Chapter 17 Mountain Ginseng
The next day, Shu Yuwan had someone send over a few books.
Yuwan took a look and saw a copy of “Zizhi Tongjian” and “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu, which pleased her. She would take them out to read when she had free time.
“Miss, you’re in the later stages of pregnancy, reading carefully might strain your eyes,” Madam Zhao advised.
“I’ll read a little less for now, Mother Zhao, don’t worry.” And she smiled gently at her.
In her previous life, Shu Yuwan always felt protected by her parents and siblings, as long as she was happy, even learning embroidery, music, and painting, it was with the idea of not wanting to be at the bottom among the elite ladies in the capital.
Now, she not only had to help her parents and siblings to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past life but also had to support and pave the way for Qing Dai!
Every morning, Yuwan would take a walk in the garden, then come back for breakfast. In the morning, she would read “The Art of War” sent by Shu Yuwan, and in the afternoon, she would sew clothes for her baby with Qing Dai and Qing He.
Not long after picking up the needle and thread, Qing Dai reminded her, “Miss, take a break, you might strain your eyes.”
Yuwan tactfully put down the needle and thread. Otherwise, not only Qing Dai but Madam Zhao would also come to nag at her, and if her mother found out, she would scold her too…
In the past, she would have felt uncomfortable and constrained by such days.
Now, she felt extremely happy, only hoping that these people she cared about would always be by her side nagging.
Since returning from the separation, Shu Yuwan had not left the Shu family.
Over the years, she was no longer as carefree as she used to be.
And now she was eight months pregnant, estimating that she would give birth in about a month. Yuwan did not want any more trouble.
Yuwan lay resting on the Empress’s couch when a young maid from the outer courtyard, Lu Yi, came in with a box.
Lu Yi greeted Yuwan, “Asking if the Miss is well.”
“This is mountain ginseng sent by the Crown Prince of Ning, the Madam instructed me to bring it to you.”
“The Crown Prince of Ning?” Yuwan asked curiously.
Lu Yi explained with a smile, “It is said that the eldest son was looking for aged ginseng outside for a long time and happened to meet the Crown Prince of Ning. The Crown Prince of Ning said that their family happened to have a hundred-year-old ginseng bestowed by the Emperor, so he gave it to the eldest son.”
“I see.” Yuwan’s confusion was cleared.
“I don’t necessarily have to use such good ginseng. It wouldn’t be right for my brother to owe someone a favor for no reason.” There was never much interaction between the Shu residence and the Crown Prince of Ning’s residence. Both the eldest son and the Crown Prince of Ning were heirs of their respective families, so the eldest son owing someone a favor was not a matter between the young masters.
“The Eldest Young Master is also worried about you. The previous time the Eldest Madam gave birth was dangerous, so the Eldest Young Master is just being cautious,” Lu Yi was very considerate.
It seems that the Eldest Brother was frightened when the Eldest Madam gave birth.
When the Eldest Madam gave birth to Qing’s brother, it was very dangerous. After giving birth to Qing’s brother, the Eldest Madam focused on taking care of her health in the following years and did not have any more children.
At that time, she had not yet married into the Anding Marquis’s Mansion, but she had witnessed it.
She accepted the mountain ginseng.
The feeling of being cared for and valued by family is truly wonderful.
“Thank you for making the trip, Lu Yi,” Yuwan said softly.
“Doing things for you Miss is my pleasure,” Lu Yi smiled.
Although the Miss has returned from the separation, the Master’s wife and the young masters still dote on the Miss a lot. They all see it and dare not make trouble.
The next day when Shu Yucheng came, Yuwan mentioned this matter and expressed her gratitude, “Big brother, thank you for taking the trouble to find ginseng for me.”
Shu Yucheng eyes softened, “We are siblings, no need for thanks.”
“I heard that this ginseng was bestowed by the Emperor to the Crown Prince of Ning’s residence. If it is not used, please return it later, such good ginseng is indeed rare!”
Shu Yuwan indulged, “Alright, I’ll listen to my little sister.”
“This ginseng is to thank the Crown Prince of Ning. I only helped him with a small favor before, but he is so helpful this time, not as stingy as the rumors say,” Shu Yucgeng sighed.
“It turns out it was the good karma you had with the Crown Prince of Ning before. I always thought there was no relationship between our residence and the Crown Prince of Ning’s residence. How could they give us such good ginseng?”
“But what exactly did you help the Crown Prince of Ning with?”
Shu Yucheng smiled and lifted his gaze, “I promised the Crown Prince of Ning not to disclose it.”
“Alright!”
“Now I’m even more curious!” Yuwan said playfully.
“Curiosity can be endured…” Shu Yucheng finished speaking and left.
After Shu Yuwan left, Yuwan’s expression turned serious.
Speaking of the Crown Prince of Ning, in the previous life, although she was in the rear courtyard, she had heard of his tragic end.
Just as the Fifth Prince ascended the throne, the Crown Prince of Ning’s residence was found to be in rebellion, and the entire family was executed.
No one knew why the Fifth Prince hated the Crown Prince of Ning’s residence so much, disregarding the ancestral teachings and insisting on wiping out the entire family of the Crown Prince of Ning’s residence.”
