Chapter 1 Return to Pregnancy
“Do you know what you’re saying?”
Her Grandma looked incredulously at her grandson kneeling straight in front
of her.
Yuwan looked at the scene in front of her, momentarily unable to come back
to her senses.
She lowered her head to look at her swollen belly, only then did she realize
she had returned to the past.
It was now her second year in the Anding Hou Mansion, six months pregnant,
when her husband came back and caused a scene about wanting a divorce.
An Shaoyu spoke firmly, “Grandson has met the true love of his life. In
the past, I thought as long as a woman was gentle and virtuous, matched our
family background, anyone could be my wife. Now I understand, truly moved, no
matter what her background is, no matter what obstacles she faces, I only want to
spend my life with her.”
“Grandmother, please grant my wish.” An Shaoyu kowtowed heavily.
“Nonsense!” her Grandma was trembling in anger.
Seeing Yuwan’s dazed look from the corner of her eye, she walked over and
patted her hand, “Yuwan, don’t be afraid, I won’t let this little brat
mess around.”
Then she said seriously, “if you like that woman, bring her into the
mansion. Why bother with a divorce? You’ve been away from the mansion for
months, Yuwan is pregnant, her husband is not by her side, it’s already very
difficult. When you come back and cause a divorce, have you ever thought about
how Yuwan will cope after the divorce? How will the Anding Hou Mansion explain
to the Shu family?”
Yuwan sighed in her heart. Grandma still didn’t know how determined her
husband was.
Looking at An Shaoyu at this moment, she saw a hint of guilt on his face,
but more of it was determination.
“It’s my fault for Yuwan. I will personally go to the Shu family to
apologize, no matter how they punish me, whatever demands they make, I will
accept.”
Grandma, seeing her grandson’s unyielding attitude, couldn’t contain her
anger any longer and angrily said to An Shaoyu, “Shaoyu, Yuwan is
pregnant. You come to ask for a divorce. How do you think you snothould be
punished?”
“No punishment is enough.”
“You have two older brothers ahead of you, your parents and I have
always pampered you, never asking you to bear the burden of the family’s rise
and fall, only wanting you to be happy. But you’ve been too willful, even if I
don’t agree to the divorce, your parents won’t agree, don’t even think about
it.”
Yuwan listened to his grandma scolding, her thoughts drifting.
In the previous life, indeed, no one agreed, including herself.
She was pampered by her parents and older brothers since childhood. An
Shaoyu, chosen by her mother as her husband, came from a good family,
outstanding character, handsome appearance, and was the youngest son in the
family, so she didn’t have to bear the responsibilities of a main wife when she
married him.
After they got married, the couple’s relationship was good. She was finally
pregnant, eagerly waiting for her husband to come back to share the joy with
him.
But as soon as her husband returned, he hurriedly came to Grandma place to
ask for a divorce.
She felt as if thunder had struck on a clear day and was very angry at the
time, saying, “Could it be that my husband’s mind has been clouded! Having
an affair without any formalities, establishing a private relationship with
another man, and even instigating that man to divorce his legitimate wife, a
woman without morals and boundaries, even if she is taken in as a concubine, I
will not allow it!”
At that time, An Shaoyu couldn’t tolerate anyone disrespecting that woman
even a bit. Hearing this, he looked at her with a cold gaze and said,
“It’s my fault towards you. Please don’t insult her. In my heart, she
deserves the best of everything. I am unwilling to let her be a concubine.
Being a concubine would truly disgrace her.”
Later, things escalated. Her mother-in-law, Lady Anding Hou, sent an old
nanny to scold Zhao Qing Qing severely at the Zhao family.
In the Shu family, her two older brothers were so angry that they blocked An
Shaoyu on the street and gave him a good beating.
Anding Hou even threatened that if An Shaoyu insisted on divorcing and
marrying that merchant’s daughter, he would no longer be considered his son,
Anding Hou Mansion would only recognize her as the daughter-in-law, and the Shu
family was very satisfied with Anding Hou Mansion’s attitude.
Everyone in both mansions thought that An Shaoyu would just cause some
trouble for a while and then return to the Hou Mansion. The legitimate son of
the Hou Mansion, who had never suffered, how could he possibly leave the Hou
Mansion and go with a merchant’s daughter? But they didn’t expect that he would
actually leave with Zhao Qing Qing.
It wasn’t until seven years later, when the Fifth Prince ascended the
throne, that he reappeared at Anding Hou Mansion.
At that time, An Shaoyu no longer felt the helplessness and guilt he had
seven years ago, only full of pride and disdain, “Back then, you didn’t
want a divorce. Now, you have no say in it. But rest assured, after the
divorce, I will leave you a courtyard in this Anding Hou Mansion for the sake
of our daughter.”
By then, after waiting for seven years, she had given up on this man.
Hearing this, she proudly said, “Rest assured, since we’re divorcing, I
won’t linger in Anding Hou Mansion. Now that you already have two sons and a
daughter, I will take my child back to the Shu family.”
An Shaoyu left with a light laugh.
At that time, she never expected that before the divorce, the Shu family
would be raided, her father and brothers all exiled, her mother and two
sisters-in-law, along with the children, struggling in the capital.
Her daughter was still young at the time, so even though she was extremely
resentful, she dared not stop trying to live.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t control her body, and gradually collapsed in the
days of depression.
Now, she could almost see her ten-year-old daughter crying by the bed, her
child sitting by the sickbed every day, holding her hand, about to call out
“mother” in a while, afraid that if she called out “mother”
at any time, there would be no one to respond.
Unfortunately, she let her daughter down, and in the end, she couldn’t hold
on.
“Husband.”
Yuwan spoke up, and Grandma stopped scolding, turned and held her hand,
saying, “Good child, don’t be angry.”
Yuwan smiled at Grandma’s comforting words.
Turning back, she asked, “Miss Qing Qing, as a merchant’s daughter,
theoretically, becoming a concubine wouldn’t be too much of a hardship. But if
my husband feels wronged, then it is wronged.”
“However, now, my husband already has me, the legitimate daughter of
the Shu family, six months pregnant, as his wife. Asking me to give way to Miss
Qing Qing for my husband, neither Anding Marquis Mansion nor our Shu family will easily agree.
Miss Qing Qing can only have my husband’s
recognition, be engaged as a wife, and remain a concubine. I wonder how my
husband plans to handle this?”An Shaoyu furrowed his brow, pondered for a long time, and only said,
“In any case, I will be with Qing
Qing, and I will give her everything she deserves.”
Yuwan naturally believed in his determination, after all, she had witnessed
it.
But what he deserved, sounded somewhat ridiculous to her, “When my
husband speaks of what is deserved, does he mean the position of the legitimate
wife that I currently hold? When he says ‘in any case,’ does he mean at any
cost?”
An Shaoyu remained silent, but his expression clearly revealed the answer to
everyone.
Yuwan touched her belly, her daughter was now inside, which was wonderful.
Yuwan smiled gently, “Since my husband values that lady so much, it
seems that she must have exceptional qualities. Now that I am my husband’s
wife, I naturally don’t want to make things difficult for him. If my husband
wants a divorce, I will comply.”
“However, a woman returning home after a divorce, especially during
pregnancy, may lead others to think I have committed some serious mistake.
Although we all know the reasons now, it may be hard to explain later.
Therefore, I would ask my husband to write a notice, stating that he found true
love and didn’t want to mistreat his beloved by making her a concubine, hence
the divorce. And make several copies to post around the capital. This way, when
I return to the Shu family, there won’t be too much gossip.”
“Furthermore, to avoid affecting my husband’s relationship with his
beloved, the child in my belly will need to be raised by my side. What does my
husband think about this?”
Before An Shaoyu could respond, Grandma exclaimed, “Absolutely not,
Yuwan, you are pregnant, go back and rest, let me talk to Shaoyu
properly.”
Yuwan obediently agreed, “Yes, Grandma, I will take my leave.”
