothing special.”
“Are you looking down on me as a noble?” Yuris’s expression darkened.
“I never said that; you said it yourself, noble sir!”
Leo wore a disdainful smile, unable to hide the sarcasm in his eyes.
The tension between the two was palpable, and the air grew heavy.
“What to do? What to do? They won’t actually fight, right?”
Angie watched the scene, flustered, her actions coming to a halt.
“Leo, that’s Yuris, very powerful, don’t provoke him anymore.”
She whispered a reminder in Leo’s ear.
“Who is that person, daring to go against Yuris?”
“Looking at this poor appearance, he must be a commoner.”
“Now there’s a good show to watch; he’s also a first-year freshman, probably some dissatisfied one deliberately provoking Yuris.”
“Truly unaware of the heights of heaven and the depths of the earth, as a commoner, daring to provoke a noble, especially Yuris, a disciple of the Sword Saint.”
The world is not short of onlookers; people nearby gathered to watch the drama unfold.
“What’s going on?”
The crowd parted, and a nobleman with long golden hair walked over.
“It’s Fromm, the vice-captain of the Empire’s Sun, he’s here.”
“Encountered a little accident,” Yuris replied.
Others whispered in Fromm’s ear, and he quickly grasped the situation.
“I heard you were the one actively provoking Yuris. Being a commoner and disrespecting a noble is a serious crime; have you realized that yet?”
Fromm looked calmly at Leo, not angry, but exuding a powerful sense of oppression.
“How strong! This pressure, no wonder he’s the vice-captain of the Empire’s Sun.”
“To be foolish enough to provoke Yuris, a member of the Empire’s Sun, your days ahead will not be easy.”
Bystanders were gloating.
Leo looked coldly at the other side, “No wonder you’re a noble, so domineering; you think it is what it is, but don’t provoke me, or I’ll let you see how a commoner acts.”
Entering the Nidlan Academy was like walking on thin ice; one misstep could offend a noble and get kicked out, or even lose one’s life.
Leo had long been mentally prepared for this.
He recalled his carefree life over the past ten years; if he had to say what he couldn’t let go of, it was only the old man. But the old man’s strength was even more terrifying than his, so there was no need to worry. With his physique, living a few more decades was not a problem.
So now, he decided to act according to the behavior of this group of people and would not suppress his true nature.
At this moment, Leo was like a beast released from its cage, ready to pounce.
In the tense atmosphere, a silver-haired girl wanted to step forward but was pulled back by her companion.
“No!”
Suddenly, a voice broke the heavy silence.
Leo turned around, surprised to see Angie, who had just spoken up.
“It was Yuris who provoked Leo!”
This voice was like a heavenly sound, pulling Leo out of the impending quagmire.
“It was Yuris who first cursed Leo as a brat and told him to get lost; if we’re talking about rudeness, it’s Yuris who is rude. Leo is just resisting; with such arrogance, I refuse to acknowledge it as the behavior of a noble.”
Angie seemed to have used all her strength to shout.
Her gaze was extremely firm, showing no regret for speaking out.
Yuris looked dumbfounded, unable to believe it.
Strange? How did things turn out like this?
Brat is actually a curse?
Haven’t I always said to get lost?
Why did the maids at home get excited and run away when they heard me say that?
And was I really that arrogant just now?
Hasn’t it always been like this? No one else said anything.
Shouldn’t this be the attitude towards commoners?
How should one interact with beings like commoners?
Aren’t commoners and nobles of the same race?
Yuris’s mind became chaotic, feeling that his worldview had been greatly impacted, as if it had suddenly shattered.
“Interesting, you can handle this matter yourself; I believe you will manage it well.”
Fromm understood and quickly left.
“Let’s duel! To wash away the humiliation you brought me.”
Everyone around was watching; as a noble, one couldn’t show weakness. Yuris took off his gloves and threw them in front of Leo.
In any case, to apologize, he had to subdue him with a sword first; otherwise, he wouldn’t listen to him properly.
Leo couldn’t understand where this inexplicable sense of vanity came from, so nobles were indeed a group of incomprehensible beings.
“Too troublesome, does a duel benefit me?”
He had been exposed to public view long enough; he didn’t want to become famous right at the start of school, no matter in what aspect.
“Leo, you should agree first, and then consider the outcome afterward,” Angie advised from the side.
“No, I’m definitely going to win. If I defeat the super freshman Yuris, more trouble will come my way; this is a battle I must lose.”
“Are you so sure you’ll win? That’s Yuris, a disciple of the Sword Saint, a recognized genius in swordsmanship!”
“Not recognized,” Leo pointed at himself, full of confidence, “because I didn’t admit it.”
Ridiculous!!
Angie was shocked; what is up with these geniuses! Are they all this proud?
“Thank you, Senior Angie!”
Leo painfully pulled out one of the only five gold coins he had and held Angie’s hand, placing it in her palm.
“You were willing to stand up and speak for me; it really helped a lot.”
“This is what I should do, but why did you suddenly call me senior, and what’s this? Why are you giving me gold coins?”
“This is the most valuable thing I have; consider it a reward for speaking up for me.”
“I didn’t speak up for a reward; take it back, give it back to me!”
Angie felt like her dignity had taken a thousand points of damage.
“No, I don’t want to owe anyone a favor; this is all I have. If you can’t accept it, then don’t treat it as gold coins, but as a regular round metal item with some value.”
Angie’s expression was blank; this person might have a bit of a problem.
