Chapter 58: The White Lotus Press Conference
What is a White Lotus Press Conference?
She had only heard of press conferences before.
Wait a minute!
Lu Yu looked at the glowing Bai Ruoruo and the camera crew following her. It was still makeup time, nowhere near the live broadcast, but Bai Ruoruo made such a big show of bringing the camera crew in.
Ah, she instantly understood what a White Lotus Press Conference meant!
Bai Ruoruo walked up to Jiang Mi with an uncontrollable smile. “Mimi, congratulations on setting up your own personal studio. You won’t have to worry about being exploited by the company anymore.”
“Your congratulations only bring me bad luck. Take it away, thanks.”
Jiang Mi never uses sarcasm when she confronts people.
Bai Ruoruo’s smile faltered, and she was secretly annoyed. How dare she act so arrogant when her reputation online was so poor? But, the more Jiang Mi confronts her, the more it helps her portray Jiang Mi as an arrogant, domineering person. It also earns her some sympathy.
Bai Ruoruo’s eyes reddened slightly, her voice soft and aggrieved. “Mimi, I’m really happy for you. Most people who fight with their companies over contracts end up paying penalties, but you’re amazing, managing to make the company pay you instead.”
Though this sounded like praise, every word was a veiled insult, suggesting that Jiang Mi was using her connections and capital to oppress the small company.
Lu Yu was infuriated. “Do you not understand what ‘penalty’ means? It’s because they breached the contract that they have to pay Mimi!”
Bai Ruoruo seemed a bit taken aback by Lu Yu’s fierce reaction, her eyes filling with tears. “That’s not what I meant. Many stars are exploited and bullied, and even if they know the company is at fault, they still end up paying penalties to the company. So, Mimi, you’re really impressive.”
This statement was even more direct.
Bai Ruoruo implied that although the company breached the contract, Jiang Mi managed to make them pay compensation, suggesting that it was because Jiang Mi had powerful backers.
Lu Yu was about to retort fiercely when Jiang Mi’s cold, detached voice cut in. “Bai Ruoruo, are you disrespecting the law?”
Bai Ruoruo was stunned for a moment, but quickly regained her composure. “How could that be? Our country’s laws are fair and just. I definitely didn’t mean to disrespect the law. Mimi, don’t twist my words just because you’re still mad at me.”
In the end, she habitually shifted the blame to Jiang Mi.
Jiang Mi raised an eyebrow, her eyes gleaming with a hint of frost. “If a company breaches a contract, according to the law, they should pay penalties. But you suggest that I used connections and capital to make them pay, isn’t that disrespecting the law?”
[A contract is meant to protect both parties’ rights. Whoever breaches it should pay penalties, as per the law. It has nothing to do with behind-the-scenes capital.]
[If anyone says Jiang Mi is bullying others because of her background, I won’t believe it. She clearly uses her mouth to continuously fight back and educate others!]
[Bai Ruoruo’s sarcastic remarks and Jiang Mi’s direct response—true sincerity is always the ultimate weapon!]
[Is it really true? Even without evidence, just by some verbal exchanges, people believe it? The previous company has already released a video of their lawyer threatening to demand compensation!]
Currently, there was a lot of online buzz. Jiang Mi’s lawyer had only verbally threatened the previous company to compensate for mental distress, without presenting any evidence.
Bai Ruoruo was initially startled by Jiang Mi’s sudden legal threat but soon calmed down.
If Jiang Mi had real evidence, she would have demanded triple compensation based on the breach of contract terms, not just compensation for mental distress.
So, Jiang Mi must not have any evidence.
Bai Ruoruo thought this and became more confident, pretending to be concerned for Jiang Mi.
“Mimi, nowadays, you need evidence to make claims. Otherwise, you might be sued for defamation.”
“Oh, and why haven’t you gone inside?” Jiang Mi asked in return.
Bai Ruoruo didn’t understand. “Go where?”
Jiang Mi curled her lips into a malicious grin. “To prison. With your constant accusations, sarcasm, and slander, you should spend ten or eight years in a sewing machine to fix that mouth of yours.”
Using Bai Ruoruo’s words against her.
Instantly, Bai Ruoruo’s face turned pale with anger, her eyes glaring at Jiang Mi. “I was only trying to remind you to speak with evidence, or you might suffer someday. Since you’re not appreciative, then forget it.”
Bai Ruoruo said this and pretended to be dejected as she prepared to leave.
“Evidence, huh?” Jiang Mi stretched out her voice, a lazy, interested smile curling her lips. “Of course, I have it.”
