Just as the forces gathering at the rendezvous point had nearly completed their movements, the forces that had shown open hostility and refused to move finally began to stir. However, instead of heading towards the rendezvous point, they moved in the opposite direction.
“What do you think they’re up to?”
“Tactically, it doesn’t make sense. They’re probably just trying to unsettle us with those movements. Well, let’s ignore that for now. Ranelle, could you give the next speech to those who have gathered?”
“Understood. That’s my duty. Leave it to me.”
Ranelle’s speech was worthy of the first president of the Amuria Federation. She boldly declared that now, when the Federation was on the verge of collapse due to chaos and violence, was precisely the time for her to fulfill her purpose, and she vowed to restore the Federation to its former glory.
The listeners were greatly stirred by her words. Although the country had a short history, it was clear that something had been born as a collective, and there were many who remained loyal to the president. However, among them were those with false loyalty. The next step was to flush them out.
To expose the true nature of the enemy, the best way was to use an enticing bait. With safety assured, Ranelle was to become that exquisite bait. The audience with the leaders of the gathered forces would serve as the baiting ground.
“Are you sure this is really okay, Rafishal?”
Ranelle double-checked the performance of the protective suit she was wearing under her clothes. Rafishal confidently explained:
“This suit uses magic technology adapted from the defense system of Nagisa’s Diatena. Whether struck by a sword or shot by an arrow, you won’t get a single scratch.”
“Even so, I’m against using Ranelle as bait. Isn’t there another way?”
Nagisa wasn’t opposing Rafishal’s technology, but rather the operation itself. It’s only natural—who would be okay with watching their childhood friend willingly walk into a situation where they might be killed?
I didn’t doubt Rafishal’s words, but I couldn’t help but feel anxious. However, Ranelle, who was going to be the bait, showed no signs of being disturbed and reassured us with a smile:
“It’ll be fine, Nagisa, Yuta. I have full confidence in the technology of the Musou Ironclad Brigade, and I believe this plan will work.”
If there had been even a hint of unease on her face, I would have stopped her, no matter what she said. But there was none. This is what it means to fully trust someone, I realized. I silently vowed to protect her.
“Alright, it’s about time. Don’t get too complacent just because you’re wearing a protective suit. And make sure the guards do their job.”
Ranelle’s protection was entrusted to the guard unit commanded by Alana, and she was also joined by Darm and Balm, who were unmatched in close combat. Nagisa and I were to remain on standby in our Magicrafts, ready to respond if anything major happened.
