From Cradle to Courtroom Chapter 27

Chapter 27 Mother-Daughter Private Conversation

“How is it?”

Madam Shu, seeing the expression of her husband, knew that it should be a very good result.

But she still asked.

“The Emperor said that from now on, Wenyue will be recorded in the Shu family genealogy!”

“Great!”

“The Emperor’s words are like gold, let’s see who dares to gossip behind our backs in the future!”

During these days, many families in the capital talked about the matter of recording Shu Yuwan’s child in the Shu family genealogy. When they met some official’s wives, those who were not on good terms would insinuate a few words in private.

She didn’t mind.

Who doesn’t have some unpleasant things to spread around?

Even the two daughters-in-law, as well as other daughters and daughters-in-law of the Shu family, after hearing it for a long time, it was inevitable that they would harbor resentment towards Shu Yuwan.

Now that the Emperor has spoken, it can be considered a breath of fresh air!

Madam Shu began to praise her husband again: “With my husband around, it really puts one at ease!”

“What a sweet couple, I heard my parents whispering sweet things again!”

Shu Yucheng’s voice came from afar.

Madam Shu felt embarrassed for her son and scolded, “You little brat, what nonsense are you talking about!”

“Don’t make your mother angry!” Shu Jin Yi, said sternly.

Shu Yucheng was not afraid: “I was just praising the good relationship between my parents!”

The couple of Shu Yucheng’s parents did have a good relationship. Over the years, there had been no concubines in the house, and all four children were legitimate.

Shu Yuyang and Shu Yucheng, influenced by their father, both devoted themselves wholeheartedly to their wives.

Therefore, the family was very harmonious.

“Father, Mother, I have decided to go to the Zhuying Academy to study!”

“Oh? Didn’t you say that even if you were beaten to death, you wouldn’t go?” Shu Jin Yi, mocked.

“It was my fault!” Shu Yucheng apologized solemnly. “In the past, I was not stable. Now, that I have decided to study well for the future! To pass the exams, and to protect my wife, children, and my younger sister.”

Madam Shu’s eyes turned red when she heard this.

” It’s good that you’ve come to terms with it.”

“I will write a letter to Mr. Jiang of the Zhuying Academy, and he will handle your enrollment when the time comes.”

“Thank you, Father!”

“Well! Don’t embarrass me!”

“Father, rest assured! Your child won’t disappoint you.”

After saying this, Shu Yucheng left the main courtyard.

Madam Shu was really happy today, with double happiness: ” Yucheng has finally come out.”

Shu Jin Yi, also felt emotional: “I thought this child would live like this for the rest of his life.”

“Yucheng looks carefree, but he actually knows everything in his heart. He is feeling sorry for his sister and wants to support her in the future.” Madam Shu smiled.

“That’s the best. I’m getting old too. If Yucheng enters the officialdom, in the future, the two brothers can support each other.”

Shu Yucheng returned to his own courtyard.

Zhou was playing with Yuan.

Shu Yucheng went over, picked up Yuan and spun her around, making Yuan laugh happily.

Zhou didn’t stop them, letting the father and daughter have fun.

After Shu Yucheng had enough fun with his daughter, he let the nanny take Yuan away.

“When will my husband leave?” Zhou was somewhat reluctant.

“Not decided yet, waiting for father’s message.”

“You don’t want me to leave?” Shu Yucheng joked as he looked at Zhou.

Zhou was not hesitant either, “I do feel a bit reluctant, but it’s good that my husband is willing to progress.”

Eldest Brother is studying alongside the Crown Prince, and he passed the imperial examination and is now a compiler in the Zhuying Academy. On the other hand, her own husband, after passing the provincial examination at a young age, had not taken the exams again.

She didn’t know why, but her parents-in-law didn’t urge him, they all said to go along with her husband. She didn’t want to say much either.

Now that her husband wanted to progress on his own, it was naturally a good thing.

“When my sister comes back, I promised you that I won’t let you and Yuan suffer.” Shu Yucheng held Zhou’s hand.

“When I’m away at home I want you my love to take care of Yuan and my sister. I’m counting on you, my wife.” As he gently touch her face.

“Husband, rest assured, I will take good care of Yuan, and sister, you don’t have to worry. With father and mother here, I will also visit my sister often.”

Half a month later.

Shu Yucheng received the admission invitation from the Zhuying Academy.

The whole family happily sent Shu Yucheng off.

“Mother, Second Brother has finally come around!”

After everyone left, Shu Yuwan was happy. She was genuinely happy for her second brother.

“Your second brother is trying to be your support!” Madam Shu joked.

Indeed, when things were resolved, and the separation was imminent, everything was different now! Everything was moving in a positive direction.

Shu Yuwan smiled happily.

Madam Shu took Shu Yuwan back to the residence, dismissed the servants, and left only her daughter.

Shu Yuwan was curious about what her mother wanted to say.

Madam Shu hesitated and asked, “Wanwan, do you want to remarry?”

Since the question was asked, Madam Shu decided not to dwell on it and asked directly, “Now that you are still young, if you want to remarry, mother will find a reliable family for you outside the capital. Even if the family background is not as good, as long as the character is noble. You don’t have to worry, you are already recorded in the Shu family genealogy, and in the future, you can be recorded under your eldest brother’s name.”

Shu Yuwan’s face turned pale. Women who were about to divorce, held in high regard and loved by their families, when married off to families outside the capital, were often sent to temples to preserve the family’s reputation.

Staying at home was not a long-term solution for her.

But remarrying meant being far away from the capital.

Absolutely not!

She couldn’t leave!

“Mother, I don’t want to remarry.”

“How can you be sure what kind of family you would marry into if you remarried? It’s rare to find a couple as loving as you and father.”

“If I can’t find such a good match, I’d rather not remarry.”

“I have the dowry you and father gave me, enough to support myself.”

“But, you only have Wenyu. In the future, when she grows up and gets married, you’ll be alone…” Madam Shu said with some sadness.

She and Shu Jin Yi, had always been a loving couple, unwilling to see their daughter lonely for life.

“But mother, I feel that living like this is much better than marrying an unreliable man.”

“I have found a quiet courtyard next to the Shu residence, where I will build a Buddhist hall. I will move there and focus on spiritual practice.”

Madam Shu’s resentment towards An Shaoyu grew stronger as she blamed him for her daughter’s situation.

“Since you don’t want to remarry, then stay at home. Forget about the Buddhist hall. As long as your father and I are alive, this is your home.”

“When we are no longer here, if your elder and second brothers treat you poorly, you can leave then.”

Shu Yuwan shook her head.

She was naive.

Thinking that as long as her sisters-in-law didn’t mind, she could stay at home and be with her parents often.

After all, she was a woman about to divorce. If she stayed at home for a long time without remarrying, there would likely be constant gossip outside. She didn’t want to remarry, as there were other sisters who needed to get married in the Shu family.

“Mother, I have already prepared everything for the divorce. The courtyard is bought and arranged. It’s just that when it was close to giving birth, I felt more at ease staying at home. Now that Wenyue is almost six months old, it’s time to move out.”
