Chapter 203: Taken Away by the Police

The key to the drawer in the brigade headquarter was only held by the captain and the secretary. The captain now feared that Luo Qiao might think he and the secretary were doing this on purpose.

The captain looked at the secretary and asked, “What about the money?”

The secretary replied, “We’ll cover it from the brigade funds first and deduct it from my family’s year-end bonus later.”

The captain quickly wrote the introduction letter, took fifty yuan from the accountant, and asked his wife to accompany Luo Qiao to the city.

They took the afternoon bus. Nowadays, people don’t go to the hospital unless they are seriously ill. Upon arriving at the hospital, Luo Qiao registered and told the women’s leader to sit and wait on the bench in the corridor.

It was the women’s leader’s second visit to the city, and she wasn’t familiar with the hospital, so she obediently waited in the corridor.

Initially, the doctor checked Luo Qiao’s external injuries and was about to prescribe some medicine, but Luo Qiao requested a full examination. The doctor seemed a bit displeased with her request.

When they returned to the village, there were still people in the brigade headquarters. Seeing the women’s leader and Luo Qiao return, the captain asked, “How did it go?”

The women’s leader handed over the diagnosis report. The results showed: multiple soft tissue contusions and a mild concussion, with a recommendation for hospitalization.

The women’s leader said, “Luo Qiao is very considerate. Knowing there were no serious issues, she didn’t want to waste money on hospitalization, so she hurried me to catch the bus back.”

The captain and the people in the village committee praised Luo Qiao for being sensible, trying to save money for the secretary’s family.

The women’s leader asked, “Where is the secretary?”

When everyone heard this question, their faces turned grim. It turned out that Zhang Qiaoyan, realizing her actions had been exposed, had fled. Being just a young girl, she thought she could hide out at her grandmother’s house for a while.

She believed that since Luo Qiao wasn’t seriously hurt and her father was the secretary, at worst, they would just have to compensate her. However, this was clearly attempted murder, which couldn’t simply be brushed aside.

The police officer had given the secretary a chance to bring his daughter back. When he finally found Zhang Qiaoyan at her grandfather’s house, she refused to return with him, accusing him of being power-hungry and willing to sell out his daughter to remain the village secretary.

The women’s leader asked, “And Zhang Qiaoyan?”

The secretary sighed, “She was taken away by the police.”
