Chapter 44 Rumors Disperse
“Mother, I also need you to quell these rumors.”
The Ning Consort was the legitimate daughter of the Wang family, a prestigious family with a deep heritage.
“Don’t worry, I won’t let anyone tarnish your reputation at this critical moment. You were already in a difficult position to marry, and now with people spreading such nonsense, tarnishing your reputation, I might really not be able to find a daughter-in-law for you!” The Ning Consort was deeply resentful.
She added, “Now you understand why you can’t marry this divorced woman! Not only is it embarrassing, but it also invites speculation!”
The Ning Heir got the answer he wanted and grew impatient with the Ning Consort’s nagging.
“Marry Shu Yuwan and end the family line. You decide which is more unpleasant!”
…
At the Shu residence.
Madam Shu, with a dark expression, asked Shu Yuwan, “Have you found out who it is?”
Shu Yuwan shook his head, “I only know that it started spreading in several place. We found three of the rumor spreaders, all were hired to do the job, but we couldn’t find any clues. Among these taverns, Xinglong Tavern belongs to that woman Zhao, and the others belong to different people. Some are related to the Empress Dowager’s family, and some have no clear background.”
Shu Yuwan’s eyes darkened, “However, this Zhao woman seems to have some connection with the Empress Dowager’s family.”
Madam Shu had also heard from Shu’s attendant that Zhao might have a connection with the Fifth Prince. Upon hearing Shu Yuwan’s words, she became more convinced that it was Zhao’s doing. She regretted not giving Zhao a few more slaps when she met her at the Temple.
“Let’s find a way to quell these rumors first.”
“Shu Yuwan has already been criticized enough. Just when things calmed down a bit, this happens again.”
“I have already sent someone to handle it.”
Shu Yuwan replied, “But rumors are difficult to completely suppress.”
Madam Shu also understood that this was putting her eldest son in a difficult position. She couldn’t help but feel reluctant, seeing her youngest daughter repeatedly subjected to gossip and slander.
Madam Shu was always worried and kept visiting Shu Yuwan’s courtyard these days.
Shu Yuwan comforted her, “Mother, I really don’t mind. As long as our family is safe and sound, what does a few hurtful words matter.”
“I still keep causing trouble for the family.”
Upon hearing this, Madam Shu disagreed, “Don’t blame yourself. Whether it’s the divorce before or the current rumors, it’s those people who are hurting you. You haven’t done anything wrong.”
Shu Yuwan knew her mother was defending her and didn’t want her to bear too much burden.
She smiled, “Mother is right.”
“Don’t worry too much. Apart from us, the Ning family probably doesn’t want to hear these rumors either.”
“The Ning Consort has the backing of the Wang family and is a very capable person. I believe these rumors won’t last long.”
After hearing this, Madam Shu thought about what her eldest son had said about the Ning Heir’s interest in Shu Yuwan, hesitated a few times in her heart, but ultimately didn’t speak out.
Although the rumors were exaggerated, they were entirely baseless.
After seeing off her mother, Shu Yuwan prepared to sleep with her daughter, as children need to sleep early to grow well.
Qing Dai came in and said, “Miss, just now a servant from the Ning Heir’s side came to apologize for causing you trouble. He said not to worry about the rumors outside, as the Ning Prince’s residence will find a solution together.”
Shu Yuwan smiled and thanked Qing Dai.
When suddenly the Crown Prince visit Shu Yuwan
Shu Yuwan was surprised by the unexpected visit from the Crown Prince.
Looking at the uninvited guest dressed in black before her.
Shu Yuwan was extremely surprised, “Your Highness?”
“Miss Shu, I came to see if there’s a chance to repay your favor.”
Shu Yuwan looked at the smiling Crown Prince and finally chuckled, “Your Highness, you really can’t owe favors to people!”
“It’s not that, but seeing Miss Shu looking troubled these past few days, I thought Miss Shu might be distressed about it.”
“Now it seems that you is agitated, while Miss Shu herself is very calm. It looks like I’m destined to make this trip in vain.”
Shu Yuwan respectfully bowed, “Thank you for your concern, Your Highness.”
“However, this matter doesn’t require Your Highness’s intervention. I believe the Ning Consort will handle it well.”
The Crown Prince, thinking about what Shu Yuwan said about the Ning Heir’s interest in Shu Yuwan, raised an eyebrow, “It seems Miss Shu and Shinzi have mutual feelings!”
Shu Yuwan looked at the Crown Prince in surprise, “Your Highness, what are you talking about?”
“Could it be that even you Your Highness takes these rumors seriously?”
The Crown Prince, seeing Shu Yuwan’s expression, realized that she was unaware that his cousin had already expressed his desire to marry her to her brother.
Shu Yuwan also realized that there must be something she didn’t know, “I believe the Ning Consort will resolve this matter because the Ning Heir is of marriageable age now. The Ning Consort wants to arrange a marriage for the Ning Heir and can’t let these rumors continue. After all, the young ladies in the capital also care about their reputation.”
Shu Yuwan, no longer shy like a young girl, remained calm in the face of this issue, “I wonder where Your Highness is getting at?”
Seeing Shu Yuwan’s attitude, the Crown Prince, for some reason, asked, “I heard that Shinzi wants to marry Miss Shu causing a scene with the Ning Consort at home!”
Shu Yuwan’s pupils dilated!
“Does Miss Shu have any intentions?” the Crown Prince asked curiously.
Shu Yuwan calmed down from her shock.
She still found it unbelievable.
The Ning Heir?
Marrying her?
Shu Yuwan knew the Crown Prince wouldn’t come to cheer her up late at night, so it must be true, although she didn’t understand why the Ning Heir wanted to marry her. But thinking about it, she knew it was impossible.
Jokingly, she said, “In that case, Your Highness doesn’t need to worry about it anymore. The Ning Consort must be in a hurry right now to speed things up, so that I don’t get involved with the Ning Heir.”
The Crown Prince didn’t ask further.
He nodded, “It’s good if Miss has everything under control.”
“Just that I’ve made this trip, is there any advice Miss Shu wants to give?”
For some reason, he felt that Yuyang sister was worth exploring.
The Fifth Prince hid so deeply, acting seamlessly.
But the fact that this legitimate daughter of the Shu family discovered something from Zhao made him feel it wasn’t a coincidence.
Seeing the Crown Prince looking at her expectantly, Shu Yuwan hesitated.
Now that the Crown Prince had started to guard against the Fifth Prince, the course of events would inevitably change, and she didn’t have the ability to predict the future!
“Your Highness, you are the Crown Prince, with broad knowledge and experience. I have no advice to offer you. Your advice to me would be more appropriate!”
The Crown Prince chuckled.
“What kind of advice does Miss want?”
Shu Yuwan also smiled, “Any kind will do!”
“Then I suggest Miss not marry Shinzi. Although Shinzi is sincere and the Emperor’s only son, he can’t support your future…”
Shu Yuwan couldn’t help but smile at the advice, “Thank you for your advice, Your Highness.”
The Crown Prince left in a good mood. Although he didn’t gain anything from this trip tonight, he felt inexplicably good.
