Chapter 18 Madame Chu and Chu Yunxi
——–
A restaurant in Beijing
In a secluded corner of the restaurant, an old lady and a fully-armed young girl were sitting. The girl was wrapped up tightly, afraid of being recognized.
“Xixi, why can’t you say it on the phone? Didn’t I tell you to meet less often? Besides, you’re a public figure now. What if someone recognizes you?” The old lady frowned slightly, her voice tinged with a hint of dissatisfaction and worry.
“Grandma, I just miss you. Besides, I’m afraid it won’t be clear enough over the phone. Today, I heard the Mu family say that they saw a girl on TV who looked very much like Jiang Xingman. The Mu family all suspect that the girl is the kidnapped Mu Yunyue!”
Chu Yunxi’s voice trembled slightly, revealing the unease and anxiety in her heart. She stared intently at Madame Chu across from her, hoping for an answer that would reassure her.
“Oh? You saw it on TV? Xixi, do you know the girl’s information?” As Madame Chu said these words, a hint of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes.
“I heard my fifth brother, Mu Jinghao, say that she is a student at Beijing No. 2 Middle School.” Chu Yunxi quickly replied, her hands unconsciously clutching the hem of her clothes, revealing her inner nervousness.
Madame Chu, hearing Chu Yunxi say that she was a student at Beijing No. 2 Middle School, her tense expression suddenly relaxed. She breathed a sigh of relief and a subtle smile appeared on her face.
“Xixi, it’s from Beijing No. 2 Middle School, then she can’t be Mu Yunyue. You can rest assured about that!” Madame Chu’s tone became relaxed, as if her previous worry had never existed.
“Grandma, why are you so sure?” Although Chu Yunxi knew that her grandmother was very capable, she was still curious. Why was her grandmother so certain?
“Xixi, don’t ask about this. Don’t ask about things you shouldn’t know, okay?” Madame Chu said sternly to her granddaughter. Her gaze became stern and firm, making it impossible to look at her directly. But soon, she seemed to feel that her tone was a bit harsh, so she softened it slightly:
“Xixi, just stay in the Mu family. Even if Mu Yunyue is not found, what if she is found? You have been pampered by them in the Mu family since childhood. Do you think they will be closer to a stranger or to you, who has been pampered by them since childhood?”
Chu Yunxi, hearing her grandmother say this, her heart, which had been hanging, finally relaxed. It was no wonder she was so worried.
She had grown up in the Mu family since she was a child. She was only a month older than Mu Yunyue, the missing daughter of the Mu family. After Mu Yunyue was lost, her grandmother changed her name to Chu Yunxi and brought her to the Mu family. She told Madame Mu that she had seen the Mu family lose their granddaughter and felt very sad, so she sent her granddaughter over to relieve their sadness.
Her grandmother, Madame Chu, and Madame Mu were sisters. When Madame Mu saw Chu Yunxi, who was brought over by her sister, she decided to keep her.
After all, after losing her granddaughter, her eldest daughter-in-law was like a possessed person, and she was a bit delirious. The entire family was in turmoil trying to find their missing granddaughter.
So, Madame Mu thought that her sister’s granddaughter was about the same age as her missing granddaughter. So, she thought about keeping this child and putting her under her eldest son’s name, so that her eldest daughter-in-law could also shift her thoughts.
The Mu family patriarch was also present at the time. Originally, he didn’t agree with his wife’s suggestion, after all, she was the Chu family’s granddaughter, not theirs.
But then he thought about his eldest daughter-in-law’s sad and heartbroken appearance every day, so he didn’t say no. He thought that it was just an extra pair of chopsticks at home. They would raise her, just in case she could make his eldest daughter-in-law feel better.
Unfortunately, the patriarch’s thoughts were very optimistic. Chu Yunxi was indeed very cute. As soon as she arrived at the Mu family, she was loved by everyone else in the family, including her several grandsons. They would surround Chu Yunxi every day and call her “sister, sister.”
However, Chu Yunxi was loved by many people in the Mu family, but she was not liked by her eldest daughter-in-law at all. Even her eldest son complained to him:
“Dad, Chu Yunxi can’t possibly replace our Yuyue. How could you think about letting us adopt her?”
Originally, Madame Mu had wanted to adopt Chu Yunxi under her eldest son’s name, but her eldest son and eldest daughter-in-law both disagreed.
Originally, Madame Mu had wanted to adopt Chu Yunxi under her eldest son’s name, but her eldest son and eldest daughter-in-law both disagreed.
At this time, the eldest daughter-in-law was almost at the point of breaking down emotionally because of the loss of her child. Madame Mu didn’t dare to force them too much, but she had already promised her sister to keep Chu Yunxi. So, Madame Mu thought, the Mu family had many boys, and the only girl was lost, so she simply kept Chu Yunxi in the Mu family.
———-
Madame Chu, seeing that Chu Yunxi was no longer as nervous and worried as before, showed a loving smile and said:
“Xixi, remember what grandma told you. You need to know that grandma did all of this for you, for our Chu family. Just hold on a little longer. We’re about to succeed!”
Chu Yunxi, who was eating a small bite of food, nodded obediently after hearing Madame Chu’s words.
The Mu family’s background was a hundred times stronger than theirs. The reason she could grow up in the Mu family was entirely because of her grandmother’s scheming for her. So, she knew from a young age that it was always right to listen to her grandmother.
But now, she was worried. If Mu Yunyue really came back, would the Mu family still pamper her as much as before? If they didn’t pamper her anymore, then her and her grandmother’s plan…
Thinking about this, Chu Yunxi couldn’t help but worry again. After all, she wasn’t loved by everyone in the Mu family. For example, Mu Yunyue’s biological parents, Mu Hongtao and Jiang Xingman, the eldest son and eldest daughter-in-law of Madame Mu, and their eldest son, Mu Jingchen, she had tried to please them countless times over the past ten years, but they were always indifferent to her.
In their hearts, their biological daughter and sister were the most important. Especially Jiang Xingman, no matter how obedient she was in front of her, she still couldn’t get even a hint of affection from her.
Heh, they deserved to lose their child. Chu Yunxi thought hatefully. She hoped they would never find the lost Mu Yunyue.
Speaking of Mu Yunyue, Chu Yunxi was even more resentful. When her grandmother brought her to the Mu family, she changed her name to Yunxi. Her grandmother had wanted the Mu family to see that her name was similar to Mu Yunyue’s, so that they would also change her name to Mu Yunxi.
But she had stayed in the Mu family for ten years and still had the surname “Chu.” Although everyone outside knew she was the only daughter of the Mu family, because of her surname, she always felt that the way people looked at her was strange.
Fortunately, the Mu family, except for the couple of the eldest branch who were not very affectionate towards her, everyone else, because she was the only girl in the Mu family, spoiled her. So, outsiders, seeing how favored she was in the Mu family, would flatter and please her.
Madame Chu, looking at her obedient and sensible granddaughter, nodded in satisfaction. The plan she had been making for so many years was about to come to fruition. A glimmer of determination shone in her eyes, which were surrounded by wrinkles.
