Chapter 63: A Journey at a Moment’s Notice
Michelle stood by the water’s edge, her hands clasped in front of her chest, making a gesture of prayer.
A gentle breeze carried messages from afar, and Michelle opened her eyes, revealing a hint of disappointment.
“How is it? Can you sense anything?”
Leo asked from the side.
Michelle shook her head, “We’re very far from the Holy City of Eirland, and even the Capital can’t be sensed. It could be at the border of the Empire, or even in another country.”
Leo was somewhat surprised that they had teleported so far.
Unable to sense a specific location, Michelle’s teleportation magic couldn’t be used, and they could only move through the large teleportation array in the town.
Teleportation magic cannot be used to transport to places one has never been, unless someone equally skilled in teleportation magic is there to assist, but they couldn’t contact anyone from the church now, so assistance was out of the question.
“Then let’s find a place where people live first.”
Leo said, “As long as we find signs of life, we can figure out where we are.”
“Yeah, it’s getting late now, let’s find a place to rest nearby.”
Night was about to fall, and the sky grew dim.
The moon rose, casting silver light upon the earth, draping the world in a thin veil.
With the cool moonlight as their guide, the two walked through the woods, the occasional roar of beasts making the already dark forest feel even more eerie and terrifying.
Surrounded by desolate mountains and wilderness, it seemed they would have to sleep outdoors tonight.
The two moved cautiously, avoiding the nearby monsters, and arrived at the foot of a mountain peak. Michelle placed her hand on the rock wall, which automatically parted to form a cave, and then they walked inside.
Soon after, a dirt wall appeared on the ground, blocking the cave entrance, leaving a gap for ventilation.
In the dark space, Michelle took out her staff, which floated in the air, releasing light to illuminate the small cave.
Then, Michelle took out a tent from her skill space and placed it on the ground.
She stood in front of the tent, looked at Leo, blinked, and her face flushed slightly.
“Today is an exception; you can come in too.”
Sleeping in the same tent as the Saintess?
Leo was somewhat taken aback; although it was tempting, he shook his head, “I’ll sleep outside.”
Such matters should still have boundaries. He had been casual before, but there was no real impact. However, sharing a space with a girl was ultimately inappropriate.
“Youโre tired now and need to rest well.”
Michelle insisted, pulling his hand towards the tent, “Look, the space inside is quite large, enough for three or four people.”
“And if you dare to make a move on me, I will teach you a lesson.”
The Saintess made a fist with her small hand, pretending to threaten him.
“Alright then.”
The space was indeed large. Leo took out his bedding; his small villa had been destroyed, and he hadn’t bought a new one. The tent he had used before was the team’s property and had to be returned after use.
Leo had no extra thoughts and lay down directly, falling asleep in no time, his breathing becoming even. He had really exhausted himself today.
Listening to his breathing, Michelle let out a sigh of relief. Letting a boy into her tent was a first for her, and even though she trusted Leo, she felt a bit nervous.
She put her staff away, plunging the surroundings into darkness, and lay down as well.
The night passed without a word.
The next day, the morning sun rose, bringing vitality to the world.
After a whole night of rest, Leo’s fatigue was swept away, and his spirit was mostly restored.
Facing the morning sun, Leo stretched lazily, feeling refreshed.
“I haven’t practiced swordsmanship in a while; I should swing my sword ten thousand times first.”
Leo felt an itch to practice and took out his sword, swinging it continuously.
Michelle walked out of the cave, sunlight shining on her fair cheeks, her silver hair shimmering with a brilliant glow. She closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth of the sun, serene and peaceful.
She quietly sat on a nearby rock, her figure graceful, like a goddess in a painting, watching Leo practice his swordsmanship.
After finishing his training, Leo wiped the sweat from his face.
“I really admire you for working so hard at a time like this.”
Michelle remarked, feeling a bit emotional. Although Leo was very strong, it was all accumulated over time.
“Training doesn’t depend on time or place.”
He looked around, “We should set off; there shouldn’t be a single person around here. Which direction should we head?”
“That way,” Michelle pointed in a direction, “that’s towards the Empire.”
From the rising sun, she could determine the direction, and Michelle knew where the Empire was.
“Since we know the direction, that’s good. We’re very far from the Holy City of Eirland. Why don’t we just walk back and have a spontaneous journey?”
Crossing most of the Empire for an adventure and experiencing various places in the Empire was a rare opportunity, and Leo felt a bit excited.
“That won’t do; we still have to deal with the cultists. There’s no time to waste; we must find a magic teleportation array to go back.”
“That’s true, so let’s act quickly.”
As soon as Leo finished speaking, a “cooing” sound came from beside him.
“Strange? What bird is calling?”
He looked around.
“Not me…”
The Saintess immediately covered her face, her cheeks turning crimson under her small hand.
Leo instantly understood and smiled slightly, “Just right, I’m hungry too. Let’s find a prey to roast and let you taste my true culinary skills.”
“I’ll help with the hunting.”
“Sure.”
The two moved around, standing on a small hill, spotting a group of monsters in the distance.
“It’s a charging pig. Although it’s not as delicious as a tusked pig, it has more chewiness. Let’s move.”
Charging pigs were very fast. Leo took out his hunting bow and easily shot one, causing the other charging pigs to scatter in all directions.
Michelle rushed over, quickly taking one down beneath her feet.
“Are you preparing dinner? One is actually enough,” Leo said.
“Is it enough? You haven’t fully recovered yet; you need to eat more,” Michelle said seriously.
“I think I’ve already recovered, and even if I haven’t, I don’t eat that much.”
Leo felt a bit embarrassed; he couldn’t eat that much anyway. He didn’t want to relive the black history of Yuris.
“It’ll be fine; I can finish it,” the Saintess said confidently.
Thinking of Michelle’s gluttonous nature, Leo nodded, “Then let’s roast both; it’s a rare opportunity, so let’s use different methods.”
“Are there different ways to roast meat?”
The Saintess asked curiously, like a well-behaved child who didn’t understand.
“Of course, let me show you.”
Leo took out his set of utensils. Although it looked like a pile of junk to others, to him, it was a treasure that could create delicious food.
He skillfully skinned one of the charging pigs, removed the entrails, and then cut the meat into small pieces, skewering them with sharpened branches.
He lit a fire and placed it over the flames to roast.
For the other pig, he removed the hair and entrails, washed it, and rubbed it with a bunch of spices, without any further processing.
The only problem was that the charging pig was too big, and there weren’t enough spices.
“Wait here for a moment; I’ll go find some more.”
After all, his spices were all made from wild plants, and he could find some with a careful search.
During the time he was looking for spices, he asked Michelle to help create an earthen stove with her magic. Michelle complied, having never seen this method of roasting meat and not knowing what the earthen stove was for.
Soon, when Leo returned, he brought a bunch of assorted fruits and leaves, ground them into powder, and applied them to the charging pig, marinating it for half an hour.
At this time, Leo handed the roasted meat pieces to Michelle.
“Delicious!”
Michelle rested her chin on her hand, showing a content expression.
Leo lit the fire in the earthen stove, and after the flames died down, leaving behind glowing charcoal, he placed the marinated whole pig inside to roast and then sealed the earthen stove.
In about one to two hours, it would be ready to eat.
Michelle watched Leo’s series of actions and felt it must be very delicious, her eyes almost sparkling with excitement.
“Saintess, you’re drooling.” Leo teased.
“Eh? Really?”
Michelle’s small face instantly turned red, and she quickly covered her mouth, puffing out her cheeks, looking at him with a resentful gaze, “You’re lying! I didn’t drool.”
The Saintess’s reaction was too cute, and Leo couldn’t help but want to tease her.
