Chapter 30 The Five Arts of Xuanmen
So, while Jiang Xingman was still telling Mu Xiwan about the family situation, Mu Hongtao quietly went to the courtyard and called the old Master Mu.
“Dad, we found Yueyue!” Mu Hongtao’s voice was filled with uncontainable excitement and joy.
“Yes, it’s the girl you saw on TV!”
“Wanwan is this year’s top scorer in the college entrance exam!” With each word Mu Hongtao spoke, his pride and self-assurance were clearly transmitted through the phone.
……….
“Okay, Dad, we’ll go back together then!”
When Mu Hongtao was talking about Mu Xiwan to the old Master Mu in the courtyard, the pride in his loud voice was heard clearly by everyone in the house.
Jiang Xingman saw Mu Hongtao walking back in after hanging up the phone and teased him with a smile, “Your voice, it’s like you were afraid the old Master wouldn’t hear you, you could hear it from miles away!” Jiang Xingman’s face was filled with a gentle smile, but her eyes revealed a playful teasing of her husband.
Mu Hongtao only then realized that his voice had been a bit loud just now. He looked at Mu Xiwan a little embarrassed and said, “Wanwan, your dad isn’t usually like this. I was just too happy today, so when I was talking to your grandpa about you, I couldn’t help but raise my voice a little!”
His daughter was actually the top scorer in the college entrance exam! How could he not be happy? Thinking about it, Mu Hongtao’s lips couldn’t help but rise again.
Mu Xiwan watched Mu Hongtao, who was still a little excited, and couldn’t help but smile. The atmosphere in this family was very good, and she liked it for now.
Jiang Xingman looked at Mu Hongtao and asked, “Husband, what did Dad say?”
Mu Hongtao looked at his wife, remembering the old Master’s instructions on the phone. He suppressed his excitement and said hesitantly, “Dad means we should bring Wanwan back now. I was thinking that it’s almost lunchtime, so I told Dad we’d go over after lunch.”
Mu Hongtao paused and then continued, “Also, Dad said he wants Wanwan to live in the old house!” Mu Hongtao’s voice was low, his gaze flickering between his wife and daughter.
The Mu family hadn’t even separated yet. The old Master Mu had allowed him and his wife to move out, considering his wife’s health, and only then agreed.
Jiang Xingman looked at her husband’s troubled expression and thought for a moment before saying, “Alright then, we’ll move back to the old house too!”
“But you…” Mu Hongtao looked at his wife, unable to finish his words. He was worried that his wife’s health wouldn’t be able to handle it. After all, the old house was crowded and noisy, unlike their current small courtyard, which was quiet and peaceful.
Mu Xiwan heard their conversation and looked at Jiang Xingman beside her, smiling and saying, “Mom, can I take your pulse?”
“Oh! Okay, okay!” Although Jiang Xingman was curious why her daughter wanted to take her pulse, she didn’t ask if Mu Xiwan knew how to do it. She immediately agreed. In her eyes, as long as her daughter asked, she would agree unconditionally. Jiang Xingman extended her right hand and gently placed it on the table, her eyes full of trust.
“Wanwan, do you know medicine?” Mu Hongtao asked in surprise.
Mu Xiwan placed her hand on Jiang Xingman’s pulse and looked at Mu Hongtao, saying, “Yes, you should know that I know Xuan. The medicine I learned is also a type of Xuanmen knowledge, and I also have some knowledge of the Mountain, Medicine, Fate, Appearance, and Divination of Xuanmen, but it’s not very deep.”
As Mu Xiwan spoke, she began to carefully examine Jiang Xingman’s pulse. Her gaze was focused and serious, intently feeling the pulse’s rhythm.
Jiang Xingman was also a bit surprised after hearing Mu Xiwan’s words. Although the Su family wasn’t considered a wealthy family, they were still quite well-off. How could Wanwan have learned about Xuanmen knowledge while living in the Su family?
Mu Hongtao and Mu Jingchen had the same question, but they didn’t want to interrupt Mu Xiwan’s pulse-taking, so they endured their curiosity and watched silently.
After taking Jiang Xingman’s pulse, Mu Xiwan’s brows furrowed. She looked at Jiang Xingman and asked earnestly, “Mom, do you often have trouble sleeping? Do you often have headaches or feel restless? Also, do you have some problems with your gynecology?” Because Mu Jingchen was there, Mu Xiwan couldn’t say it directly. Jiang Xingman’s period had stopped, but she was only in her late forties!
Jiang Xingman immediately looked up in surprise at Mu Xiwan after hearing her words, saying, “Yes, yes, Wanwan, how did you know?”
Jiang Xingman felt it was incredible. Her daughter had only taken her pulse, and she could describe her condition so clearly. Even those old Chinese doctors probably wouldn’t be so sure!
Mu Xiwan withdrew her hand and smiled, saying, “Of course it’s because I took your pulse!”
Although Mu Xiwan was smiling, she felt an indescribable feeling in her heart. She could sense that Jiang Xingman’s current physical condition wasn’t as good as it seemed.
She must have suffered from a more serious mental illness, like depression. Mu Xiwan felt a bit heavy in her heart. She understood that Jiang Xingman’s depression must have been caused by her disappearance.
Although it was Su Miaowen who was taken away, Jiang Xingman didn’t know at the time that she and Su Miaowen had been switched at birth. So, overall, a large part of Jiang Xingman’s current health problems was due to her own reasons.
Mu Hongtao, hearing about his wife’s many symptoms, had always thought that after she moved out and underwent treatment for a few years, her condition had been improving. He didn’t expect that she had been hiding so much from him out of fear of worrying him.
Mu Hongtao looked at Jiang Xingman with heartache, then looked at Mu Xiwan with some concern and said, “Wanwan, can you treat your mother’s condition?” His eyes were full of expectation and trust.
Mu Xiwan looked at Mu Hongtao, who trusted her medical skills so much, and couldn’t help but ask curiously, “You believe in my medical skills?”
“What’s there to not believe? You were able to describe your mother’s symptoms so clearly just by taking her pulse. It shows that your medical skills are extraordinary.” Mu Hongtao laughed as he answered his daughter’s question. His eyes were filled with pride and self-assurance in his daughter.
Actually, after Mu Hongtao and his son left Mu Xiwan’s apartment with Ji Hangyi that day, Mu Hongtao and his son carefully inquired about how Ji Hangyi met Mu Xiwan.
After hearing Ji Hangyi’s detailed account of how Mu Xiwan helped him drive away the ghost, Mu Hongtao and Mu Jingchen were both stunned. However, although they were stunned, they could still accept it. After all, in their wealthy circles, many families had invited feng shui masters.
Moreover, Mu Jingchen, being in the army, knew that there was a Bureau of the Supernatural in the country. They also knew that in recent years, some universities had gradually added majors related to Xuanmen.
Thinking of this, Mu Jingchen couldn’t help but ask the question he had been wanting to ask: “Wanwan, how did you learn this Xuan?” As soon as Mu Jingchen finished speaking, Mu Hongtao and Jiang Xingman also looked at Mu Xiwan curiously.
Mu Xiwan paused slightly after hearing Mu Jingchen’s words and said, “I accidentally obtained some Xuanmen books and learned them on my own.”
Mu Xiwan didn’t tell them about the space. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust them, but the matter of the space was a bit fantastical. She didn’t know if they would believe her if she told them.
“My daughter is so smart, she learned so well by self-study!” Mu Hongtao couldn’t help but praise. Then he turned to Jiang Xingman and recounted the story of Mu Xiwan helping Ji Hangyi drive away the ghost.
When Jiang Xingman heard Mu Hongtao’s words, she also felt incredible. She had heard of feng shui masters, but she had never encountered them before. So, Jiang Xingman curiously asked, “Wanwan, can you also draw talismans, tell fortunes, and read people’s faces?”
Mu Xiwan nodded after hearing Jiang Xingman’s words, “Yes, I know a little about all five arts of Xuanmen, but I’m more proficient in the Mountain and Medicine aspects, which are talismans and medicine.”
After all, Mu Xiwan had to use talismans and medicinal pills to support herself, so she had put in more effort in these two areas.
