Chapter 34 The Attitudes of the Cousins
Only Chu Yunxi, who wasn’t there that day, felt a little strange. But after she returned that day, she also heard that they had seen a girl on TV who looked very much like her eldest aunt.
So, she quickly found Old Lady Chu, but her grandmother said that the girl had grown up in Beijing, so she couldn’t possibly be the lost Mu Yunyue. Why then did they bring this girl back? Could it be…?
Thinking about this, Chu Yunxi couldn’t help but clench her hand, her manicured nails digging into her palm, but she didn’t notice. She stood there silently, her eyes complex as she looked ahead. She wanted to see if this girl was really Mu Yunyue.
At this moment, after Jiang Xingman and Mu Xiwan got out of the car, Mu Hongtao and Jiang Xingman pulled Mu Xiwan to the old man and said, “Dad, this is Wanwan, our Yueyue. We’ve brought her back!”
Then, Mu Hongtao said to Mu Xiwan with a doting smile, “Xiwan, this is Grandpa.”
Mu Xiwan looked at the old man with a strong presence but whose eyes were filled with heartache when he looked at her. She smiled sweetly and said, “Hello, Grandpa!”
The old man looked at his granddaughter, who had finally returned. His eyes couldn’t help but moisten. The passage of time had carved lines on his face, but those wrinkles were now trembling slightly with excitement.
“Good! Good! Good child, you’ve suffered so much out there all these years!”
Seeing the old man’s concern for her, Mu Xiwan couldn’t help but feel a warmth in her heart. She continued to smile and said, “No, Grandpa. I’m fine. Don’t worry!” Mu Xiwan’s eyes were clear and bright, pure like autumn water, making people feel a surge of affection.
“Dad, let’s not stand outside. Let’s go inside,” Mu Hongtao said, worried that his daughter would be tired after shopping for an afternoon.
“Okay, okay. Let’s go inside,”
The old man said, and everyone walked towards the living room.
As soon as they entered the living room, Jiang Xingman saw all the things on the floor. She was surprised and said, “They delivered them so quickly? I thought we’d get home first.”
Mu Jinghao, who was standing beside her, heard Jiang Xingman’s words, and he instantly understood who had bought those things on the floor and to whom they were intended.
Mu Jinghao seemed to have thought of something. He instantly looked at Chu Yunxi. Just at that moment, Chu Yunxi perfectly displayed a look of disappointment and envy.
Mu Jinghan and Mu Jingyi also noticed Chu Yunxi’s disappointed expression. They couldn’t help but feel a little resentful. A flash of dissatisfaction crossed their eyes, as if they were standing up for Chu Yunxi.
Originally, Chu Yunxi was sent to the Mu family by Old Lady Chu, hoping that she would become the eldest uncle’s daughter, to comfort them for their loss.
But the eldest uncle and aunt had always refused to let Chu Yunxi be registered under their household, making Chu Yunxi’s status in the Mu family a little awkward.
Although the eldest uncle and aunt weren’t cold to Chu Yunxi, they hadn’t treated her with much enthusiasm either. Now, their biological daughter had returned. Look at all these clothes on the floor. Each one was priceless, each one represented the importance and love they had for Mu Xiwan.
Seeing Chu Yunxi’s disappointed expression, they all felt a little sorry for her and, at the same time, disliked their new sister. Her arrival made Chu Yunxi’s position in the family even more awkward.
In their hearts, Chu Yunxi was their companion who grew up with them, a familiar member of the family, while Mu Xiwan, to them, was a stranger who had suddenly entered their lives. So, their hearts couldn’t help but lean towards Chu Yunxi. Their eyes showed a detachment from Mu Xiwan and affection for Chu Yunxi, as if they were silently protesting the “injustice” done to Chu Yunxi by the Mu family.
Mu Jingchen looked at the things on the floor and said to Jiang Xingman, “Mom, have someone tidy these things up. Otherwise, there won’t be any space to walk.”
Chu Yunxi pursed her lips. She put on a docile expression and smiled, “Aunt, how about I let my sister have my walk-in closet? It’s very big and can fit all her clothes.” Her voice was soft, and her eyes were filled with flattery and carefulness, as if she was trying to show her generosity and kindness.
“Sister Chu Yunxi, why should you give up your walk-in closet? You’ve been using it for ten years!” Mu Jinghan looked at Sister Chu Yunxi, who was so generous, and grumbled with dissatisfaction. His eyes were full of anger and confusion, as if he felt that Mu Xiwan’s arrival had taken away what should have belonged to Chu Yunxi.
Mu Jingchen, hearing Mu Jinghan’s words, looked at Mu Jinghan and then at Chu Yunxi. His face was gloomy, and he said in a cold voice, “Wanwan is the real princess of the Mu family. How could we possibly let her live in your walk-in closet? Don’t forget, we’ve always kept her room for her.”
Mu Jingchen’s voice was cold, and his eyes held a hint of warning, as if he was warning them not to underestimate Mu Xiwan’s position.
Chu Yunxi looked at Mu Jingchen’s eyes. She instantly turned red and quickly explained, “No, Brother. I was thinking of giving up my walk-in closet so that Wanwan could put her clothes in it.” Her voice was tinged with a sob, her body trembling slightly, as if she had been greatly wronged.
Mu Jingchen, seeing Chu Yunxi like this, really couldn’t understand why Third Brother and the others liked Chu Yunxi so much. Even Second Brother, who was his own sibling, was very kind to this Chu Yunxi. A flash of disgust and helplessness crossed his eyes. He just found Chu Yunxi’s pretense annoying.
Mu Jingchen didn’t want to pay any more attention to Chu Yunxi. He was about to say something when he heard Jiang Xingman smiling and saying to Mu Xiwan, “Wanwan, Mom will take you to see your room later. It has a big walk-in closet!”
Jiang Xingman’s voice was filled with pride and anticipation. You see, before Wanwan was born, the family already knew she was a girl. They all agreed to give Wanwan the most spacious room in the house, with the biggest walk-in closet.
Mu Hongtao also saw Chu Yunxi’s little scheme, but as an elder, he couldn’t argue with a child. He was glad that his wife was clever and directly told everyone that Wanwan’s room was the best in the Mu family, with the biggest walk-in closet. He nodded slightly, a hint of approval flashing in his eyes.
He seemed to remember that Chu Yunxi had almost persuaded the old lady to let her have Wanwan’s room. At that time, he and his wife had firmly refused. Their daughter’s room was off-limits to anyone!
If it weren’t for the fact that Chu Yunxi could charm the old lady, he would have sent her back to the Chu family long ago, according to his temperament!
Jiang Xingman instructed the servants to take all the things in the living room to Mu Xiwan’s walk-in closet and asked them to put them away carefully.
Then, Mu Hongtao helped Mu Xiwan introduce her cousins. However, because of Chu Yunxi, her cousins were all a little cold towards Mu Xiwan. Mu Xiwan didn’t mind and treated them with the same indifference. Her eyes were calm and still, as if she had expected their attitude.
She had just sensed something different from these cousins, but she didn’t know what it was. However, since they weren’t very nice to her, she didn’t bother with them.
But after Mu Hongtao’s introduction, Mu Xiwan roughly knew which uncle’s children these cousins were, and she also figured out the order of the Mu family:
The old man of the Mu family had three sons. Her father, Mu Hongtao, was the eldest and took over the Mu family business. He and her mother, Jiang Xingman, had three children: Big Brother Mu Jingchen was in the army, Second Brother Mu Jingyu was a celebrity.
Second Uncle Mu Hongye was a soldier, and he and Second Aunt Ji Yuanxi had two children: Brother Mu Jingyi was currently interning at the Mu family company, and Brother Mu Jinghan was currently in his second year of high school.
Third Uncle Mu Hongsong was a politician, and he and Third Aunt Qin Yishang had two children: Brother Mu Jing was currently in his third year of university, and Mu Jinghao was currently in his first year of university.
———
Seeing his cousins being so cold towards his sister, Mu Jingchen thought that summer vacation was coming soon. The Mu family children would all go to the army for training during the summer vacation. He thought that he would have a good talk with their instructor during the summer vacation!
