Chapter 20 The Jade Stone is Found
Mu Jingchen, familiar with the way, arrived at Mu Hongtao’s office. The door was ajar, allowing a stream of light to escape. Mu Jingchen reached out and knocked on the office door.
“Come in!” Mu Hongtao’s steady and powerful voice came from inside.
Mu Jingchen pushed open the door and entered the office. He saw his father sitting at his desk, intently dealing with documents. He first greeted him: “Dad!”
Mu Hongtao, hearing his son’s voice, raised his eyes. His deep gaze revealed a hint of fatigue, but when he saw his son, it softened a bit. He put down the pen in his hand and gestured for Mu Jingchen to sit on the sofa next to the desk: “Sit down.”
Mu Hongtao also stood up and came to the side of the sofa. He casually picked up a can of soda from a small sofa nearby and handed it to Mu Jingchen:
“Jingchen, you came to the company to find me today. Is there something wrong?”
Mu Hongtao had a good chance of guessing that Mu Jingchen must have something to do, otherwise, his son, who had become more and more steady after his training in the army, wouldn’t have come to the company to find him specifically.
Mu Jingchen looked at his father, feeling hesitant. He didn’t know whether to tell his father about Su Xiwan now or wait until he did a paternity test with Su Xiwan and confirmed that she was his sister, before telling his father.
After all, for all these years, it wasn’t just his mother who had been experiencing constant hope and disappointment. He and his father had also suffered through this long journey of searching for their family. He couldn’t bear to let his father bear another disappointment. What if, what if it was a disappointment again this time?
“Jingchen, what’s wrong?”
Mu Hongtao, seeing Mu Jingchen’s hesitant expression, his astute mind instantly thought of something. He was unsure, but he was also certain as he asked:
“Jingchen, did you come to me today about your sister? Have you found any news about Yuyue?”
Mu Hongtao’s eyes were fixed on Mu Jingchen, his gaze filled with tension and anticipation, as if waiting for a crucial answer.
Mu Jingchen looked at the deep longing in his father’s eyes. He finally made up his mind and nodded in the face of his father’s intense hope.
After so many disappointments, Mu Hongtao still held onto hope in the search for his daughter. At this moment, seeing his son nod, he was taken aback. Excitement surged through him.
Mu Jingchen took out his phone, opened the investigation report about Su Xiwan that he had asked someone to do, and handed it to Mu Hongtao.
Mu Hongtao only saw the photo of Su Xiwan being interviewed, and he didn’t know why, but just looking at the photo, he couldn’t help but feel a strange feeling in his heart.
This girl looked so much like his wife, but her eyes looked a bit like him. As he flipped through Su Xiwan’s other information, he found that she was a student at Beijing No. 2 Middle School and was the switched fake daughter of the Su family in Beijing. He looked at his son in astonishment.
Mu Hongtao couldn’t believe it. A girl who looked so much like him and his wife had actually grown up in the Su family in Beijing. Besides, this child had been raised by the Su family since birth. This couldn’t possibly be their Yuyue!
Mu Jingchen also saw Mu Hongtao’s doubt, so he cautiously told him about his and Ye Moyan’s guess:
“Dad, do you think it’s possible, I mean, it’s just a possibility, but do you think this girl might have been switched with the real daughter of the Su family at the hospital? Then, this girl was taken to the Su family, and the real daughter of the Su family was taken home by us?”
“You mean?” Mu Hongtao, whose mood had been a bit disappointed, felt hope rekindle after hearing Mu Jingchen’s words.
“Dad, look at what the investigation report says. This girl and my sister were born on the same day and in the same hospital. There’s a high probability that they were switched, right?” Mu Jingchen explained to his father earnestly. He hoped his father would believe this possibility.
Mu Hongtao, hearing his son’s words, carefully read the investigation report again. The birth date and hospital of Su Xiwan written on it were indeed the same as his wife’s. And this girl was actually born on the same day as his Yuyue.
Seeing this, Mu Hongtao’s mood became a bit agitated. He looked at Mu Jingchen and said:
“Jingchen, let’s go. Let’s go find that girl now. I want to do a paternity test with her. I want to go right now!”
Mu Hongtao was about to get up and walk out. Mu Jingchen, seeing his father’s lack of composure, couldn’t help but feel a pang of heartache.
He reached out and grabbed Mu Hongtao’s arm and said:
“Dad, it’s very late now. Su Xiwan is a girl after all. I heard that she’s living in a rented house now. It would be impolite to disturb her at this time. Besides, if you go back so late, Mom will be worried!” Mu Jingchen’s voice was steady and rational, trying to calm his father down.
Mu Hongtao, hearing Mu Jingchen mention his wife, gradually calmed down. Yes, he couldn’t let his wife know about this. She couldn’t handle another disappointment.
So, Mu Hongtao patted Mu Jingchen on the shoulder, but he found that his son was much taller than him. For all these years, he had been neglecting so many things because of the company, his wife, and the search for his daughter.
He suddenly felt guilty. He looked at Mu Jingchen, his gaze softening a bit:
“Jingchen, let’s go back first. I’ll take you back to the old residence. We’ll go find that girl tomorrow.”
Mu Jingchen nodded after hearing his father’s arrangement. The two of them walked towards the parking lot in silence.
Mu Jingchen, looking at his father’s back, silently prayed that Su Xiwan was really his sister. Otherwise, they had been searching for over ten years, and his father and mother couldn’t handle too much more.
The next day, Su Xiwan was already used to waking up early. As the sky just started to turn a pale blue, she quietly got out of bed and went to the balcony with Xiaohua to cultivate. After the sun rose, Su Xiwan slowly finished her cultivation, changed into her workout gear, and went out for a run. Su Xiwan ran slowly along the familiar streets, feeling the rhythm of her body and the peacefulness of the surrounding environment.
But she always felt like something was going to happen today. So, she pinched her fingers and calculated her fortune for the day.
Feeling that nothing bad would happen to her today, Su Xiwan relaxed. She was about to prepare breakfast when she heard her phone ringing.
She picked up the phone on the table and saw that it was a call from Ji Hangyi. As soon as she pressed the answer button, she heard Ji Hangyi’s voice on the phone:
“Master Su, where are you now? Hehe, I found a piece of excellent jade. Can I send it to you later?”
Su Xiwan, hearing Ji Hangyi’s words, “hmm”ed and then said:
“Okay, I’ll send you my address later!”
Originally, Su Xiwan was thinking about going to the supermarket to buy some groceries. After all, she hadn’t stayed in Beijing much since the college entrance exam, and she had been in the deep mountains for so long. Her refrigerator was still empty.
But Ji Hangyi was coming over later, so Su Xiwan thought she would go to the supermarket to buy some groceries after Ji Hangyi left.
