Huo Yishen wasn’t speaking carelessly; rather, the blue whale was covered with countless parasites—whale barnacles.
Due to an ancient virus, the size of these whale barnacles had multiplied which makes them even more harmful to the blue whale.
With a rare chance to get rid of the itch, the discomforted blue whale couldn’t resist rubbing against the submarine. It’s trying to scrape off those barnacles.
So, the blue whale rubbed and rubbed, and the submarine retreated and retreated.
But the whale just wouldn’t let go; it just kept on pestering.
After being shaken for more than half an hour, Jiang Ning was successfully rocked to the point of dizziness, so she closed the observation window and stored both herself and the submarine in the space.
Time was precious, and she didn’t dare to stay in the space for too long. After staying for more than ten minutes, she estimated that the blue whale had left, so she went back into the sea.
Who knew that in less than five minutes, the submarine started shaking again.
That damned familiar feeling—could it be that the whale had fallen in love with her submarine?
Jiang Ning tried several times, but the blue whale was infatuated and refused to move its backside away.
Let it be; since she couldn’t resist, she chose to relax and enjoy.
After being rubbed for more than two hours, the world finally quieted down.
After waking up from a nap, Doudou opened the observation window.
Huh? Why was it dark?
She went back to check the time and saw it was only three in the afternoon.
The ocean was strange, so she quickly knocked on her brother and sister-in-law’s door.
There’s no peace of mind any day; Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen couldn’t be careless and quickly got up to check.
It was indeed dark outside; they couldn’t even see their hands in front of them.
The observation window was made of several layers of sturdy special glass, so the quality shouldn’t be a problem, or the seawater would have flooded in long ago.
Doudou climbed up to observation window No. 2, and it was still dark outside.
Jiang Ning remembered that there was observation window No. 3 at the tail of the submarine and hurried over to check.
There was no problem; the light shone through the sea, and there were fish swimming leisurely outside.
So, the three of them and the dog stared at the window and even enjoyed an afternoon tea.
For two full hours, there was still no movement outside.
Huo Yishen speculated, “Perhaps some creature is attached to the front of the submarine.”
A medium-sized submarine has a considerable front area—how large a marine creature would that have to be?
Jiang Ning thought she’d wait until nightfall when Doudou was asleep, then store the submarine in the space to see if this strange thing could survive without seawater.
She was really curious about what kind of entity was wrapped around the submarine.
Unfortunately, before it got dark, the mysterious creature outside moved.
It slowly moved away, and light began to seep in.
Golden, flowing… hair strands?
Very long and there’s a lot.
Jiang Ning was surprised and quickly took out her phone to record.
It looked like yellow carnations, blooming in layers, with countless fine tentacles like hair growing on it.
As it drifted further away, the tentacles wrapped around the submarine continued to sway, extending up to several dozen meters.
The top resembled a hemisphere, and it seemed to have a glowing light bulb inside.
It turned out to be a glowing jellyfish.
If you look closely, the shape is very beautiful, with graceful movements. The tentacles dance elegantly in the water.
If one didn’t know better, they might think it was an advertisement for shampoo.
After the glowing jellyfish left, Jiang Ning went back to her room to look up information.
She had downloaded a lot of information before the disaster, and she actually found out that it’s the lion’s mane jellyfish.
With tentacles extending for over 30 meters, it looked beautiful, but it was extremely poisonous. A careless encounter could be deadly.
So, the first day at the bottom of the sea passed with some excitement but no real danger.
But Jiang Ning never expected that the blue whale would come to scratch its itch again the next day.
This time, it didn’t scratch its backside but its head instead.
Affected by the ancient virus, the blue whale’s temperament was no longer as docile as before; it scratched with a fervor that made it seem like it wanted to peel off its own skin.
This time, it scratched for two or three hours. Jiang Ning really couldn’t stand it anymore. She was really afraid that the submarine would be scratched by it one day.
So, after it left, she decisively moved away.
Hmph, can’t hide and can’t provoke? Then Goodbye!
However, Jiang Ning soon realized who has the final say in the ocean.
The whale managed to find the submarine again and started rubbing it without a word.
Jiang Ning was speechless and depressed, “…” What a sin!
Doudou, on the other hand, was delighted and even named it “Lan Lan.”
Jiang Ning consoled herself, thinking that Doudou was just too lonely.
Fortunately, Lan Lan was really just scratching its itch.
Living on the seabed is also good, they could enjoy various marine creatures through the observation window, like spider crabs and mola mola.
Especially the mola mola, which seemed to be a professional in playing the victim.
Despite clearly colliding with them, it lay on its back in the water, unwilling to get up.
It was almost as if it was saying, “Unless I get eighty to a hundred thousand today, don’t expect me to get up!”
Doudou was dumbfounded, “Brother, why doesn’t it get up?”
Huo Yishen explained, “Don’t look at how long it is, but it is clumsy and not good at swimming. It often becomes the prey of fierce marine carnivores or gets caught in fishing nets or lies on its side on the sea and drifts with the wind. That’s how it got its name.”
Doudou suddenly realized and stroked its head through the glass, “I think it’s quite cute.”
It was indeed cute, in a funny sort of way.
However, while Doudou indulged its behavior, sharks didn’t show any mercy and bared their sharp teeth to attack.
The mola mola struggled but still couldn’t get up.
The seawater soon turned bloody, and the mola mola hit the submarine while struggling.
Perhaps its clumsiness reminded Doudou of the days when she was a child living under someone else’s roof. She couldn’t bear to see the mola mola being slaughtered. She subconsciously felt a surge of sympathy but realized there was nothing she could do.
Seeing the sadness in his sister’s eyes, Huo Yishen quickly closed the observation window, “In fact, the ocean is another world for humans, with the same survival of the fittest. To protect yourself, you have to become stronger.”
You see the mola mola as pitiful, but big fish eat small fish, and small fish eat shrimp. If it didn’t eat other animals, it wouldn’t have survived to this day.”
Doudou thought about it and couldn’t refute what his brother said.
“You should take this as a lesson. When you see someone in need, don’t act impulsively but think carefully, observe more, and consider deeply.
Even if you decide to help, you must evaluate your own abilities to ensure that you don’t put yourself or the others in danger.”
Huo Yishen didn’t want to turn his sister into a cold-hearted person, but in the dark end times, balancing kindness was tricky. She needed to have a clear and independent thinking.
Doudou nodded, understanding that her brother and sister-in-law were protecting her.
There are some things that need to be thought about. Doudou didn’t open the observation window for two days.
Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen would sit in front of the window from time to time, either drinking a cup of coffee or flipping through magazines to pass the time.
One day, as Jiang Ning casually looked up, she spotted a gray-black shape in the distance.
Jiang Ning observed through her binoculars and found out that it was another submarine, which was identical to their own.

Please bear with me if I didn’t update right away 😅. I was either buried in work 💼… or buried in rereading the book 📖. (P.S. Most of the time I’m rereading it 🤭—so you know just how good the story is! 🌟)
