Chapter 214: Searching Every Grave
Once outside, a large crowd stared at the four of them, their gaze finally settling on the little girl in Di Zian’s arms.
They widened their eyes and gasped as if they had seen something unbelievable.
Luo Zifeng poked Di Zian’s shoulder.
Di Zian followed their gaze and saw a chicken head poking out of Ah Bao’s little cloth pouch, its neck tilted.
Suddenly, Di Zian found the roast chicken very familiar—wait, wasn’t this the roast chicken missing two legs from earlier?
When had his little sister twisted off the chicken neck and hidden it away?
And now there was oil on Ah Bao’s mouth, which made everything clear to the onlookers.
“Did the little princess steal the dragon’s tribute?” someone in the crowd shouted.
“It seems like the troublemaker from before,” Luo Zifeng whispered.
“The little princess is so bold! We were supposed to organize the tributes, but she’s eaten them instead. Isn’t this an offense to the dragon?” the person continued to press.
“The little princess is only one year old. Why pick on a one-year-old? A child that age is only interested in playing and eating. And this little princess was chosen by the dragon’s light! If she eats a roast chicken, so what? Could you even enter the hall yourself?”
“Exactly! Do you think the dragon is as petty as you?”
The crowd quickly divided into two groups: one supporting Ah Bao and the other criticizing her.
“If she angers the dragon and it leaves the Tiansheng Dynasty, never to return, the little princess will be the sinner of our kingdom,” the person fumed.
Ah Bao clutched the chicken neck in her arms and glared at the chattering people, scratching her head in frustration.
[The dragon’s anger isn’t as scary as mine.]
[That dragon is sleeping. It’s been sleeping since it came to the Tiansheng Dynasty. Judging by the time, it should be waking up now.]
Di Zian’s legs turned to jelly from fear.
The dr-dragon is waking up?
Luo Zifeng and Di Rongjing quietly steadied themselves. They had just heard something explosive.
Everyone understood that, without a national god, the dragon was merely a symbolic presence in the Tiansheng Dynasty, not one that would actually reveal its power.
“Crack.”
“Ahhh! The outer wall of the temple is peeling off! It looks like the dragon is waking up!” someone shouted, their eyes wide with terror.
“The tenth princess is in big trouble now. She’s woken the dragon!”
“The dragon won’t leave and never return to the Tiansheng Dynasty, right? Waaaah!”
Di Zian took Ah Bao to the front of the temple.
A group of people followed behind.
On the wall, a lifelike dragon was carved.
The temple stood firm, but the carvings on the wall began to peel away bit by bit, as if a dragon that had been asleep for a thousand years was about to awaken.
“It’s waking up in anger! The dragon is waking up in anger! Our Tiansheng Dynasty is in trouble!”
“Kneel quickly! Pray that the dragon doesn’t get angry and won’t take it out on our Tiansheng Dynasty. We cannot afford to provoke it!”
The entire group knelt in unison, bowing towards the dragon and chanting, “Please calm your anger, Great Dragon. Please calm your anger, Great Dragon.”
Di Zian, Luo Zifeng, and Di Rongjing knelt in the front row, too afraid to lift their heads, fearful of angering the dragon. Zian wanted to check on Ah Bao, but when he looked around, the little girl was nowhere to be seen.
Heavens!
“Sis…” Zian looked up and saw Ah Bao standing right in front of the dragon carving. She was so small that a single dragon claw could completely cover and crush her.
Ah Bao’s eyes blinked as she stared unblinkingly at the dragon sculpture on the wall.
*This dragon looks a bit familiar…*
Zian closed his eyes, nearly fainting from fright. His sister’s inner thoughts were terrifying!
“Sis, come over here, quickly!” Zian whispered urgently to Ah Bao.
But Ah Bao didn’t seem to hear him. The wall continued to tremble and shed its surface, as if the dragon might emerge from it at any moment.
“Hey, wake up, wake up, time to get to work,” Ah Bao muttered.
Others, standing farther away, couldn’t hear her, but Zian, Zifeng, and Rongjing, who were kneeling in the front row, heard her clearly.
Was Ah Bao… talking to the dragon?
At that moment, the dragon, which had its eyes closed, suddenly opened them.
“The dragon is alive! The dragon has awakened! Ahhhh!”
“Kneel before the dragon, may the dragon bless us, may the dragon not be angry!”
Everyone trembled with fear, reverently bowing down.
*Oh my, I’ve accomplished something! I saw the dragon wake up.*
The wall stopped trembling, and the surface stopped peeling off, as if afraid of dropping any debris on Ah Bao.
Ah Bao held up the chicken neck she was holding and offered it to the dragon, “You don’t like this stuff, do you?”
The now wide-awake dragon: “…”
Who on earth could explain why there was a little girl in front of it, offering a chicken neck?
It had just woken up, still unsure of what was happening, and this little girl was handing it a chicken neck with a dead chicken’s head hanging from it, staring blankly with lifeless eyes…
The dragon moved its body, flying out of the wall. Its massive head and enormous body loomed in the air, even larger than the temple itself!
It lowered its head to stare at Ah Bao, the tiny girl showing no fear in her eyes.
The dragon took a deep breath, intending to unleash its breath and crush the little girl.
A dragon’s breath could kill everyone in the capital city.
Though revered and worshipped, the dragon’s wrath was something no mortal could endure.
No one dared to provoke the dragon!
Everyone knelt on the ground, trembling, except for Ah Bao, who stood there, staring directly at the dragon.
She pouted, clearly annoyed, “You’re interrupting my meal.”
The dragon, preparing to unleash its breath: ???
Its golden eyes widened in shock!
That tone, that look, those words—
They reminded it of someone from long, long ago, someone it had locked away deep in its memory.
Someone who had once spoken to it in the same tone, saying: “You’re interrupting my meal.”
The dragon, on the verge of unleashing its breath, swallowed it back down.
It trembled as it slowly lowered its massive head, leaning closer to Ah Bao, gently sniffing her.
A familiar scent.
It had found her!
It had scoured the seven kingdoms, searched every grave, and prayed devoutly. For thousands of years, it had guarded the seven kingdoms, accumulating countless treasures and roasted meats, and finally, it had found the person it was looking for!
She had returned, she had finally returned!!!
The dragon carefully approached Ah Bao, its enormous horns gently rubbing against her small cheek, letting out a soft whimpering sound.
Tears began to fall from its eyes, and given its size, the tears were like buckets of water, streaming down to the ground.
