Chapter 16 Su Xiwan, the College Entrance Exam Top Scorer
After the two days of the college entrance exam, Su Xiwan finally felt relieved. She took a deep breath, finally able to stop thinking about studying and doing exercises.
Two days after the exam, Qiao Feiyan looked at her friend with a serious expression and said:
“Xiwan, now that the college entrance exam is over, shouldn’t you draw more talismans and make more pills? Especially the pills, we still owe the Lingyun Temple a lot of orders!”
Su Xiwan, hearing Qiao Feiyan’s words, couldn’t help but say with a hint of helplessness:
“I’ll go to the deep mountains in another province to collect herbs in two days. After collecting the herbs, I’ll go to make those pills. Tell the headmaster of the Lingyun Temple.”
She sighed softly, thinking to herself that she wanted to rest for a few more days. However, she had been busy taking the college entrance exam recently and owed a lot of orders. Luckily, those customers were all old customers, and knowing that she was taking the exam, they had all taken the initiative to say that they would wait until after she finished the exam.
From that day on, Su Xiwan began her busy life of collecting herbs and making pills. In the deep mountains, Su Xiwan was alone, carrying her herbal medicine collection tools, shuttling through the forest. Her eyes were focused and sharp, not missing any herb that could be used.
While collecting herbs, Su Xiwan was also cultivating, after all, the spiritual energy in the deep mountains was more abundant than in the city. Originally, Su Xiwan’s making those pills also consumed a lot of spiritual energy. So, she simply collected herbs, cultivated, and made pills at the same time. She made full use of her spiritual energy, which also accelerated her speed in making pills.
Even so, it was already half a month later when she returned to Beijing. Su Xiwan handed over the pills she had made these days to Qiao Feiyan and then eagerly prepared to rest for a few days, allowing her body and mind to relax properly.
However, the next morning, Su Xiwan had just finished her morning meditation and was about to go back to sleep to make up for the sleep she had missed these days. However, just as she fell asleep for a while, she was awakened by a series of urgent phone calls.
Su Xiwan, a little groggy, picked up her phone and pressed the answer button. She heard Teacher Zhang’s familiar and urgent voice coming from the other end:
“Xiwan, come to school right away, the college entrance exam scores are out!”
“Ah? Okay, teacher!” Su Xiwan, hearing Teacher Zhang’s words, gradually woke up.
The college entrance exam scores were out? She had forgotten. Su Xiwan wanted to pick up her phone to check her scores, but then she thought that she would know when she got to school anyway, so she didn’t bother.
After all, she felt that she had done pretty well in this college entrance exam. Getting into Peking University was very likely, so she wasn’t worried about her scores at all.
Su Xiwan simply washed up, ate a quick breakfast, and then carried her backpack to Beijing No. 2 Middle School. As she approached the school gate, Su Xiwan saw the eye-catching banner. She couldn’t help but twitch her mouth. Okay, she didn’t need to check. She knew her score now!
The red banner read: Congratulations to Su Xiwan, a student of our school, for becoming the top scorer in the college entrance exam, with a total score of 748 points.
748? Su Xiwan looked at this score and couldn’t help but think to herself, how did she lose those two points? Was it the essay? The essay was deducted two points. That wasn’t right!
While Su Xiwan was in a daze, she received another call from Teacher Zhang:
“Xiwan, have you arrived at school?”
Su Xiwan: “I’ve arrived, teacher. I’m just at the school gate.”
Teacher Zhang, hearing Su Xiwan’s words, smiled and said to Su Xiwan:
“Xiwan, you have really brought honor to our school again this time. By the way, Xiwan, come to my office. The TV station staff are going to interview you. Xiwan, don’t refuse. This is a good opportunity to promote our school!”
Su Xiwan, who was about to refuse, heard Teacher Zhang’s words and couldn’t help but obediently agree. She didn’t want to be in the limelight, but Teacher Zhang was very kind to her, so she felt embarrassed to refuse the teacher’s suggestion.
So, Su Xiwan, somewhat reluctantly, slowly walked towards Teacher Zhang’s office. When she arrived at Teacher Zhang’s office, she found that the small office was full of people. There were school leaders, teachers from other classes, and some staff members.
Everyone, seeing Su Xiwan come in, said all sorts of congratulatory words. Su Xiwan had never seen such a scene before, but she still bravely accepted everyone’s congratulations and cooperated with the TV station’s interview.
During the interview, Su Xiwan, although a little nervous, still tried her best to remain calm and composed as she answered the reporter’s various questions. She shared her learning methods, exam preparation experience, and future plans.
After the recording was finished and the TV station staff left, Teacher Zhang looked at Su Xiwan, who looked tired, and smiled:
“Xiwan, you’ve worked hard! Come on, teacher will take you to eat!”
Su Xiwan wanted to refuse, but she had noticed that Teacher Zhang’s complexion was a little off when she entered the office. She hadn’t had time to talk to Teacher Zhang with the TV station staff around. But now, there were other teachers in the office, so it wasn’t convenient for Su Xiwan to say anything, so she nodded and agreed to Teacher Zhang’s suggestion:
“Okay, teacher!”
Teacher Zhang was worried that Su Xiwan would refuse. Seeing that she agreed to her suggestion, a relieved smile appeared on her face. She took Su Xiwan out of the school and into a restaurant next to the school.
After they sat down, Teacher Zhang ordered food for Su Xiwan. While waiting for the restaurant staff to serve the food, Su Xiwan hesitated for a moment before finally speaking to Teacher Zhang:
“Teacher, is your younger brother not feeling well lately?”
Teacher Zhang, who was pouring water for Su Xiwan, was stunned for a moment when she heard Su Xiwan say this. Then, she smiled gently and said:
“Xiwan, how did you know? My little boy is too mischievous. I don’t know how he fell or bumped into something, but recently his teacher has been complaining that his legs hurt, and he often has bruises all over his body!”
Teacher Zhang’s child’s nickname is Tiantian, and he is eight years old. He is Teacher Zhang’s only child. Teacher Zhang had a lot of bleeding when she gave birth to Tiantian. The doctor told her that she could not have children anymore. So, Tiantian was all her hope and reliance.
Su Xiwan nodded after hearing Teacher Zhang’s words. However, she didn’t know how to tell Teacher Zhang. When she saw Teacher Zhang’s face just now, she noticed that her child palace was slowly fading, which meant that Teacher Zhang’s son’s condition was not that simple.
So, Su Xiwan remained silent for a moment before saying to Teacher Zhang:
“Teacher Zhang, whether you believe me or not, I think you should take your child to the hospital for a check-up.”
Su Xiwan said this and then thought about the talisman brush and yellow paper she had in her space. She took out the tools for drawing talismans from her space using her backpack. Then, she stood up and, under Teacher Zhang’s surprised gaze, started to draw a talisman.
Su Xiwan unfolded the yellow paper and cinnabar, picked up her brush, gathered her energy, and then drew with a flourish, completing the talisman in one go. As Su Xiwan finished the last stroke, Teacher Zhang actually noticed a flash of golden light on the talisman. The golden light quickly disappeared, and Teacher Zhang thought that if she had blinked, she would have thought she had seen wrong.
Teacher Zhang, after hearing what Su Xiwan had said, then watched Su Xiwan’s actions. She looked at Su Xiwan in surprise. She had been teaching Su Xiwan math for a year and had been her homeroom teacher for a year. She didn’t know that Xiwan could do this.
Teacher Zhang couldn’t believe it. After all, Xiwan was so young. But she had been teaching Su Xiwan for a year, and she knew that this child was always very decisive and mature.
Su Xiwan picked up the newly drawn Health Talisman and handed it to Teacher Zhang:
“Teacher Zhang, this is a Health Talisman. Although this talisman won’t have a great effect, it can enhance your child’s physique and vitality.”
Su Xiwan didn’t know what disease Teacher Zhang’s son had, but she could tell from Teacher Zhang’s face that the disease was not easy to cure.
Su Xiwan thought for a moment and then said:
“Teacher Zhang, if… I mean, if there’s really something difficult, you must tell me. Teacher, I can’t tell you too much, but I can tell you that I know some medical skills that are different from those of doctors in hospitals!”
Su Xiwan didn’t dare to say too much. She knew that if she said too much, Teacher Zhang wouldn’t believe her, so she hoped that when Teacher Zhang’s medical treatment was ineffective in the end, she would remember what she had said.
Su Xiwan also couldn’t make any promises. After all, she had only been involved in the mystical arts for six years, and she wasn’t sure what level her medical skills were at. Besides, she didn’t know what disease Teacher Zhang’s child had, so she could only suggest that Teacher Zhang take him to the hospital to see a doctor first.
