Chapter 14 Retrieving the Dowry
Upon hearing this, Shu Yuwans’ eyes lit up. After being reborn for so long, the burden on her heart finally eased a bit.
With the return of the letter from, she had severed ties with the Anding Marquis Mansion. At least in this lifetime, she wouldn’t die in the secluded courtyard of the Anding Marquis Mansion!
She had successfully separated from An Shaoyu, ensuring that he wouldn’t have to rely on marrying Zhao Qing Qing to secure his position. She truly hoped that An Shaoyu and Zhao Qing Qing could have a successful marriage.
Seeing the visible relaxation in Shu Yuwans’ expression, Tang couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry. How could her younger sister, who had endured so much in the Anding Marquis Mansion, find joy in leaving?
So she spoke even more gently and lovingly, “Third sister, now that you’re back home, we sisters can be together more often. When your child is born, we can all help take care of you. You have nothing to fear!”
“Yes, little sister, both your eldest sister and I have had children. We have experience, so we’ll be here to accompany you. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can always talk to us.” Zhou added.
“Thank you, eldest sister and second sister!” Shu Yuwan smiled gently to them.
Shu Yuwans didn’t expect both her sisters-in-law to accept her return.
The eldest sister-in-law was always dignified and generous, gentle in nature. While she was grateful, she wasn’t entirely surprised.
But she hadn’t expected the second sister-in-law to be so accepting as well!
Originally, she had planned to move out after giving birth to her child.
She didn’t want to cause trouble in the family. She preferred to live with her parents and loved ones!
“Thank you! This is your home, we are all family!”
Seeing Yuwans’ happy expression, Zhou’s heart softened.
“You just returned today, there may still be many things to organize. We won’t disturb you further.”
Tang and Zhou got up to leave.
Yuwan escorted the two sisters-in-law to the door.
“No need to see us off, go back inside.”
“We’ll come see you again tomorrow!”
After seeing off the two sisters-in-law, Yuwan took the letter, read it over several times, and then solemnly put it away.
The next day, Qing Dai and Mother Zhao returned after counting Yuwans’ dowry.
“Miss, everything has been brought back without missing a thing!”
“Good, thank you! You didn’t rest much last night, did you? Take a break for now, come over to my side later.”
“Thank you, Miss!” Mother Zhao and Qing Dai replied promptly.
They then reported on the dowry inventory.
“We counted everything overnight, and the people from the Anding Marquis Mansion were very unhappy! Madam Wei Shi came over to stop us once, wanting to remove the people counting the dowry, but we presented the madam’s order and brought our own people to count at our residence!”
Shu Yuwans nodded.
“Also, after you left yesterday, Madam Wei Shi took disciplinary action against Shaoyu!”
“Since the separation has been completed, it’s no longer my concern.”
“I feel relieved hearing that!” Qing He, who was listening to Mother Zhao, couldn’t help but gloat.
Yuwan nodded at Qing He, then turned to Mother Zhao and Qing Dai, saying, “Mother, Qing Dai, go back to rest in your rooms. Everything is as it was.”
“Yes.”
Yuwan lay down on the beauty couch, reminiscing about the events of her previous life.
To save the Shu family, she couldn’t rely solely on her separation from An Shaoyu to change the final outcome.
The Shu family had always been loyal to the emperor, following the emperor’s orders. The legitimate son of the main wife, the crown prince, was the recognized heir to the throne by the Shu family.
Her eldest brother was the crown prince’s companion reader.
So in the previous life, after the fifth prince ascended the throne, the Shu family became the former prince’s old retainers to the new emperor. In addition, An Shaoyu provided people to the fifth prince, and Zhao Qing Qing provided money.
Although An Shaoyu took half of the tiger tally from the his Father, he was able to bring the troops from Jingzhou to the capital. Looking back now, it was likely that the his father secretly supported him.
It seemed that the Master wasn’t truly supporting the crown prince but was hedging his bets!
As for Zhao Qing Qing, this woman was indeed extraordinary. The Zhao family was originally just an ordinary merchant family, wealthy but not outstanding. After Zhao Qing Qing took over the Zhao family, she introduced many new things, such as making ice in summer and growing fresh vegetables in winter, various fresh snacks, and so on…
During the years she spent in the Anding Marquis Mansion, she often heard about the new products introduced by the Zhao family, which gradually became popular among the nobles in the capital and even made their way into the palace. The Wei Shi family had no choice but to compromise, and the Anding Marquis Mansion gradually began using them.
These products were unique to the Zhao family, expensive yet popular. Under Zhao Qing Qing’s management, the Zhao family grew and became extremely wealthy.
These later became the support for the fifth prince’s ascension to the throne!
In this life, without her as the original wife standing in the way, An Shaoyu could happily grow old with his true love Zhao Qing Qing. But as for assisting the fifth prince’s ascension, that was out of the question!
Shu Yuwans carefully pondered the current situation. The crown prince, being the legitimate son of the main wife, was deeply loved by the emperor and had always been close to the Shu family. Her eldest brother was the crown prince’s companion reader, and her father had always been a loyalist, supporting the emperor’s decisions. Since the emperor had chosen the crown prince, it was only natural for the Shu family to support him, and her father wouldn’t go against that.
The fifth prince was still young and hadn’t had a chance to make his moves yet. As long as the crown prince was vigilant, the situation would be different.
If the crown prince ascended smoothly, the Shu family would naturally not repeat the fate of the previous life.
